... are fascinated by
Mine is Mortal Kombat. I'm not a big fighting game fan and these aren't even the best in that area but damnit if it doesn't make me feel nostalgic and even the new ones occupy alot of mind space for me.

The Silent Hill series. Visuals and mood and plotting are incredible but egads those controls.

Most of them I guess.
I don't play video games much but I know who all the iconic characters are and what the big franchises are for the most part.

Eve Online is king of this. Epic all day space battles with hundreds of thousands of players and real world dollars at stake. Tales of cunning, daring and betrayal. Sounds amazing.
Then you look at the actual game and it's an incomprehensible mass of data. Oh well, at the stories are interesting.

I'm another who feels this way about Mortal Kombat. I like the characters and the concept, but in terms of gameplay there are so many better fighting games out there.

Harry Potter- the films have some brilliant actors/actresses in them but I could just never get into the whole magic thing.

The Paradox games like Hearts of Iron, Crusader Kings, Victoria, etc.
I’m a huge history nerd, and in theory I like the idea of playing around with the strategy, geopolitics, political intrigue, etc. But I cannot wrap my head around how to actually play them to save my life. It’s all just...so much complicated STUFF.

I agree 100% with Mortal Kombat. I hate fighting games but every time a new one is announced I immediately start reading on the lore and characters. I would be in heaven if they made a new shaolin Monks but I figure MK and injustice are too much of money makers that WB doesn't want Neatherrelm working on anything else.
Another series that I was really into, though mostly for the memes, was Overwatch. I hate pretty much anything multiplayer but the character designs and fan output made me care for a while.

League of Legends.
The gameplay does absolutely nothing for me, but I really enjoy pretty much everything else associated with the property. The character designs, the artwork, the lore, the music, all very entertaining to me. The gameplay? Not so much.

Five Nights at Freddy's. I would not have the patience to put up with the red light/green light gameplay with constant jump scares but there is something fascinating about its atmosphere & lore.

And LoL's community is particularly toxic. But the character designs, skins, artwork, the K/DA music videos, and stuff like their magical girl parody all really fascinate me.

It was “Star Trek” but I’m really getting into it now.

Any Full Motion Video game, for example I love the Don Bluth designed characters from Dragon's Lair and Space Ace but I'm not a big fan of the quick time event styled gameplay. Another example would be the Digital Pictures games such as Night Trap or Double Switch, it's fun to laugh at the cheesy B movie level acting and effects but the trial and error/memorization style gameplay is not my cup of tea.

I second Silent Hill. I like the lore and will watch videos detailing the stories, but the games (minus the second one) are not my thing gameplay wise.

I have yet to play a Yakuza game, but that cast looks hella badass.
The MK lore I think is great stuff. I don’t play it that often because I am hot garbage at Netherrealm mechanics. It’s the opposite of Street Fighter and KOF with me where while I do enjoy those lores as well (especially SNK’s), the series draw for me with them is learning the different play styles and challenging other players.

Street Fighter for me. There's a lot to love about it, but the controls are like 20 years out of date for basically no reason beyond not wanting to update and it seems like they actively try to make the games not accessible for newcomers.
