I proudly simp for Maki.
And just like Thanos, her arrival in AEW is inevitable (she said it was her dream).

I found it really funny how many people on twitter got really mad about her losing when Maki kinda just talks a big game and then loses. She'll keep on coming back and is extremely stubborn but she will always eat shit.

I don’t agree that it’s a reason not to watch, but I do agree with a comment I saw on Twitter that a lot of people aren’t going to bother sticking around for the next rounds now that Maki’s out. A lot of people were only watching for her.

A lot of people were only watching for her. She never had a chance of winning. People only watching for her are missing out. If you were only around for Maki and not the rest then I think that says a bit about your actual interest in the tournament lol. Like...why not care about other entrants when given a chance to care? She’ll have plenty of chances to shine and already did. I’m sure these people who quit over seeing Maki lose a match are totally people who subscribe to Wrestle Universe and watch her lose weekly. If only there was some other way Maki fans could watch Maki matches routinely.

Is she supposed to be doing a Jillian Hall/Brooke Hogan delusional, terrible singer gimmick? Because I actually liked that performance lol.
This was my first time seeing her and before that I had only heard about her due to that hilarious response she had to Cornette's typical racist comments but one quick look on Twitter and she seems to be developing the creepiest fanbase since Mickie James in the mid-2000s.
It's not quite as bad as Cornette's "every Japanese women's wrestler is a schoolgirl fetish" but there is a section of fans who weirdly infantilize Japanese women. They're always cute, adorable, "must be protected at all costs", etc. Language which is never used for other groups. Even 40 year old grown ass woman and badass, horror movie-esque character Asuka still gets it to a degree even if it's less so than the likes of Maki, Kairi, Riho, etc.

I'm not too familiar with her history but it seems like she's a former pop idol who is now an Anti Idol who acts all cute but is actually an over the top asshole (hence her flipping people off and swearing all the time).

The catch is that she was fired for just not quite being good enough (and for having "too big a head/face", which plays into her headbutt gimmick), and her character is that falling short of that dream piled up on her falling short on other dreams in life, so she uses the loud, ego-driven personality style of pro wrestling to gain people's respect and adoration as a means of covering up her enormous insecurities. Then she loses most of her big matches, but she's so stubborn in her quest for respect that she constantly comes back, keeps getting up, etc.

They don't have to care about the other wrestlers if they don't want to.

I like that move where she just nonchalantly falls over and gives a head butt.

I was reading some obnoxious reddit/Twitter posts at the time about how AEW blew it by not having Maki win and more or less targeting that and the sentiment that like the entirety just isn't worth it without her because I guess I feel like it ignores her own promotion, schedule, other talent, giving things a chance etc and in a bad mood. Nobody has to care about anything they aren't interested in--God knows I'm selective when it comes to watching lol

Honestly, it speaks to how booking Maki at all was very much a double edged sword. She clearly drew attention and had a banger of an introduction match, but she was never going past round one and that isn't the best thing for anyone who was most interested in her. Hope that the extra attention was worth it in the end.

No, my take is that they set themselves up for a little backlash. In all likelihood, it's a drop in the bucket, but I did wonder if it wasn't the best way to set Ryo up for success.

Seeing tweets like this makes me realize Maki can attract a new generation of fans, specially the young ones.

I watched her match twice, and she's amazing. Instantly in my top 10 wrestlers now.
I want her to have zoom Dark Order meetings with Silver and Reynolds on BTE.

If you didn't mean it that way it's all good. I probably could have responded in a less dickish way too.
