Threw some punches and got Powerbombed by Cage for throwing away his bat.
I think most expected cinematic shenanigans once he arrived in AEW but I was not expecting to see the guy get powerbombed in the middle of a ring after his history of injuries and age. Could this mean he does more than just cinematic matches in the future?

That was definitely Sting's "I'm Back" bump
It's lovely to see him healthy again and also show that this feud can escalate. Hell of a moment all things considered.
I doubt we're gonna see Sting doing a ton of shit at this stage of his career, but whoever had "Sting and Tully Blanchard wrestling official 2021 matches" on your bingo cards... you win

Shocked me! Hardly does that happen. I’m looking forward to seeing a few Sting matches between the ropes.

Yeah, besides the match announcement at the end, this was the other most shocking thing about the show.
And I was so convinced that someone would run down and stop Cage as he was set up. Then he got him up...then he slammed him down and I literally covered my mouth with my hand.
But props to the guy for doing it and props for Cage for not messing it up, which was likely why he was allowed to do it.

A Powerbomb was thought to end his career for good, he takes a Powerbomb to prove he's back.

Schiavone mentioned on the postshow that Sting getting powerbombed by Cage was Sting's idea, and assures everyone that Sting isn't hurt at all.

I am so happy that A. Sting is getting to go out on his own terms and seems genuinely healthy and happy and B. He's being used like a legend and icon should be: We all love seeing him, but he's also on the downhill trajectory of his in-ring career, so he's here to give Darby and Team Taz the rub.
I'm looking forward to this match. Sting has that kind of charisma that as long as he can hit people with a bat and the Scorpion Death Drop, I'll always watch.
I do imagine that Brian Cage was told in no certain terms that it better be one of the safest powerbombs of his life, assuming he didn't know that already.

Being right in the middle of the ring probably made it a lot safer.

I hope Sting knows what he's doing. By all reports he is not in the best of shape, to put it mildly.

The grapefruits of the guy: I cannot imagine the pressure of delivering Stings first bump after the Seth Rollins match stuff.

Edge even had to have surgery on it because the pain was so bad. While Sting has never had to have surgery. He's rehabbed it and has had no pain at all for years. So if Edge gotten better enough after 8 and half years away from the ring. It's quite possible Sting has as well. Heck Sheamus just pinned WWE Champion on Monday. He missed 8 months rehabbing the same injury in 2019.

I also don't agree with Edge putting himself at risk for the ever-shrinking E audience. I worry about his health as much as I do Sting's.
