What was your favorite version of A Christmas Carol?
For me with would be Mickey's Christmas Carol with The Muppets a very close second.

The Muppet Christmas Carol is not just the best adaptation of A Christmas Carol, it’s the best adaptation of any Dickens novel. (With the possible exception of Armando Ianucci’s recent take on David Copperfield).

Scrooged is pretty nuts, but it remains one of my favorite versions.
As far as straight adaptations, Patrick Stewart's 1999 version isn't too bad.

The 1951 version with Alasdair Sim as Scrooge.

Sim's performance captures the true crux of Ebenezer Scrooge. That he was never an evil man, he was an emotionally closed off man because he had suffered great loss in his life.
MCC is a piece of joy with great jokes (It's the American way. .... It's the British way) & songs. Plus for being the first Muppet project with out Jim Henson, or Richard Hunt for that matter, they knocked it out of the park.
Scripted, after a Twitter conversation, is movie of choice tonight. Haven't seen it in a few years so I'm looking forward to it.

Sim's performance captures the true crux of Ebenezer Scrooge. That he was never an evil man, he was an emotionally closed off man because he had suffered great loss in his life. There's many great adaptations of this story, but as far as pure emotion and storytelling, there's a reason the Sim version is still so popular almost 70 years later. I don't think any other version captures Scrooge's humanity as well as this one does. It's so well done that you could actually imagine him as a real person that existed, instead of just a character in a story.

Part of is that its fairly dark as far as Christmas Carol adaptations go and Murray's performance as Frank Cross is very much a love or it hate characterization. I love him being so very over the top as an asshole and a bit crazy in the second half, but I can understand why others would be turned off. The reason I do it works is Karen Allen's more grounded acting works as a balance and she exudes such genuine warmth that the core relationship allows the film some sense of reality to it.

I've said it before on here but I love his ending monologue, talking about what a good feeling Christmas can be. "And you'll start to get greedy for it! You'll want it EVERY DAY OF YOUR LIFE!"

Oh, dear! This high infant-mortality rate is a real devil when it comes to staging quality children’s theater.

I still need to watch Muppet Christmas Carol. However, I did like the 2009 animated one with Jim Carrey.
As for other versions, if TV movies count, I would say Ebbie (with Susan Lucci) and A Diva's Christmas Carol (with Vanessa L. Williams).

Muppets, hands down.
Even today it holds up surprisingly well as both a movie and an adaptation of the story.
Also far and away the best adaptation of the ghosts. Ghost of Christmas Future justifiably gets a ton of respect but Christmas Past is also both kind of terrifying and hauntingly beautiful in the presentation.
Then there's Michael Caine as Scrooge.
Damn, I generally hate Christmas movies and I might go watch it right now.
