It sounds like Metallica trying to sound like Black Sabbath.
And the cover is black (I know they say it's a Spinal Tap homage).
Anyone agree? Disagree?

Gotta be honest, I don't hear much of a Black Sabbath 'sound' in a lot of the songs.

It's a much better album than its detractors give it credit for. That said, it does have the first unlistenably awful Metallica song, "Don't Tread On Me".

I'd say it was more Bob Rock slowing the band down so the album would appeal to a wider audience.
And he was right.

Maybe latter-day Tony Martin-era Sabbath, but even that’s a stretch....

For the record, I'm totally fine with people disagreeing with me.
I just want to point out that I mean more the song structures and stuff as opposed to the actual "sound" if that makes a difference.
