They literally did that with Raya two weeks ago. They did but the implication was that it wasn't going to be the norm. And this is them saying "it's the norm until July".

There is not one thing there that even makes me want to think about seeing it.

Amos Slade origin story, NOW.
(I'd actually like a Young Chief story too...would love to see how he became the crotchety old hunting dog...)

I shouldn't want to have sex with a Disney villain this much.

Well this is out. And reading Phelous' reactions on Twitter made me realize my worst fears came true. They came up with the laziest possible reason why we should sympathize with Cruella. {Spoiler} HER PARENTS ARE DEADDDDDD! Because dalmatians ran them off a cliff. Is it worth it to beg Disney to just put Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis in charge of the live action department?

Sounds like it's so bad it becomes funny due to how bad it is

Jesus Christ I watched it and it isn't why we should sympathize with her, matter of fact it was way better than Mulan and Aladdin. The soundtrack was great, Emma Stone was great. It could have been a little shorter is my only gripe. It's more a revenge movie than sympathy movie

I want a whole line of Disney villain movies where their motivations all come from implausible backstories relating to whatever they do in the original movie. Give me an Ursula movie where she became an outcast because everyone used to make fun of her voice.

I like Emma Stone, but she's got another Aloha on her hands. At least this one isn't racist, I guess.

For that matter, Captain Hook could turn evil because his parents are killed by flying pans. Jafar's get electrocuted by a lamp?

New Maleficint where the real story is her parents were killed by babies... >_> Gaston's mom calls him a scrawny weakling and then I dunno disappears after going to bang a bear ...

Just watched it and found it very enjoyable. The spoiler above I think is not entirely accurate (its missing a ton of context, it actually works well in the movie).
Very good film and Disney made this movie way better than I expected. It didn't feel like a Disney movie IMHO. Hope they make a part 2. Emma Stone was fun to watch in this, would like to see her revisit the character.
I think the comparisons to Wicked are fair. Reminded me of that in that it appears they are doing like that one and claiming that the narratives in 101 Dalmatians were false (much like the allegations alluded to in Wizard of OZ are false in the Wicked universe).

They did this, turned up to eleven, in Maleficent too. They do so by making everyone not named Maleficent totally incompetent or just a big jerk. I still say they could have salvaged it by revealing the movie to be a propaganda piece for a Maleficent who somehow took over the kingdom. The movie would still suck but look pretty, but it would help a little. And yes, all this comes from Disney's inability to get the rights to Wicked.

And yes, all this comes from Disney's inability to get the rights to Wicked. Universal has been sitting on the Wicked rights for over a decade. We will never know what could have been if they went with Wicked for the Christmas 2019 slot, instead of Cats. Meanwhile, Disney has made several Wicked rip-offs. Oz, the Great and Powerful Frozen Maleficent And now Cruella You could add the remakes of Cinderella and Alice in Wonderland to the list. As both had moments you were supposed to feel sympathy for the Stepmother and the Queen of Hearts. I fully expect the Little Mermaid remake to have Ursula be the rightful Queen of the sea, and that Triton took that from her. So, she uses Triton's daughter, Ariel, to get her throne back.
