On a group text with a few friends. And the MandelaEffect comes up. I mention Shazam, a non-existing movie where the comedian Sinbad plays a genie. Literally everyone, besides me, swore they saw this movie. Now, of course they didn’t. As I said, this movie does not exist. They could not tell me one thing, besides Sinbad being a genie, about the movie. They couldn’t tell me what the story was, who else’s was in it, or tell me one scene from the movie. I was able to convince a couple of them that maybe they had a false memory. But there was no convincing others. It was maddening.
I understand the phenomenon. The Berenstein/Berenstain Bears one is one that got me. But that one makes sense. I mean, -Stein is a much a more common suffix than -stain. It’s pretty easy to see how the name of a children’a book series was collectively mistaken. But the mass delusion about an entire movie just baffles me.

It's been accepted for awhile now that "eyewitness testimony" is really pretty shitty evidence. Human memory is much more fallible than we think.
