The one he won off Shiek looks about 10 thousand years old. That one HAD to change. Backlund got that belt in January 1983. He didn't like the size, preferring 'the Bruno belt'; where he could wear it comfortably under a ring jacket and show everybody. (Gene Kiniski used to do that, lift his jacket to show off the belt.) The IC belt around the same time looked like a relic from the early 60s. Until Tito won it, the thing looked so small because it was on pudgy guys like Pedro & Muraco.

And I am one who actually LIKES the Hogan '86 more than the WE. I’ve always preferred the Hogan 86 title belt to the Winged Eagle title belt too.

Never seen the belts in the second and third photos. Strangely that second one is reminiscent of the AEW title.

A couple years ago, I did some research into the different wwf belts. From my understanding is that Hogan hated the big green belt so He introduced Vince to the belt marker that made his Rocky 3 belt. Hogan 84 and 85 belts are based on the rocky belt and it would later be reused for some NWA belts.
Then Hogan used 2 differents belts in 86. The one with a picture of his face on it that was only used for 2 to 3 shows while the one with the globe was used until 88 when they debuted the winged eagle belt at the hogan/andre rematch.

Probably a combo of just experimenting till they found a design they felt worked, and also trying to find one that was totally different from anything any other promotion was using. And man did they. I maintain that image of Robert Leech carrying the sparkling new winged eagle down the aisle on a velvet pillow at WM 4 is the pinnacle of how you present a world title. Made it look like the holy grail.

Wasn’t the belt basically considered a myth until a few years ago because all anyone had was the same grainy picture of Hogan wearing it? And lots of people just wrote it off as being a shitty picture of the other Hogan 86 belt

The picture above is from the only known copy of the belts.

Monsoon mentions at Mania 3 that win, lose or draw that would be the last night Hogan wore that particular title. So did they debut a new one right after?
