Watching that show on the Network earlier, today and the main event had me thinking- did anyone believe that special match should have been at a big four pay per view main event, instead of Battleground? Or did you guys like the booking?

I prefer it happening how it did. It probably should have happened at Mania at some point - really if Seth had been healthy for Mania 32 it should have happened there, certainly would've been better than what we actually got - but I don't think holding off on it for the sake of holding off on it would've been a good idea when Battleground was the show that most lined up story and timing-wise for it. And really it's probably the closest there ever was to a period of time where all three Shield guys were decent television at the same time.

Absolutely. If Ambrose could have stayed, Mania 35 could have been time for another one.

Absolutely. If Ambrose could have stayed, Mania 35 could have been time for another one. I mean, Ambrose was there for a month after 'Mania. They could have easily had a Shield triple threat at Mania instead of having him lose to EC3 and start a feud with Nia Jax.

Doing a huge match for a show people otherwise would largely ignore actually makes a lot of sense. People were going to watch Mania regardless.

I am in the “it should have headlined wrestlemania” camp. More eyes on it that way and a far better way to establish the gravitas of the match and stardom of all three guys.

It was the right time
Holding it off would have felt artificial and trying to create a moment. All 3 guys were champ in one night at MITB and it made sense to have that triple threat match
If all stuck around in the company, a mania main event featuring them was damn sure in the cards but I don't think you had to save their first matchup for that moment

I'm of two minds on this. I can see why others preferred doing it at SummerSlam or another big PPV, but at the same time you gotta make the B shows worth a shit as well.

Rather bad it at Survivor Series than a Mania.

I thought they did a network special of his last match/shield reunion in February

Between that last appearance in WWE and his AEW debut, it was barely over a month.

I think it could have been a Mania main event, but that it had more value in that being a Mania main event years down the line. The match happening when it did was a good call, and the value of having a story play out after years of them doing their own things could have had some real power to it. That didn't shake out, obviously, but I don't think a Shield trtiple threat Mania match needed to be The First Time Ever to have meaning.
