I am sort of on two minds about Eugene. I've probably said this before but I'm Autistic, diagnosed at the age of 5 and for a time, I was sort of a typical version of Autistic except wilder or at the very least, not great with boundaries. My mum, having run an Autism support group for parents for years along with being my parent (duh), was offended from the off and in a way, I couldn't blame her. It wasn't the worst direction they could have gone but it also...well, it didn't come off the best at times, giving the more mainstream representation of Autism than the nuanced, diverse approach that we're more seeing now (less in media but more from actual public figures on the spectrum). Also, it had HHH burying him to take his heat which is a tremendous amount of dickery from him for many reasons. On the other hand, as Zane did say in his review, that was representation you didn't see at the time and there were people on the spectrum who did appreciate that. Hell, it's hard to get that these days with Atypical and The Good Doctor being our only mainstream version and Sia demonstrating earlier this year she had zero interest in actually listening to those on the spectrum for help (and while I'm here, F*** Autism Speaks). I'm conflicted about whether someone not Autistic can comfortably play someone who isn't and it's absolutely not the same as race and sexuality (in some cases, I heard the argument for both sides from across the LGBTQ community) but what I will say is that there are probably Autistic actors working who'd be willing to give the role a shot. Autistic wrestlers...well, I'm training myself and plan to go back into it when they're able to but...well, I wouldn't want to typecast myself. I sort of agree with someone else who said that Dinsmore should have been allowed to show off his technical skills more because, from my experience, one key thing a lot of people on the spectrum have is memory and an ability to see things that others can't. So if he was able to get out of holds and put others on like a pro, it'd probably be a "better" way of doing it than just a guy who wants to hit a Stunner in a match. I absolutely never want to see them try it again, though, and I am also forever grateful Vince Russo wasn't around when it happened.

I thought early Bayley was meant to be a bit special, but who knows.

It's always a good sign when a discussion about a potentially offensive topic begins with not giving a toss about being tasteless. I'm sure disadvantaged people felt the same way at the time and loved having an easy figure to be compared to in a mocking way.
