At Survivor Series, The Street Profits were said by commentary to "have a great future ahead of them" and that "Montez Ford might be as good as Kofi Kingston in a few years". If the Street Profits are the f***ing tag team champions, doesn't that make them "now"? They aren't the future of WWE, they are the present of WWE. Why not sell us on the fact that that Montez Ford "may be just as good as Kofi Kingston"?
They also keep calling Rhea Ripley the future of the women's division. This despite the fact that she has been there for years, has had classic matches, is a former NXT Women's Champion, and even defended that title against the Royal Rumble winner at Wrestlemania. Again, why isn't she the present?
Everyone in WWE is either a legend or "the future" or a "future Hall Of Famer". They constantly sell us on the fact that their roster did great things in the past or will do great things in the future. Why isn't the current roster sold on how great they are right f***ing now?

Because in reality, almost no one ever is, because they're so desperate to make the next stars but because of who is in charge and how quickly his whims change, they can't.

It's what happens when a promotion refuses to take the risk of actually making somebody the present.
See: TNA of the late 00's where AJ Styles was perennially "the future" and never the present.

No one is over enough right now to be a star. They will not pull the trigger on really pushing anyone so everyone is just "the future". The only stars left are from the past.

Because the present is whatever old guys they can get. It's pretty damning, but the present is the past.

I mean, the answer was right there over 20 years ago; weren't you watching the commercials during Nitro and Raw back in the day?

With threads like this, you are undoubtedly the future of this board! I've been here for over a decade and have over 18,000 posts. So yes, by WWE logic I am the future of this board, lol.

Despite being a multi time Triple Crown and First Ever Grand Slam he was still being called that when he finally left

Because they'll be chewed up by the WWE machine in their first run, spat out and will spend years rebuilding themselves in the indies, AEW, Impact or New Japan. Once other companies have proven they have value, then they'll get a second chance and a relatively stable push, like Drew.

Once upon a time, the future of the WWF were Tekno Team 2000, and just look at them now.

I feel like saying "the future of WWE" to everyone is like Cole going "WE MIGHT HAVE A NEW CHAMPION NO HE KICKED OUT!" Another phrase that's been overused and has lost its meaning.
