Maybe Tim Burton needs the restraints of tv budgets because this looks less late stage Tim Burtony and by extension good.

Guzman is a perfect Gomez. The legit closest to the original Charles Addams version that I've seen in live action. Thanks for the reminder...some people might need it. Kind of like the people who need to be reminded that The Wizard of Oz came from dark children's storybooks, not a polished, happy musical movie from 1939. Or that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' original form was NOT a quartet of colorful, kid friendly, pizza loving dudes. Roughly on topic hot take: as such, the Lennie Weinrib Gomez voice on the Hanna-Barbera cartoon fit this Gomez better than hearing John Astin's voice comeout of him.

So I'm up to episode five of this, and I have to say this is one of the weirdest damn shows I've ever seen in my life. One moment it's the wacky 60's sitcom it's based on, then next moment it's Riverdale, the next it's Longmire. Seriously, whenever the Sheriff shows up it feels like he's walking in from a completely different show. It's like if when things started getting really rough in a Harry Potter movie Dumbledore goes out and brings in his old friend John Wick to sort things out. I've never seen a show lean into tonal whiplash so fervently.

My one question, did they randomly make Johnny Depp the star like they did for Alice in Wonderland? I'm curious, but that stunt ended my appreciation for the burton/Depp show.

Depp isn't in the show at all. Just all about Wednesday Addams at a weird private academy really with her as the main character. The other Addams are in it but as guest stars.

All the bits that you think would be Johnny Depp are just Luis Guizman doing his bulldog man thing. I literally watched the show cause I saw him as Gomez on a Netflix teaser.

One of my friends called this show a "spooky teen Columbo" and that makes me very interested to check it out lol.

I've seen the first episode and really, really liked it. Wednesday is a very fun character and I hope she stays that way. I don't want her to act weird because she's a hurt soul. I just want her to be weird and stay weird because she's weird. I don't want to see her cry, I don't want to see her bested too bad, I don't want the show's tone around her to change much. But tone might become a problem. The first episode felt indifferent between the Addam's family coming straight out of the '90's movies and everything else is dark in a realistic way.

Watched the first episode and my feelings are mixed. Great actors for Wednesday and Morticia and I like the visual look but everything also feels off. Like, it feels like they put the 90s movies, Bates Motel, a teen melodrama and a police procedural in a blender and don't know wtf to do. Plus, as good as the actor is I don't really have a good first impression of Wednesday. She's really unlikable.

I'm genuinely digging it a lot so far. It's also kind of fun seeing this and thinking, "Oh shit, so-and-so is in it?"
Christina Ricci's the obvious one to be glad to see involved, but random names like Riki Lindhome popping up is fun. (The Garfunkel and Oates member who doesn't sell NFTs, to my knowledge.)

I will get cranky if the show does not get continued. If it will, I will likely take notice when season 4 is announced or something. Bottom line: I was deeply entertained.

Given how Tim Burton has been criticized for the lack of black characters in his work, "My father owns Pilgrim World" was... quite a choice of direction.

Definitely expected it to be awful, but I'm 3 episodes in and loving it. If there is a weak point so far it is Gomez and Morticia - they aren't terrible but there is just no chemistry or energy out of them. Not enough to detract from the show so far though.
Jenna Ortega is absolutely wonderful.
Odd that this is a show set mostly at an academy and there have basically been no teachers or classes shown so far except for Christina Ricci's. Maybe that's a budgetary decision.
