What did people think of this? It had some awkward moments, but overall seems like a cool concept. So arrogant, that you announce and talk during your match. Also played into the mic spot on Moxley to win the match. I think it could be innovative, and Pac-Callis bitching at each other then during a match could work.
A top 5 all time spot for me is Magnum TA with the mic in Tully's face telling him to quit, and this felt spiritually in the same realm.

I was amused that Callis both ran out of things to say and that Tony/JR immediately called that out.
Its not a gimmick to be used frequently but it could be effective for Omega every once in a while.

I enjoyed it. It's such a dick move.
I would normally worry that it'd be kind of burying a guy, but three things:
1. Omega and Janela have wrestled a few times prior to this, anyway. Janela's not on Omega's tier, plain and simple, but Omega's been good about letting him get some of his stuff in, and in return, Joey always sells hard for him.
2. It helped the AEW commentators snap at Omega and Don in a way that furthered the promotional feud without them just shitting on Omega during the match and seeming pissy.
3. I don't imagine they're going to be doing this all the time. No way in hell Omega would take that kind of risk in the ring with Rey Fenix, he's not that insane.

Reminded me a little of the Rock in 1998 or 1999 when he would put the commentary headset on for a few seconds during matches.

I loved it because you can't hear commentary in the live audience. So it's not only effective heel heat for the television show, but also for the live crowd.

I thought it was good heel heat. I felt the whole story of how Kenny and Don didn't take Joey seriously but once Joey started to fight back Kenny went into killer mode was great

Lawler used to do commentary on his own matches during mid-90s WWF. Usually on secondary shows like Superstars.

I liked it and it made Kenny seem on a whole other level than Joey, but in a good way as he is the champ

There's a logical fault in this match.
1) it was booked as a no-DQ affair 2) this means that anyone can interfere. 3) Omega's pissed a whole bunch of the roster off with his shenanigans, plus groups like the Dark Order, Kingston's Family and the Inner Circle have got to look at Janela as a World Champion as an easier target. 4) so why didn't 90% of the roster come out and absolutely destroy Omega? Because it would end the angle.
They should have booked it as a normal match.

Like, you mean to tell me that a guy like Eddie Kingston wouldn't have just shanked Jon Moxley and then pinned him, if there were no potential criminal consequences? There are far more effective ways of keeping guys down in a fight with no rules than hitting them in the face with cookie sheets and thin metal trashcans, or doing highly choreographed jumps onto folding tables. Like the Irish whip, it's just one of those things you have to suspend your disbelief on, because wrestling isn't always logical.

I mean, yeah... But in this case, it's especially glaring because in the storyline, Omega's given a whole bunch of people a reason to really want the title off him. To book a match where they could easily make that a reality?
The AEW roster are kinda meh about the AEW title possibly ending up in another company.

By that logic, why didn’t Vince send the whole roster to beat up Punk after he won the title at MITB 2011 and THEN send Alberto to cash in and take the belt from him? Punk leaves the company with nothing, the belt stays in WWE and you don’t even need to fire Cena. Because that’s not what the story calls for right now.

MST3k Mantra my dude The end point of that route is nothing matters. Okay, and Marko Stunt could kick out of the OWA then serenade Kenny to make him freely hand over the belt, and that would be fine. We'd just laugh along. Internal consistency is very important, and glaring things like this hurt that. And it's so easily fixed: either don't book a no-DQ, Janela can do his garbage wrestling anyway, it's not like anyone's ever been DQd in a title match. Or just have a line on commentary, that Tony and Don have agreed that if anyone interferes in the match from either company, they'll be fired from their respective company. Simple. Maybe we'll get something in the Impact paid AEW advert.

How does it hurt internal consistency when other No DQ matches have been booked without the entire roster coming out to cheat the champion out of the title for an easier chance at the belt? And not just in AEW, but other companies including WWE, TNA, WCW, ECW, etc. have all had no DQ title matches without any of those things happening and it didn't hurt internal consistency with them either. This is just being pedantic.
