For anyone curious this article seems to be about how Mai Itoh raising the middle finger and how it became a part of her character breaking away from traditional norms, no clue if there are any other trinkets of info in there.

For anyone curious this article seems to be about how Mai Itoh raising the middle finger and how it became a part of her character breaking away from traditional norms, no clue if there are any other trinkets of info in there. The majority of it is about the conflict of using the middle finger. She talks about how she didn't do it in the taped matches because Aja told her it was a taboo in the US, gets blurred out on TV, and could even get you killed, so Itoh refrained because she didn't want AEW to be a one off. When she got to AEW she did it because people seemed to know it was part of her character and Tony told her it was totally cool to do it, and also because she figured Aja wasn't watching. The rest is some stuff she mentioned in a recent ShuPro column. Basically that she was surprised they put her on the heel team because she says she's never been a heel and just a babyface who fights like a heel, and that she doesn't care about any hate she got because for every 100 or 200 that hate her, an overwhelming number like her, doesn't intend to cater to people who already dislike her. Her image of a star is something that people don't like, and she prefers to have a 6:4 or 7:3 supporter to hater ratio, and that her next goal is the Princess of Princess title next week.

I wonder how taboo the f-word (and its Japanese language equivalent of course) is in Japan compared to the US.

I wonder how taboo the f-word (and its Japanese language equivalent of course) is in Japan compared to the US. It doesn't really have a 1:1, to my understanding. Like, there is definitely rough language and being uncouth, but it's not quite the same thing.

I wonder how taboo the f-word (and its Japanese language equivalent of course) is in Japan compared to the US. Seen it used a lot in the Yakuza game franchise and adult rated anime

I don't know much about Japanese culture and how the American F-word is taken there, but I do know brother YASSHI's been using flipping the bird and yelling "f*** f*** f***" as a signature taunt since the mid 2000s.

She would never work in WWE, so it doesn't surprise me she wouldn't want to go there, her gimmick would be chopped off at the knees even in NXT. Her dream is AEW so if any North American company signs her it's gonna be them.

Considering she has such a good business relationship with AEW, it wouldn't make sense to throw that away and go to the wwe. Just from a career stand point alone it doesn't work.

WWE also has so many women now that even a few on NXT are starting to get lost in the shuffle, or used as enhancement talent.

It would be nonsensical for someone with her gimmick to go to WWE. She wouldn't be able to do the vast majority of her shtick.

Yeah Maki Itoh wouldn't work in WWE at all. Its better for her to come to AEW and have the opportunity to use her creativity to continue getting more and more over.

Yeah going to the WWE would absolutely kill her shtick. She wouldn't be able to flip people off on camera, let alone her newly learnt swears on twitter.

If Maki Itoh wanted to work for an exploitive and souless entertainment company with no respect towards her she could just go back to being an Idol

Maki had a legitimately great match in TJPW last night that people should go out of their way to see.
