Pleased to see I wasn't alone, that was absolutely heartbreaking. I knew it would get grief from some as the focus shifted away from Joel and Ellie but quality television is quality television and that was brilliant.

spoilered as the show has just finished about 40 minutes ago in the uk. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}I understand the choice of building up Bill's backstory in the show so that you have the emotional gut punch of his death, but it seems a waste of a character to do so when he could be of use towards the end of the series or in the next series.
that said they weren't sure there would be a second series until recently, but still a weird choice to kill off a character you could use later. unless they pull a "well he didn't die on screen, we just implied he died." retcon in future, but that would cheapen the impact of this episode. {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW} Bill doesn't even come back int he game, I am fine with what was done
The house is still there with all his supplies to be used. Bill would had not been the same person
If anything he would became a cruel hardened bastard like he was in the game

As someone who hasn’t played the game, I’m watching the show with no comparison or frame of reference to it. As such I had no idea if Bill was an original character in the game, but damn if I wasn’t emotionally invested in this episode.
Hell, wasn’t everyone (aside from the trolls)? Absolutely captivating television.

My first time seeing Murray Bartlett in something was Guiding Light in 2007, and I adored him ever since. I've seen him in a few guest roles since, on White Collar, The Good Wife and shows like that, but the last few years feel like I've really been reintroduced to him between White Lotus, Welcome to Chippendales, and now Last Of Us. I adore it, and hope I continue seeing him in things! This picture's been circulating around Tumblr and it's made me very happy

The trolls are just avoiding obvious subtext to make a claim that seeing a gay person on tv will make their dicks fall off or something

Wooooooowwwww what an amazing episode give everyone all of the Emmys for this one.
I don’t even think I’m being a prisoner of the moment in thinking it’s one of the best episodes of television I’ve ever watched in my life…

Aging/de-aging CGI has come a long way since the “young” De Niro in The Irishman. Guy Pearce in Prometheus and Leo in J Edgar had to do an Eric Bishoff-like 5 hour stint in the makeup chair when they played characters of vastly different ages too and those films aren’t that old.
Both characters in that episode looked great whether they were 45 or 65.

I just got done watching the most recent episode. Let me give my take. {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}I had heard that Bill was going to appear, but I was not expecting a whole episode devoted to him and his relationship with Frank. Then again, the previews have shown that there is going to be an episode devoted to "Left Behind." So I shouldn't complain about it.
With that being said, I will give Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett some credit. I had already figured that it would touch on their relationship and I also knew that Bill was gay because of the scene when Ellie picks up his magazine. So if Neil Druckmann wanted to keep Bill's sexual orientation as such, then so be it. Also, Bartlett and Offerman had believable chemistry.
I was actually expecting the next episode to be when Joel and Ellie meet with Bill in his home and then team up with him (I wonder if we're going to get the Bloaters soon). Bill was already portrayed as a bitter and untrusting person here as he was in the game. Like someone else had mentioned, it would have made Bill even worse in regards to his lack of trust in anybody. I also have to give it to Druckmann for having the whole story end with both men dying rather than Frank committing suicide. I actually thought it would come to that.
I don't think the Boston bit is over yet. I am thinking that next episode will have Sam and Henry appear.

Granted, that isn't exactly a big secret especially with the promo material for TLOU2. But there are people watching the show who haven't played a minute of the games. So better safe than sorry.

They really haven't been subtle about it anyway BUT if they couldn't see Bill was gay in the games than I don't see how they possibly get this right in front of their face.

Imagine watching THAT episode and just being hung up on the characters being gay. What a beautiful, sad and great episode.

Even if Bill wasn’t gay in the game, imagine caring that he was gay in the show. That story is more interesting because he’s gay. Because it explains so much about why Bill was the way he was. He’s a doomsday preppier. He loves guns. Surely he can’t be gay? As if being gay means you have to be any one thing. Those prejudices are so deeply ingrained within us, that it was probably a lie Bill told himself. Better to just isolate yourself from everyone, than to come to terms with who you are. But Frank helps him accept what he’s always known. The message that the writers are trying to put across wouldn’t have had the same impact if it was a man falling in love with a woman. Bill has to come to his realization, so that he can help Joel come to his. Yeah that’s the thing. He’s a true, blue, dyed in the wool loves his guns, “don’t tread on me” doomsday prepper, who is also a gay man with a penchant for fine dining. That’s an insanely fascinating dichotomy for a character to have.
It was impressive how gracefully they situated Bill's paranoia in that late 1990s, early 2000s moment, with the passing references to his believing in 'New World Order' conspiracies and being a 9/11 truther being enough. Shifting the outbreak from 2013 to 2003 has been done with a light touch, and been better for it.

Just watched episode 3. I can't believe they went there. {Spoiler} They went without having Ellie and Bill bickering back and forth. That was one of my favorite parts of the first game.

Damn that episode went by quick {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW} Some really nice bonding between Ellie/Joel with the joke book coming and the magazine scene
First time we have seen them in danger together as a duo so the tension is high but they are learning each other
Sam and Henry appearance to end the episode is a nice hook
