Playstation 5 hardly an original name now, and Microsoft's latest Xbox hasn't varied much. At least Nintendo does change theirs (ok there's wii U and 3DS which didn't change much from its predessor) but Switch isn't that cool a name.
Sega kinda got it right with names like megadrive, Genesis, Saturn and dreamcast. Cool names indeed.
Nintendo did ok, think gamecube was their best name. Although was Dolphin a prototype name of theirs or was that Sega's?
Any other cool console names?

Consoles don't need cool names. Sony has it right with the standard numbering.

I like Nintenso having names that symbolizes what their console.is about like Gameboy ,DS ,Switch. They are creative names that show what they are about
Ps is fine,it is not good.or bad,it gets the job done.
Xbox is just a mess

I don't mind Sony just doing numbers. It's simple and easy to remember. The only weird names I think Nintendo has done is the Wii and Wii U. Everything else they have has been in the name of what the system is about.

Video Games are like 80% of my freetime and it even took me a couple weeks before I figured out that Xbox One X and Xbox Series X were two separate things. I figured people were using the words One/Series interchangeably and were referring to the same console. I feel sorry for any parent that bought the wrong thing for their kid and had no clue why.
Playstation might be boring, but there is no mistaking what you are getting.
Nintendo made a mistake with the Wii/Wii U, but otherwise their marketing and word usage works.

Nothing will ever beat "Sega Mega Drive" in terms of coolness.
XBox sounds like a porn website.

Took me a while to get used to calling it the N64 instead of NU64

Fun fact: Nintendo product catalog numbers usually have the abbreviations for the codename in the first couple of letters.
DS - NTR (Nitro) Wii - RVL (Revolution) Gamecube - DOL (Dolphin) Wii U - WUP (Wii U Project Cafe) Switch - HAC (One of two codenames along with NX) Game Boy Advance - AGB (Advanced Game Boy) 3DS - CTR (Citra) Nintendo 64 - NUS (Nintendo Ultra Sixtyfour)

It's weird Nintendo is the family company but has the kinkiest names.

Everything else they have has been in the name of what the system is about. Everyone thought the Wii U was an add on to the Wii. It was a big mistake. Nintendo's problem with Wii U (and to a lesser extent, Wii) is the names make sense if you listen to their reasoning behind calling them what they did. It's just that they put way, way too much thought into the naming of a game console and pretty much nobody actually buying a game console really wants to listen to what the explanation is. Switch was much better because it's both a good name and references the gimmick.
