Do they still have the rights for Wizard of Oz? Because if they do you know Disney is gonna be all over this.

(anything MGM pre-1985 = belongs to WB) Oz I think is public domain, which is how there can be multiple adaptions/films and shows inspired by the stories. One of which, as you recall, was a Disney version.

Damn it, I cannot stand the fact that any time one of these companies goes up for sale, the only beings rich enough to buy are the even bigger, more gross conglomerates.

I'm assuming that WB deal then also includes Tom and Jerry and the other old MGM cartoons? Hmm, without them I'm struggling to think of other IP's that Disney might be interested in. I don't know if they'd find a buy out of MGM worth it.

Death, Taxes and MGM looking to sell.
The three constants of life.

And on the point of whose buying, I can’t see a scenario of Disney doing it because they’re still reeling from the 20th Century Fox purchase and figuring out what to do with things there so honestly, since they already own most of the stuff MGM made or brought it at points, I can see Warners buying it and adding the content to HBO Plus.
Hell, if they can get the Bond movie on there day and date, that’s be a pretty big coup.

I wonder if Apple comes calling to boost their streaming service. I definitely see Apple and Amazon making a play. Being the exclusive streaming home for James Bond and Rocky is a decent get, but I don’t know about that price tag EDIT: And as eJm said, WB has definitely got to be interested

All this said, don't you think WB should make a play at it? Just to unify the library?

I don't know if they'd find a buy out of MGM worth it. I don't see Disney going for it. They'll likely put in a bid but they're still figuring out the Fox purchase and recouping costs from that. MGM doesn't have the rights to random Marvel properties or Star Wars either which was one of the big proponents of getting Fox. Any of the owners of the streaming services AT&T, Apple, or Amazon are all good guesses as to the top bidders. Could see Comcast making a play as well.

Could see Comcast making a play as well. Comcast have been involved in so many bids for things, I’m surprised they weren’t involved in the bidding for Codemasters. And there’s zero reason for them to buy Codemasters.
