19. Psycho Dream
Had never played this thing before, just knew it was in with the Switch SNES games and apparently short. Just did a run through of it and... Yeeeah. Kind of no wonder no one's heard of this thing, even at only taking like an hour to beat it still pretty badly overstayed its welcome.

20. New Super Mario Bros. 2
Having revisited NSMBU a few months ago makes it really obvious on revisiting this one how much it sucks by comparison.
It's easy to let the NSMB games bleed together in your head (and if anything, I think U has this problem the most because it doesn't really have a gimmick you can point to as making it different like 1 having the Blue Shell and unique bosses, 2 having its coins thing, and Wii being really damn hard), but actually playing these two in close proximity to each other, yeesh, it's not even close. Like, NSMB2 is still a decent way to kill some time, because the core Mario mechanics are there and handle great, but the level design is just not good.
In particular it seems to just... have very little interest in just having Mario levels? A lot of the early ones are basically just big and open with the primary emphasis being on giving you a lot of coins rather than really challenging you to do anything, and nearly every endgame level is autoscrolling, down to the final boss fight (as well as the Dry Bowser repeat of that fight that seems to change absolutely nothing about it besides the color of the fire). Most of the levels that aren't still don't really have much in the way of actual platforming necessary, with many of them instead just kind of having you have to find a cubby hole to stand in while an obstacle goes by then continuing on unimpeded until it shows up again. In fact the final level is both of those things at once for most of it.
Like, it's not awful by any means - hell, it's a hell of a lot better than Psycho Dream was as much as I'm going harder on it - but it's a game that's really hard to actually say anything good about beyond, "I mean, it's Mario so it plays fine."
Also what's even the point of having Reznor fights where they have eight platforms if you're never actually having to fight eight of them at once?

Mega-Man 6
This makes all the NES Mega-Man games done. Funnily this one was probably the easiest.

11. inFAMOUS: Festival of Blood
I bought this on the PSN (PS3's version) a few days ago as I am taking advantage of getting some games before the PS3 store closes completely. For what it is, it's a fun game. I know it's not canon to the inFAMOUS storyline as it's more or less just a side story that one of the major characters conjured up. But gameplay-wise (and story-wise), it's not bad. You might knock it out in a few hours.

12. Fight'n Rage
As a connoisseur of beat-'em-up games, I will note that this is a fun game. But should you ever play this, just make sure that one, if you're wearing a step-monitoring watch (like a Fitbit or a Garmin watch) that your steps will increase because you will move from so much intensity. It's like if you're playing an old beat-'em-up in the arcade. And the other, this game does have its difficulty and like Streets of Rage 4 after it, there is a hit counter on it. Overall, it's a good game.

21. Super Mario Bros. 2
Usually I play as Peach but this time around I did the whole run as Mario just for a change of pace. It's a game I have a lot of affection for but it's not one I really find myself as inclined to drift to as the other SMB games, mostly since the levels can kind of drag a bit so it's not as pick-up-and-play. Still, it is a lot of fun and is a game I always enjoy coming back to.

22. Star Fox
I've played the original before but had never actually finished it, mostly because... Yeah, it hasn't aged great. Really the entire time I was just kind of feeling like I could have just been playing 64 instead. Still, once I got into a groove on it it was still fun, though often pretty cheap with how difficult it can be to discern things with its graphics. Might do the other routes sometime, though for the time being I'm pretty, "Well, I experienced that, that'll do," on it.

23. Toree 3D
Kind of a weird one but saw a very positive review for a random throwback 3D platformer on the Switch earlier that only costs a dollar and I figured what the hell. Turns out it's actually pretty fun; very basic and the physics can be pretty wonky but I certainly got my money's worth, seems like a good time-killer.

24. Resident Evil 4
Last time I beat it was just last year - twice in fact, once a new game then again on New Game Plus, both the PS4 version - but this time I mixed it up by doing it on the Switch! Woo? Either way, it's a classic of a game that I still have a blast with any time I play it, even if it does have its annoyances along the way and things that haven't aged the best.
Probably do another playthrough in the next day or two just because feel like New Game Plus is kind of a whole new experience from the base game just because it turns it from, "Often tense struggle for survival," to, "Hilarious mismatch where you effortlessly kill everything in your path," and they're both a lot of fun.

So far only Assassin's Creed: Origins (I think that might have actually been last year)
My gaming activity otherwise has been
1. Try to get into Horizon Zero Dawn but fail (Have gotten as far as winning that first corruptor fight)
2. Scrabble
Gaming motivation has just not been there lately for some reason.

3; Binding of Isaac: Repentance True Ending + new Alternate path
Sure there’s 8000 more things I need to do to 100% the game, but both the new paths and final bosses have been put down, so I’ll count it.
5 / 5

25. Shantae: Half-Genie Hero
I've fiddled with all of the Shantae games before it, but this was the first one I actually finished; kind of just picked it up on a whim since I was in the mood, it was discounted, and I figured that I'd be more likely to play one to completion on the Switch.
Really enjoyed myself with it, lot of fun, and I'm considering going ahead and picking up Seven Sirens as well while it's also discounted. Do want to also explore the side modes in this one though so not entire sure on whether to get it yet. It's only on sale for the rest of the day I think though so not a lot of time to think about it.

14. Streets of Rage 2
Played through this game numerous times and definitely not the first time I've beaten it, either. However, I was so close to doing without a continue. Oh well.

26. Alan Wake
I had never played it before, but it's being removed from Gamepass soon and isn't a long playthrough so I went ahead and did a run of it. I mostly really enjoyed it, but I feel like it kind of falls apart at the end; the ending is kind of just needlessly messy and I feel like it doesn't really tonally fit with the rest of the game, the final boss fight is an absolute joke, and getting to it is a slog between the endless waves of the same couple of times of enemies over and over and how the chapter otherwise basically doesn't have any further story in it.
Don't know if I might look into the follow-ups at some point or not. I do have a certain level of curiosity, but not really overwhelmingly so. Still, I'm glad I got around to playing it.

Repeated playthrough - Streets of Rage 4
I might do this with some basic games like beat-'em-ups or old school style run-n-gun games, or even something like Hotline Miami. Anyway, I went through playthroughs with Floyd and Cherry (something I should have done a while ago) to beat the game with all five characters and to unlock the classic sprites. I might go through it again.

27. Grand Theft Auto IV
Because of a glitch at the finish line I had to do the last mission on my 360 instead of on the Series S like I played the rest of the game on but hey, whatever gets the job done I suppose.
It was my first time playing it in probably six or seven years? I know I last played it after having first played GTA 5, and I hadn't played my 360 since I got my PS4 back in early 2016, so fairly limited window of time when I could have last done a run through of it. Either way, the lack of mission variety definitely hurts it and it's missing a lot of convenient quality of life things, but it's still a ton of fun to go back to. Not decided yet if I'm going straight into Lost & Damned or if I want to do something else first.

I beat the Ghostbusters: The Video Game remaster and had a good, fun time. You could say the gameplay is fairly same-y, with some variations, and unbalanced in spots, plus the story does pay a little too much tribute to revisiting Ghostbusters 1. But the real strength of it is having the original four voicing their characters together once last time (due to Ramis no longer being with us). They really nail the tone and character interactions and there are several genuinely funny moments. That strong character work and successfully capturing the right atmosphere made it one of the best movie/tv show tie-in games I've played to date, up there with stuff like The Warriors and Friday the 13th for having the right vibe. Simply put, if you liked the films, you'll like the game.
More recently, I played Mundaun. First person pencil-style folklore horror game set in a isolated village high in the Swiss Alps. Real unique atmosphere, was a labour of love over years for the one-man developer and gives you a flavour you don't really get elsewhere. It's not hugely challenging but will take a few hours to beat and was just refreshingly different as I trekked around, met the few weird inhabitants, explored caves, found a talking goat head and ran away from haybale monsters. All this and a very sinister old man in a hat! Well worth your time.
Next up, probably finally finishing off the SW Battlefront II campaign, still playing Deep Rock Galactic and Vermintide II (beat the Drachenfels maps recently, enjoyed that) and finally going to get round to playing Streets of Rage 4.

28. Famicom Detective Club: The Girl Who Stands Behind
Shorter than I expected and it definitely has some clunky choices in terms of progression, but I still had a lot of fun with it. There is a pretty interesting contrast in how it's pretty much in all respects still a very old-school NES adventure game, but with a lot of modern presentation added in with the graphics, music, and voice acting, it gives it this really unique feel from how its various parts don't really ordinarily mix together. Story is genuinely good too, I did have a lot of investment in kind of trying to piece together what was happening. Though I do think I was often overthinking it and coming up with more interesting scenarios than what the actual payoffs wound up being, I guess just due to a consequence of when the original game came out compared to a lot of the stuff in the genre that's come since that's a lot more twisty.
Either way I'd definitely recommend it. Thinking about going ahead and picking up Missing Heir now.
