Yeah, I’d say he was lucky that more people visit YouTube for review now than they would external websites because that was the deathnail for TGWTG even before Change the Channel happened for Critic’s comeback.

I used to love Doug's work but even by To Boldly Flee I started finding him grating. Most of his contemporaries had evolved from shtick reviewers to legitimately thought out reviewers who happened to be funny while he just became ever more of a one note shrill manbaby. Even AVGN had made a lot of changes to his character and presentation that Doug clearly was either unwilling or unable to make. He sort of reminded me of that one friend you used to have in high school who was funny back then but you meet them for a drink several years later and they're still doing the same immature crap even though it hasn't been funny for years and it's just kind of sad.

As I've said before, most of Doug's contemporaries were actual, genuine geeks. Good or bad, they had a real interest in the stuff they were reviewing. Doug wasn't really a geek, he was only portraying one as a character. He was a comedian and his interest in the stuff he's reviewing doesn't go beyond what he can mine for jokes.
