I still think Bray should of beaten cena at mania. I think Bray ended up fine, he eventually did beat Cena at mania (and possibly retired him) as well as using his past failures for his current gimmick that's just it he ended up fine when he could of been made great. It's nice he may have retired cena years later but had they pulled the trigger when he was that hot he could of been huge. Beat cena at one mania then taker at the next .

Far too often with the WWE, it's not so much failing to pull the trigger, but realising someone has gotten too over then either trying to transfer their heat to someone else or flat out stomping them on camera until the fans turn on them. 'Boy, that Zac Ryder sure sucks and is whiny after the WWE kneecapped him on camera for getting over then used his ideas like they were their own.'

Lex Luger at SummerSlam 93. If it didn't work out they could've put the belt back on Yokozuna, so Bret can win it at WrestleMania.

Thinking of The Nexus and how over Wade Barrett was as a main eventer. I get the 'old guard' in the WWE thinking Wade was too new to win the title and Metlzer reported that too many of them told Vince not to give him the title. The issue is, Wade never came close to getting that over again. If he was given the title at that time, the entire perception would have likely changed and everyone would have seen him as a main eventer. Pointless WWE politics killed his momentum More instances? It happened to Barrett again in 2014. He was getting over with the Bad News gimmick and got a massive pop when he returned from injury at the end of the year. The natural thing to do was to turn him face and push him. Instead they kept him heel, stripped him of everything that got him over and eventually saddled him with the repeatedly failed King gimmick. This understandably broke his spirit and made him leave the company.

Barrett didn’t get the belt during the Nexus run because he was pretty awful in-ring Never stopped then before or after Yup. Let’s be honest. That’s one reason why but not the biggest. They’ve put the belt on plenty of trash in ring performers before and all he had to do was get squashed in the money match. No one was paying money to see Cena and Barrett put on a 5 star clinic...they were gonna pay to see Cena destroy that cocky bastard. The real reasons were they had a MITB case to cash in and this was before their huge devaluation of the gimmick...and the only thing that mattered was Cena vs Rock. Barrett took a backseat to Rock.

Also add to the list: Ambrose, both post-shield and heel turn Heel turn Dean was notable in being the straw that broke the camel’s back and solidified Moxley’s decision to just leave for greener pastures.

Here’s the difference between Barrett being champion and someone like Khali being champion. Khali only got the belt due to injuries and it being Smackdown. Barrett as champion would be in THE main event of PPVs and he was barely pulling off midcard squashes without Cena carrying him. They had other better options and even with how over the Nexus was, they had better options to not torpedo the last thing on the shows

I remember a segment on Raw in late 2009 where they teased Ted DiBiase Jr. breaking away from Legacy in a match with Orton. The crowd was into it . . . and then nothing ever came of it and Orton turned face instead.

Cesaro. Multiple times. Too bad he's so Swiss. After he won the ATG battle royal, he was mega over. So they re-do his character and take away his music. Has any face ever gotten over to the 'no music' gimmick?

I’ll go with Alex Riley, on top of the others that were already mentioned.
Yes, guy wasn’t much of a wrestler nor was he A+ on the microphone, but damn it, dude was over long after breaking away from The Miz. It easily could’ve parlayed him into a midcard/upper midcard babyface spot, but no. Sent down to NXT, then to color commentator and by the time he did get back into the ring, he looked like a HHH circa-late 99 rip-off with no heat whatsoever.
Jeers all around, particularly if it was Cena who was main factor behind killing his push.

Even though I’m not really fan of his at the moment, I have to say Ambrose. They sent him away to film a movie when he was red hot after the Shield broke up & I always thought they did that so he wouldn’t take the attention off their new golden boy Roman. More recently I would say Elias, they messed up his initial baby face turn & then sent him to Smackdown to be a lackey for a Shane. I know he isn’t the greatest in the ring, but he’s decent & has tons of charisma.

'Boy, that Zac Ryder sure sucks and is whiny after the WWE kneecapped him on camera for getting over then used his ideas like they were their own.' I remember people also justifying it by saying Ryder stunk up the joint during a promo with Bryan and Punk. So f***ing what? He may not have been on that guys' level, but it's better for the fans when the midcard also has over acts.

Probably been mentioned, but Ryback vs Punk.
WWE had their eyes too set on Punk vs Rock when Ryback was hugely over. The fans were clamoring for him to get the belt. I think it's lost money, he was huge at the same time. Punk sv Rock would have sold even without the title, so giving it to Ryback would have made a new star and they'd have still had their main event.

Barrett didn’t get the belt during the Nexus run because he was pretty awful in-ring To be fair, WWE did their usual new "big guy" thing and limited his moveset to just punches. It seems to happen a lot, or seemed too. A big guy when pushed would use a slow, plodding methodical style and then become decent and actually be allowed to use moves once WWE had lost interest---- See Paul Burchill when he became a jobber on ECW and was actually allowed to pull off brainbusters, pele kicks, suicide dives, suplex etc. Wade had the same thing to a lesser degree, where as soon as the big push was over WWE decided to give him an actual moveset.

I'll go more recent: Aleister Black Dude literally was the next Undertaker type of wrestler, giftwrapped with a silver bow on top, and they stomped on it repeatedly. I know he's still there but I don't see him ever being used right again after the shit I've seen them do to him. God, not only did they drop the ball in every possible fashion with him, but they did his wife dirty too. I can't imagine he'll be around once the contract's up if he stays on this current trajectory, and I'm sure AEW would love to have him.

I wonder how many tag teams we could do this with in recent memory... I'll just go with three four off the top of my head.
-Heavy Machinery -Enzo & Cass -Riott Squad -Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville
