Just out of curiosity, he licensed the song for usuage for a certain time period right? Because that isn't the same as buying it. He bought the rights to use it So long as he ever wants to use it, he can it seems So from now on anyone who wants to use that song has to pay Tony Khan?

No he doesn't full blown own the copyright to the song but Khan can use the song until the heat death of the universe.

From my recent experience of trying to get music, he has a license to use it for as long as he has it. Any person who could afford to can do the same thing but, well, it’s really expensive, which is why people go down cheaper avenues like public domain databases or commissioning artists for their music (or in the case of wrestling companies, do it in house).

I mean I'm pretty sure Nick Mondo is working backstage for AEW Mondo did direct Moxley's "Escape" video when he left WWE. Which went on to become Moxley's entrance video in AEW. I would not be surprised that he is on the Khan payroll, and if he is, good for him. Mondo has worked hard his whole life, whether it be as a pro wrestler, or filmmaker, and deserves any/all acclaim he gets. Monday is an AV director for Impact

I gotcha. I needed clarity on whether he had the right to use it indefinitely, or if he actually owned it now to where other people would have to pay him and not the artist or record company if they wanted to use it.

I get you. The best example I guess to use is the difference between buying an editing software like Vegas Pro and getting the license to use it like Adobe does now.

AEW is in desperate need of some licensed music, cause their original tracks are some of the buttrockiest buttrock I've heard outside of Japanese import games.

I think most are good but nothing wrong with getting amazing songs for your themes. Like their recent works with Kingaton,Varsity Blondes ,etc are really goos but of course not even close to Tarzan Boy

I feel like some AEW themes deserve more credit than that, like Kingston and Hobbs are bangers to me, among others like Hangman just feel right. If Khan can afford some more licensed themes it's not a bad thing, but we're nowhere near Dale Oliver TNA bad with AEW's themes.

AEW's Sting theme is the best one he's had since his classic theme in WCW.

Glad to see AEW's music guy Mikey Rukus getting some love here. Absolutely stellar talent.
Glad AEW is licensing songs too, great use of their resources.
Sidenote, WWE's agreement to license "Cult of Personality" might be expiring this year, so it'll be interesting to see if they either renew it, scrub it with significant network re-uploads, or somehow unprecedentedly broke the bank to license it from Sony/ATV for more than a decade back in 2011.

I really hope Tony starts going crazy licensing a shitload of songs. On one hand, Jungle Boy already had the best AEW theme imo so that's sad. On the other, this is the first step in giving Kip Sabian his proper theme song! I love the Jurassic Express theme and figure they'll keep that for JE matches still. Wonder if Luchasaurus will get a solo theme, or if the JE one is his.

I figure the JE theme is Luchasaurus's since it's mostly centered around the dino aspect anyway. And now, all three of them have a theme since Marko has his knockoff of Pat Benetar's We Belong now.

Think of all of the guys that will get over better with a familiar song as theme. SMW didn't do it legally. Rick Rubin just told them they could do it because he knew there was little chance anyone would get onto them about it. It's a lot harder when you have international television and the internet to get away with that.

"Um Tony, why is my entrance music GG Allin's Sluts in the city?"- a very confused Wardlow I love the idea of them having a wrestler literally named after GG Allin on the roster and the theme not going to him.

Sounds like how ECW and ROH got away with it until they got too popular: too small for anyone to care about them using music without licensing it.
