So, I'm sitting there watching the 1/19/91 episode of WWF Superstars when the Nasty Boys - promoted as "newcomers" to the federation - arrive with Jimmy Hart. As they make their way to the ring, they arrive to sounds I hadn't heard before.
Yes Virginia, the original WWF Nasty Boys theme had lyrics, and from what I could make out they're super catchy. More than that, this wasn't a case like their WCW theme with playful Nasty off-key singing over it, or as often the case with themes that change early on where they go from a version with lyrics to just a version with no lyrics.
Rather, this was a synth heavy banger in the style of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. For 1991 this was especially current as to what the prevalent sound in pop music was, so from what I could make out it was quite impressive.
The chorus went:
"REAL! NASTY! NASTY BOYS!
REAL! NASTY! NASTY BOYS!"
Has a clean or clean-er version of this ever leaked or been released? The style of how it's mixed (along with the fact that he was their manager) sounds like it was a Jimmy Hart production rather than a Jim Johnston one, but I may totally be wrong.
Anyone else heard this?

Wow, that was fast. It sounds familiar and very close, it might but it. I'll have to listen closer at their next appearance. Thanks!

Jimmy had some winners but if he's responsible for that theme, that's not one of them. Mid way through Vince exaggerates one of the guy's weight. The song they went with was much better as was their WCW theme. I wonder if Jimmy or one of the two told WCW song writers about this which led to their WCW theme. I know they had just turned face not long after Jimmy came along.

OK, wow, you ready for a wild link?
I was trying to figure out where I recognized that particular orchestral stab sound before. You know, the jarring synthed strings? I know these were super popular in the 80s and 90s, but this one wasn't one of the stock yamaha stabs. So, I went down a wormhole of listening to different performances that orchestral stabs are pulled from and I think I may have found it.
I'm like 90% certain it's the second stab from this performance of Stravinsky's 'The Firebird' with the New York Philharmonic (around 2:11 or 2:12, start listening at 1:59 to get the full impact)
I also think this is the version sampled for the classic 'Mortal Kombat' theme 'Techno Syndrome' by The Immortals (aka Lords of Acid).
So, if you were ever looking how to link the Nasty Boys to Igor Stravinsky - here it is.

And now I know why this didn't last.
If they played it long enough, you get unwanted (at the time) DDP cameos.

In AWA, their theme was actually "Nasty" by Janet Jackson. So a sound alike I guess it makes sense, I am guessing that will be dubbed over on the Network.
