A big drop but also still was able to keep where it was in terms of demos which is pretty good considering.

Demo dropped from 0.45 to 0.32, more in line with the pre-Sting numbers. Viewership went from 995K to 806K.

I figured this would be coming with a lesser show this week. They kind of eased in to the Holiday Bash and New Years Smash nights. Can't blame them if they're gonna stack those nights full of action
Next weeks ratings will be interesting with AEW airing later and unopposed. Gonna be interesting how that effects the numbers. Late Night Dynamite did decent, but this will be a full special, heavily stacked Dynamite card, so I'm curious.

Not totally surprising. This show while enjoyable was not built as a big show and more focus was given to other acts to set things up

Not totally surprising. This show while enjoyable was not built as a big show and more focus was given to other acts to set things up And there are frankly just gonna have to be weeks that they do this. They gotta build their undercard, even if in some cases like the Acclaimed, a lot of peeps ain't sold on them yet Next weeks card is not only much more stacked with star power, but has less Tag Team Matches and a bunch of different match types, which is good because I saw people complaining about "Too many tag matches" on AEW's cards lately. Which is odd to me, kinda feels like NXT fans complaining about too many women's matches, it's their strongest depth and aspect... but hey, different balanced card next week, 2 tag, 3 singles, a trios.

I think they could have announced something bigger than they did last week to try to sustain the viewership bump but falling back down at some point was inevitable. Getting the ratings to go up will still be a months long process and they weren't going to shoot up 20% over night and sustain it for months. It was a bit lower than I expected but not by much. The bigger question will be the 12/30 and 1/6 shows. If they can have a 850K/.32 base for normal shows and a 950K/.4 for bigger shows, that can do them a lot of good.

It’s also Christmas Eve Eve, so that could factor into things, even with the Holidays being dramatically different due to Covid.

Deserved and expected drop. They basically had filler show. If they wanna do 900-1m viewer range and demos in .40s. They need to have big matches, hot angles, big promos or segments or big appearances. Otherwise extra viewers will turn off and just regular audience will watch.
They basically lost 100,000 -190,000 young viewers from the last two weeks. Who tuned in for big exciting shows. They didn't carry momentum long enough to keep those viewers long term. That's why I didn't like they had filler show last night like that. Totally killed momentum they had to grow ratings. Oh well TNT probably still happy being top 3 show for the night. But as a fan of AEW and wanting them to grow. The booking of this show and results it lead to. Are very disappointing.

That's the kind of shit that can burn a company out. With three special shows coming on the horizon, they had to take the foot off the gas just a little bit. But given what's been announced for the Holiday Bash and New Years Smash already, they're going to rebound. They have a whole roster they want to push and you gotta showcase the younger talent sometimes, at least until that second show comes to fruition especially. Should be fine.

Couldve had the Good Bros debut since its obvious they are gonna invade Dynamite but they are saving it for the 30th. Mox status is mia, either he will take a good hiatus until Rene gives birth or idk rumors say he went to Japan to work Wrestlekingdom.

If your gonna take foot off the gas you do it next week. When Dynamite is on tv late. Not this week when you are trying to keep the momentum. Plus it's not like they had to make this show that crazy to keep viewers. Having few better match ups and some good in ring segments or good storyline progression. Cody/Angelico, Hardy&Private Party vs Page,Silver&Reynolds, Inner Circle twelve man tag and Omega/Janela is filler that combined is going to cause to many viewers you gained last week not return. Especially feuds and story progression went nowhere last night. People tuned in to see Sting do more then point baseball bat at Team Tazz. You had Kingston, Butcher,Blade and Archer, Pac, Lucha Bros was same stuff. Look I have no problem showcasing Acclaimed and Top Flight. But you can do that stuff and still have hotter show. For example give Cody and Omega more high profile matches rather then facing job guys in one-sided matches. Give us little more back story on what Sting doing. Heck have him in multiple segments. Have Kingston,Butcher, Blade brawl with Archer, Lucha Bros and Pac returning back stage or in parking lot etc. Something little more difference then brawl around ring again. I'm just saying the combo of the matches and segments they choose to do. Just made it feel like filler show. Which clearly caused them to lose viewers this week. You don't have to have foot on the gas to do that. Couple more interesting matches and hot segment or two. Mixed in everything else they did would have been fine.

Just do better match ups, more with Sting and something more fresh with Kingston storyline and they likely don't lose nearly as many young viewers. As for Mox, Renee not due to like June. So that's not why Mox isn't being on the show. It's possible he could be doing Wrestle Kingdom. But Meltzer and Tony Khan both said he wasnt. My guess is they are keeping him off tv. Since they plan to do Mox/Omega rematch at Revolution. But want Omega to do other things for next few weeks. And it doesn't make sense for Mox to be there unless he was going after Omega. That said they should explain why he's not there. It's easy to say Moxley not cleared to be at the show. Because or concussion he suffered due to mic to head and all V-tiggers he took.

Still #3 for the night even with the drops in numbers. The drop also makes sense with a lot of the Sting and Kenny Omega hype calming down.

We need to stop acting like AEW will never see these viewers again, they clearly will, it's just as you said a week where they took their time. They have three big shows coming, one with a special guest in Snoop Dogg, and anything announced will bring the numbers up even further Some shows are just gonna be like this, it happens. I didn't think it was a bad show either, it was good wrestling and I thought it was fine development, but to each their own.

I will again remind everyone, the ratings were lower, but they were still #1 in 18-49 Males. So like, we can talk about this and that, but last week they were MORE #1 in Males 18-49, and this week they're less #1 in Males 18-49, but they are still #1 in Males in 18-49. They will always be hovering towards the top. Advertising on television is a multi trillion dollar industry. When advertisers look at numbers, they see #1 on Dec 10, and they see #1 on Dec 17, they don't go "Well Sting... Shaq...150k less....". They see #1 and that' it. When TNT puts together it's advertising prices, they don't go "#1 by this much on Dec 10, and #1 by that much on Dec 17."
I guess it's ok to discuss what could have made the audience bigger, smaller, but #1 is still #1. #3 overall is still #3, out of what, 250? 300?
