Yeah, other Rumbles have had worse moments or bad endings, but this match takes the cake. There were extended times when there were nobody in the ring (or just one person), the roster was essentially JTTSs (Golga, Kurrgan, Tiger Ali Singh) with a few top-tier guys thrown in, and the two guys who the match was built around, Austin and McMahon, spent most of their time outside the ring. Even in 1999 I found this to be awful, and I doubt it improved with age.

It's pretty damn bad but at least it's an interesting kind of bad, as opposed to 2006 where the whole thing is just Triple H and Mysterio napping.
I also absolutely hated this year's men's one but that one has its defenders.

1995 is pretty damn bad too. Quite possibly the worst line up of all time, the 60 second intervals gives absolutely nothing time to breathe, two of the biggest heels in the match in Owen and Backlund are eliminated within a minute to push the story with Bret (when they should have been positioned as viable threats to Shawn and Bulldog), and the shorter run time undercuts the story of Shawn and Bulldog going the distance.

The 1999 match at least revolved around a storyline and had decent midcarders and acts who were at least somewhat over with the fans. Outside of Austin and McMahon, you had DX, the Corporation, Jeff Jarrett, Owen Hart, DLo, Mark Henry, Val Venis, Al Snow and Edge.

88 is worse but it gets a pass because it was the first (kayfabe) Rumble and they didn’t really know how to book it to tell a story and factor in the crowd reaction.

I'd argue 2015 was worse. The match revolved solely around Roman Reigns(someone who nobody wanted to win), and those who the fans did want(Daniel Bryan, Dean Ambrose, Dolph Ziggler) got eliminated in quick fashion. The 99 Rumble was bad, no doubt about it, but the 2015 came off as a deliberate F-U for daring to get behind anyone who wasn't a company favorite.

I think it was either during the 2000 rumble or on an episode of Heat leading up to it but I have a vague memory the commentators themselves were running down 1999 like actually saying ut was not a great a show and talking about how 2000 was going to make up for it.

Probably the worst ones are tied between 1999 and 2015. Every other bad one still had something to like.
I for one am not a fan of 2010 as a match. Quick eliminations, ring always empty and short of guys. But you had Edge's return, CM Punk's run, and HBK's story that help eliminate the bad taste. 1995 had Shawn going the distance which wasn't done at the time, so that was cool despite the jobber roster and quick intervals. 2020 was a horrid first half, but cool for the second one.

Memory's kinda spotty about the whole match (especially how it ends) but I feel like 2012 was sort of a mess with the weird mix of "irregulars" and fairly lackluster midcarders filling up the match. Sheamus was doing well at the time, IIRC, but his involvement made it seem like he was the obvious winner........at a time when maybe they shoulda booked a few bigger names in there for him to conquer.
1995 was a loveable disaster which I feel like defending. That time interval rushes it all, but there's always something happening at least which a lot of Rumbles fail at.
2006 was a weird one, which is when I first realized people would just lay around most of the time instead of being booked better. And it was booked in such a way where like half the roster of the match was there at the end. Echoes of 1994 there, except I was at '94 so I technically can't hate on that one much.

I enjoy all of them to a degree, but 2015 felt the most like they were giving a giant middle finger to the audience.

I was so done with McMahon vs. Austin at that point. That they took Over my favorite match of the year for their never ending story line.
I’m a huge storyline over wrestling match guy but this was to much

2002 could be considered a big disappointment, if not bad.
It was the first Rumble since the InVasion, and with the influx of new talent, you had a STACKED roster. But they never allowed the ring to fill up; the highest it got was I want to say 6 people.

1999 was awful. 2016 with Roman's nap may have been worse.

In a vacuum in terms of pure match quality, absolutely. If you throw in booking choices into the mix, it's still up there but you got some other contenders as well.

Yes. Yes it is. Having minutes of dead air for a f***ing Royal Rumble match is pretty damn unforgivable to be quite frank.
2015 comes close but at least stuff happens.

Personally for me no I think 95, 2012 & 2015 are worse. 95 and 12 for being jobberific and 2015 for WWE being tone deaf.

If we're talking about it as an actual match, yeah, it's probably the worst to me. Arguably, it wasn't especially trying to be a match, though whether or not that changes how it is reckoned is going to depend on the person.
