137. Train to Busan Presents: Peninsula - Watched this on Blu Ray. I had read that this was different from the other two films. It was said that this was more action than horror, and that the zombie outbreak was more of an aesthetic this time around as opposed to being a part of the plot. With that being said, this movie is actually entertaining if you don't compare it to Train to Busan or Seoul Station.
Although there were some grim bits that hit the feels in some scenes, it wasn't as much as the other two films. There were some nice shootouts and car chases (although one was a bit ridiculous). Also, the scenario reminded me a lot of Army of the Dead, even though this one came out a year before that one. Some bits even reminded me of Mad Max mixed with The Last of Us, as well as Resident Evil: Extinction with the whole post-apocalyptic theme going for it as it was only a few years after the events of Train to Busan. The RE: Extinction comparison comes from the fact that it was only a few years after RE: Apocalypse.
It was entertaining, but don't go in expecting the nature from the previous two films.

84. Stardust
I haven’t seen this in about ten years and figured I’d give it another shot. The first time I watched it left me mildly annoyed. This time I figured out why. Shlubby, needy pathetic Tristan is not a very likable character and he stays in that mode for half the movie. Yvaine spends the first half of the movie being whiny and argumentative. How can I like a movie when I don’t like the main characters? The answer is the great supporting characters. Michelle Pfeiffer and Mark Strong are delightful as the villains and Robert Deniro throws himself 1000% into playing Captain Shakespeare. Basically I dislike the first half of the movie and love the second half.

199. Slaughter High* *Tubi* Their were three glaring problems I had with this movie. One was the pacing. It took almost 45 minutes for the killings to start, which I could have been used to build the characters a lot better than they did. And once the killings did start they were pretty rapid fire. The second was they kinda parodied Friday the 13th a little bit in the first half, but once things started getting tense they had music that was really similar to Friday the 13ths, but even worse a “cha-cha-cha-cha” sound that was just different enough to avoid lawsuits. The third was I had to see the ad for that shitty Ghostbusters reboot three times, but that was Tubis problem not the movies. What I did like was this “clone” was A LOT gorier than any of the Friday the 13ths, except maybe the directors cut versions (which I’m truthfully not sure if I’ve seen or not). There were some wicked kills up in this one, especially the two people having sex and the girl gets electrocuted and the shock passes on to the guy via…you know…his wang. Plus death by poop AND the toilet of blood! I had a bad feeling it was going to end like that movie April Fools Day (which is an ending I hated), since this movie took place on April Fools, was originally going to be called “April Fools Day” (until a different studio released the other one earlier in the year) and it just looked to be going that way. It kinda did but it kinda didn’t. But it at least ended up being a fun one.

This is interesting since it didn't follow a typical movie storyline or plot points. It was just a stressful day in the life of a Jewish woman who is going through a lot and dealing with pressure from every angle. It's stressful just to watch but captivating throughout. [***½]

85. The Mask of Zorro
Antonio Banderas is an excellent Zorro. The story is good and is not overly anachronistic. Raphael and Captain Love are wonderful villains. The sword fights are action packed and believable. And then they throw in Anthony Hopkins and Catherine Zeta-Jones as the least believable Spaniards since Sean Connery in Highlander.

138. Jungle Cruise - Watched it on Disney+. Although I would have preferred to watch it in theaters, my sister invited me and my parents over for dinner and a movie, but we watched it in her backyard, where my brother-in-law set up a projector and the app so that we could watch it on a screen.
I personally enjoyed this movie. The Rock is always entertaining. I know some people are ragging on this film, but I had a lot of fun with it. Hell, The Rock and Emily Blunt played well off each other. I laughed at some of the jokes, especially when it was making reference to the ride at Disneyland.
I might even give it another watch, except this time it will be in theaters.

86. A Quiet Place
Sssshhhhhhhh! The big bad monsters hunt by sound. Well acted and directed. They kept the tension level up through the whole thing. I just wish my brain had stopped coming up with ways to distract/capture/kill the creatures. The boy wants to go get the sequel now.

This is mostly fine. It never hits the highs of the original Pirates of the Caribbean but it's certainly not bad. The CGI makes it ugly at points and some plot points feel overly contrived but there's a decent twist and the chemistry/charisma of Johnson and Blunt is enough to make it enjoyable. [**½]

139. Dollar (1999 straight-to-video movie) - Watched this on YouTube. This is a movie that featured the late MC Breed (best known for the song, "Ain't No Future in yo Frontin'") as the titular character. Hell, he even had a hand in the story, as well as was featured on the soundtrack (more on this in a bit), and I think he also had a hand in the production. It felt like a project he wanted to do.
I will note that I was curious about this for years because I remember coming across a page for the soundtrack on the Tower Records website way back when but thought nothing of it at the time. However, a couple of years ago I found the soundtrack CD at a record store that was closing and bought it and thought about checking out the film. However, VHS was the only format I could find it on and it was either unavailable or expensive. And then I found that it was on YouTube.
For a low-budget hip-hop movie, all I could say is that it's short and I wasn't bored by it. Yes, the acting was bad and the story was predictable, but I didn't feel angry for watching it nor did I feel bored by it. This movie is one of those "You could do worse" situations. It's not a good movie by any stretch of the imagination. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if some of it was done to promote MC Breed's album that was coming out around that same time. There was even a music video sequence (I kid you not). Like I said, I wasn't bored by it and it's really an hour long. I also wonder if the bits with Breed doing the narration were shot on the same day. I did like the lighting during those bits, though.
A bit of some additional commentary: I noticed that the video on YouTube was completely ripped from the VHS that it not only included the trailers and ads at the start, but also music videos after the movie. Ah, the days when VHS had the extras after the movie. Brings back memories.

95. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003) 96. Steel (1997) 97. Sesame Street Presents: Follow That Bird (1985)I continue my exploration of lesser regarded superhero movies by examining the theatrical debut of the legendary Super Grover! Found this on HBO Max and couldn't resist. Fun kids movie, don't really know what more to say about it. I mean, it's Sesame Street, what else can I say about it? Plus, since this technically has a post-credit scene, I think it's fair enough to claim this as part of the MCU.

87. The Croods: A NewAge
I barely remember seeing the original but it doesn’t matter. The story in this stands up by itself. It’s an all star cast of voice actors having a blast with a silly script. Very enjoyable fun for the whole family.

88. Age of Dinosaurs
Ronny Cox is the biotech CEO who brings the dinosaurs back to life. Treat Williams is the retired firefighter who has to save his daughter (and the entire city of Los Angeles) from the resulting rampage. It’s an Asylum movie so you know it is badly written, badly acted, and has terrible special effects. The wife and I watched it expecting it to be crap and that is what we got.

89. Once Upon a Time…In Hollywood
Quentin Tarantino has a blast rewriting Hollywood history in 1969. DiCaprio and Pitt go all in as they shout out what actually was and mix it with how it could have been. A little bit long? Sure. Entertaining from start to finish? Definitely.

140. Snake Eyes: GI Joe Origins - Saw this in theaters. I had to put the full title in. It was either that or add in the year to avoid confusion with the 1998 Nicolas Cage film, entitled Snake Eyes (Though I am tempted to revisit that one soon).
In no way am I an expert on GI Joe lore, as I didn't grow up with the cartoons, whether it was the original 1980s series, GI Joe: Extreme (mid-1990s), Sigma (mid-2000s), Resolute (the Adult Swim show), or Renegades (early-2010s), nor did I have any of the action figures. I might read some of the comics sometime and maybe check out some other cartoons if I could. With that being said, I was entertained by the film, especially the fight scenes and the climactic chase, even though the editing was all over the place to some degree. There were some elements that made me think of Black Rain (that Michael Douglas movie about the Yakuza), Batman Begins, as well as other ninja films. Being that this was an origin story of the most mysterious character of the GI Joe franchise, I didn't mind it. It may have taken itself a little too seriously, but I had fun with it.

90. Isle of Dogs
Wes Anderson makes some weird freaking movies. In this one, a Japanese mayor banishes all the dogs in his city to an island and one young boy fights to get his dog back. It is animated in a style similar to The Fantastic Mr Fox. The humans all speak Japanese but the dogs speak English. Most of the characters stare straight into the camera as they speak their lines. And yet the story is compelling and satisfying. If you can accept the strangeness of it all, it is very enjoyable.

This was on the verge of being one of the best sci-fi movies I've seen in a while. It has tense moments, good performances, and well developed characters. That final act just feels like it's out of a totally different movie, bringing the score down a bit. [****]

91. Scoob!
The Scooby gang join forces with Blue Falcon and Dynomutt to stop Dick Dastardly from destroying the world. It was an all star voice cast with a decent story and mediocre animation. They really should have cut out the Simon Cowell cameo which was unnecessary and not funny.

141. Dawn of the Dead (2004) - Watched this on Blu Ray. In the age of remakes, it always seems like such a taboo topic among movie fans. Of course, with the trend mainly happening in the 2010s to now, the 2000s was hit or miss when it came to remakes. This was one of those hits.
I had heard a lot of good things about this version. Hell, when people discuss Zack Snyder, this was one of the primary exceptions to his filmography as this was actually a good remake of the George A. Romero film of the same name. Several of the effects worked, whether it was the makeup, the lighting, the squibs, etc. The editing and direction worked. The story worked with its premise being a little different from the 1978 original. I even found myself liking one character who I found unlikable at first.
I have to say that this film lives up to its reputation. I watched the unrated version, by the way.
