LANGUAGE WARNING
So HBomberGuy finally released a video and it's about just how amazing New Vegas is and just how great the world building is.

Dunno why so few people realize that a REBUILT post-apocalyptic world makes better stories than one still in the process of rebuilding. No matter how far away we are from the bombs dropping, Bethesda's going to keep giving us a mostly ruined world, and it's never gonna be interesting. New Vegas gets it right.
It really is masterful. They were confident enough in their writing to be like, "Okay, how do we make this party member's side quest?" and the answer was "Let's just cast Danny Trejo and give him a bunch of monologues and that'll be it."

Probably one of the few games I am interested of always playing. Instead of just dropping the gamepad on the floor.

Yes... but at least Fallout 4 with all it's DLC is still playable.
Don't get me wrong, I love New Vegas, but my PS3 Copy of the game is flat out broken, it lags to a continental shift pacing when I do in half the locations once I got through 3 of the 4 DLC.

The Old World Blues DLC for New Vegas is my favorite piece of Fallout content.
“A toaster is just a death ray with a smaller power supply!”
"Have you ever tried to indulge an all-consuming urge to kill when you don't have opposable thumbs? Or hands? Or anything other than a bread slot? You'd have a lot of pent-up anger too!"
"KEEP YOUR FILTHY PENIS-TIPPED FEET OUT OF OUR LABS AND SECRETS!"

My only disappointment was New Vegas the location.
All that build and there wasnt much to do there. Like, each casino just had the same 3 games. Think was blackhack, roulette and bandits. Should have had more

New Vegas was the one Fallout game (post/3) that I couldn’t get into. I played more Fallout76 than New Vegas.

That was a great video. I remember liking New Vegas a lot more than Fallout 3, which are the only two Fallout games I've ever played.
I think I'll fire up the ol 360 and revisit New Vegas.

IMO it's the absolute best Fallout game. While I enjoyed it, Fallout 4 felt like a huge step backwards in terms of the world building. Felt like a dull retread of NV with fewer interesting factions and I find the retconning of the East coast Brotherhood of Steel to be a huge letdown.

Back when I first played it, I bounced off the more linear quest, very 360/PS3 era dull brown tint to everything in the early areas, and whole western aesthetic once or twice. But once I got properly into it, I became addicted and there are so many genius ideas the deeper you go into the world, and this video makes me appreciate how natural it makes that exploration feel. Balancing the factions and deciding who you want to court is really fun and different every time (though I'll never have a party without Veronica). The more immediate start to the game is also a big help for replays, and being able to roleplay in my head the different origins the courier might have, rather than the more fixed character of Fallout 3.
DLC wise, Old World Blues was the best of the bunch with a marvellous sense of humour that gave me big H2G2/Red Dwarf vibes, and finally reaching the Divide and the confrontation with Ulysses in Lonesome Road was amazing. On the other hand, I can't remember like 90% of Honest Hearts, and Dead Money still makes me rage at whichever dev thought that radio-collar mechanic made things more interesting rather than a frustrating monotonous slog.

It was great when it actually worked. Still prefer Fallout 3. Both are way better than 4 (which I still enjoyed).

It's one of my favorite games to play. Especially with mods which actually let me play it.

Bethesda would do a lot to restore my good will by re-releasing an updated version of the game for modern consoles like they did with Skyrim.

New Vegas had some of the ballsiest moves by actually allowing you to talk your way out of combat at times. Like, being rewarded for being a social character made the bard in me so happy. Easily the best Fallout for me, though I did get HEAVILY addicted to building my vault in Fallout 4. Some of the most memorable content in an open world game to date. Damn, now I need to redownload it on PC and heavily mod it again.

I first encountered that in Deus Ex, and assumed it was a pretty widespread feature in RPG type games. Is it actually pretty rare and novel?

Started playing it on Gamepass and quit after awhile because the missions all seemed ridiculously long and just kept stacking up.
Like the junkie in New Vegas who needs 20 anti-addiction packs with no clear instructions on how to get those. Even online guides just have suggestions about "well, you might find a few here....". If I'm trying to complete the mission and get XP, I don't think I should have to be wondering about how I'm going to finish it or delaying it for hours in the hopes I'll eventually have enough items to finish.
I think Fallout 4 hit a decent balance of challenge and also being able to finish stuff fast enough to keep the game moving.
