No, Warner Bros. has the rights to the musical version from 1939. (anything MGM pre-1985 = belongs to WB) Oz I think is public domain, which is how there can be multiple adaptions/films and shows inspired by the stories. One of which, as you recall, was a Disney version. Anything MGM (That isn't made by United Artists) pre-1986 belongs to WB Really? Because the whole MGM/UA thing in the early '80s.

Could see Comcast making a play as well. Comcast have been involved in so many bids for things, I’m surprised they weren’t involved in the bidding for Codemasters. And there’s zero reason for them to buy Codemasters. Comcast also makes sense considering Universal has been production partners with MGM lately including the new Bond

And on the point of whose buying, I can’t see a scenario of Disney doing it because they’re still reeling from the 20th Century Fox purchase and figuring out what to do with things there so honestly, since they already own most of the stuff MGM made or brought it at points, I can see Warners buying it and adding the content to HBO Plus. Plus as I understand it Disney have essentially been told any attempt to make further major acquisitions are unlikely to be given clearance by a number or markets they operate in. They had to sell off a good chunk of their assets acquired in the Fox deal before that got cleared, and I can't see anything they could pick up from MGM now that they'd value enough to sell off something they currently own.

It was mostly local news and sports stations and I believe Fox’s stake in BSkyB that they had to get rid of before the purchase can go through and like you said, MGM doesn’t exactly have anything that can be sold off to make it go through along those lines that would allow it to go through.

I can't see Disney buying MGM purely because of the number of people who would cry foul at their dominance of the media landscape. Without their classic library it's not worth the fight.

Disney should buy it and have a movie where Bond works with Marvel superheroes as part of a joint MI-6/Avengers operation. Q will build gadgets for Bond to allow him to hang with superpowered beings in a useful way and its revealed that Drax's space station has been rebuilt using Stark Industries technology and is now under British jurisdiction.
