www.youtube.com/watch?v=96kxx0pd3-kThis week’s episode has Brian Zane talking about WWE’s mid-2010s retread of the Corporation and McMahon-Helmsley Regime all rolled into one package. (Posted here since it’s about a WWE thing from the last decade) Mod edit: Also, tad bit of a language warning. Nothing too consistent but has to be said - eJm

I admit I didn't watch the video yet but can someone answer a question for me?
I remember that Survivor Series match where Ziggler defeated the Authority and put them out of power, but then the next time I watched a couple weeks later the Authority was still in charge. What was the kayfabe explanation?

This was around the time I finally gave up on Raw and this brought back some awful memories. As usual, he was spot on the entire video.

Just because he had a rivalry with Edge doesn’t mean he should want the man dead just so his evil bosses stay fired. What’s the worst they could do to him, fire him? Last time that happened he kept showing up anyway.

So basically it didn't make sense. Which, ironically, makes sense for modern WWE.

HHH not turning corporate heel on Punk in 2011, only to do it in 2013 when it made less sense to do so remains absolutely insane to me. That whole thing was a mess. The only good part was Survivor Series 2014 and they ended up messing that up afterwards.

Man, how did Big Show squander that iron clad contract?

Yeah, the duck was the kayfabe goal of the authority? Like, I know “best for business” but this was a story defined by vagueness and excess

The Authority was good idea on paper but with horrible execution
HHH picking one his biggest nemesis as The Man of the company and doing "what's best for business". You add in a few more people, dress them up in suits like they did Kane and you have intriguing group. Seth as young future that HHH wants to replace Orton also has legs
However, what we got was HHH and Steph undermining and bitching out their champs. The best thing about The Authority was like the first two weeks when Randy was coming out saying i'm The Man and putting on good matches with people like Goldust. Randy ended up being made to a bitch and Seth was an even bigger hoe to HHH and Steph to the point they even brought back Brock because Seth needed an ass whooping

Remember when Seth Rollins turned face because Triple H and Stephanie decided to cheat for someone else and not him?

Remember when Seth Rollins turned face because Triple H and Stephanie decided to cheat for someone else and not him? And then HHH spent weeks not saying why he turned on Seth in the first place and then it was revealed he did it because he hurt himself? Outside of that one NXT segment, that whole thing made both guys look like total goobers.

It was a lot of effort to go to in order to tell fans to shut up and their opinions don't matter. Good job there were no long term repercussions from building an angle around the company saying outright they do not care about the enjoyment of their paying audience.

The booking is just so scattered and covoluted. How many branches did that story have? It’s almost impossible not to get lost in those woods. And even when they did stumble upon something that worked, it was almost immediately squandered.

Stephanie was pretty awful in this angle. She got one over on just about everyone again and again. All to set herself up as the heel in the potential big deal celebrity match they were trying to get off the ground with Rousey.
Not good. Not fun to watch either.
And I was there for H’s Rumble win so I didn’t hear the commentary actually putting him over. Oh goodness.

Ah...the angle (along with the Reigns push) that finally rid weekly WWE watching from my life

I'll never get Owens being their chosen one, even as a puppet. After all that best for business, face of WWE, b+ player bs thats who they pick?
That rumble with the local men dumping everyone out was another low.
