Him taking that power bomb shocked me as well. It looked as clean a bump as possible. Kudos to both Cage and Sting.

I hope Sting knows what he's doing. By all reports he is not in the best of shape, to put it mildly. What reports? Edge is main eventing Wrestlemania he has had way more neck issues then Sting. Edge even had to have surgery on it because the pain was so bad. While Sting has never had to have surgery. He's rehabbed it and has had no pain at all for years. So if Edge gotten better enough after 8 and half years away from the ring. It's quite possible Sting has as well. Heck Sheamus just pinned WWE Champion on Monday. He missed 8 months rehabbing the same injury in 2019. Thats the the thing, Edge had the surgery to fix it and Edge is still over ten years younger than Sting. Edge had the same surgeries as wrestlers like Lita, Rhyno, S2H, Test, and a list of others in the early 00s had. Austin retired early because of it but thats the thing with Austin there been mix reports but since he retired but look at Austin actions. Austin took the F5 and other bumps over the years. The mix reports have said he can't, other times reports said he could gone two years full time. Other times he said he had no desire to do it again. But then he goes and had a knee surgery and a shoulder surgery out of the blue from nagging injuries. Arn Anderson retired years ago because of nerve problems with his arm but for the years to this day, he still throwing out spinbusters and taken some bumps. Sting situation nobody knows but Sting and his doctors. If Sting himself says its ok, hard to say otherwise because we don't know what he done since 2015 and what kind of rehab and ext he done. I mean he about to be 62 so it not like he has to do what he doing but if he feels like he got something to prove to whoever, I always felt Sting knows what he is doing. I hope this is another one of the cases. I like to believe he smart enough to know what his limits are and that he is listening what his doctors are telling him over the years.

I hope Sting knows what he's doing. By all reports he is not in the best of shape, to put it mildly. That's the thing, even if he was in perfect shape and didn't have years of wear and tear on his body, I still don't think a 61 year old person should be taking powerbombs, or any bumps really. I always cringed when Vince in his later years would take bumps and of course the Mae Young/Dudley stuff. Where do you draw the line? If a 65 year old is still able to walk do we let them take moves? 70? 75? You don't miraculously "recover" from spinal stenosis. It's a permanent condition. You can do your best to manage it but it doesn't go away and there's always a high risk of having bad episodes with it for the average person, let alone a wrestler taking bumps on their back. I'm honestly shocked that a doctor somewhere has seemingly cleared him to get physical. I thought for sure he would do a cinematic match and wouldn't take any real hits. Yeah the age is really the worrisome thing if he’s going to be taking powerbombs and bumping for 30 years olds. Sting is the same age pretty much as Ric Flair in his last match (in TNA). That being said, the kid in me is certainly excited to see a Sting match. A little scary though.

I hate this old man shaming some people do. Let the wrestler and their doctors decide whats right. Lou Thesz worked Masa Chono when he was 74. The Sheik, Dory Funk Jr., Antonio Inoki, Jerry Lawler, Rock n Roll Express, Haku, all old, all working or worked older. Stop gatekeeping. Older people are humans too, and can get over injuries and still work matches if they're fit. Don't use internet reports to justify ageism. It’s not shaming at all. Have you never had an older relative that you’ve had to tell to slow down because you were worried they were overdoing it? Even just basic stuff like trying to lift something a little too heavy for them. Now multiply that by 100 when it’s a 60+ pro wrestler putting their body on the line. Now multiply it by 1000 when it’s a wrestler who already had a huge health scare 6 years ago and is obviously even older now. Wrestling is a dangerous sport. One freak/bad bump can end in tragedy for anyone of any age but when you’re dealing with people in their 50s and 60s there’s a MUCH greater risk of something going wrong. That’s not shaming. That’s human physics. Sting can do what we wants. He’s obviously willing to take the risk but people don’t have to be happy about it. As a fan I personally dread watching matches with older, broken down guys like this. Do you have any idea the pain Terry Funk is in daily because he didn’t know when to stop? Undertaker’s last matches were a sad sight and he was clearly in pain as was Ric Flair in his TNA run and Misawa’s last few years and they were all younger than Sting is now and didn’t have spinal stenosis. It’s not like there should be some set in stone rule like, “hey grandpa, you turned 50, no more matches for you!” Everything is a case for case basis but surely common sense has to come into play at some point and we accept that 60 or 70 year olds having professional wrestling matches isn’t a smart thing to do. Ageism is prejudice or discrimination against a particular age-group and especially the elderly. If there is no set in stone rule, then you're literally just being ageist. Terry Funk and Sting wrestled very differently, in different promotions, and in different quantities. Has Sting shown you that he's in pain wrestling matches like the Undertaker, or is this simply based on Sting's age? It's a worked environment, and wrestling an unsafe worker like Seth Rollins versus taking one bump and then a cinematic match is a different situation. All you're telling me that he is of a certain age, and therefore shouldn't be working. That's ageism. Ageism is the stereotyping and discrimination against individuals or groups on the basis of their age. Ageism can take many forms, including prejudicial attitudes, discriminatory practices, or institutional policies and practices that perpetuate stereotypical beliefs. That's the World Health Organization's definition, and if Sting feels he can work, and his doctors feel he can work, then why do ageists on the internet get to cite examples that have nothing to do with him to justify their prejudice against older people? I know you don't think you're being ageist, and you're showing realistic concern for someone, but you are doing the "hey grandpa, you turned 50, no more matches for you". And don't say it's because he was injured by Rollins, because every person is different, and people can get over injuries at different ages. Let Sting decide what he can do, and not your beliefs that older people shouldn't be in the ring.

No need to grandstand and shoehorn in some discrimination angle to make people look bad.

Aside from the surprise of the bump, his punches looked good too. I guess that’s one of those things you don’t lose. Bret was still doing good punches against Heath Slater in 2010.

I get the concern really, and I ain't gonna make it a big thing about age too, but I do think it'll be the same as others like Edge and Bryan, he's gonna have to take a few bumps, so people aren't as scared. I'm pretty sure he knew that taking this bump, and also I'm sure he didn't want to act like no one could touch him, which is how the storyline had felt so far. If Sting handpicked Cage to powerbomb him, it's more a compliment to Cage than anything. Dude must be really good to work with. There have been spots where it looked like he's killed Darby, but Lesnar was the same way... but apparently he was like working a Teddy Bear. When Cage powerbombed Darby on the stage with thumbtacks, that was reporedly a really safe spot and Darby was completely unharmed, yet it looked horrifying. I think being worried or concerned is warranted, but I also don't have reason to believe Sting doesn't know his own limitations, same with his doctors and everyone around him. It was a moment that got everyone talking and moved a feud that was stuck way too much in one gear to the next. Darby got drug by a car, Sting took his first bump, Team Taz look like threats again in time for the street fight, and now The Icon and The Half-Dead Daredevil have to respond.

Hey I love Sting and would love to see him in all these dream matches. And sure, you would hope that he has been thoroughly cleared by multiple doctors given his age and his injury history. But I really don’t think you can compare to Bryan and Edge who are in their physical primes, body-wise and shape-wise, to someone who is eligible to collect Social Security next month. Sting does have less wear and tear on him due to the way his career played out so maybe that will help him.

There's no surgery to fix it. Other wise Edge would have came back a lot sooner. He had multiple surgeries because he was in lots of pain. Infact according to Meltzer a few years ago. It's even more dangerous to wrestle after you have the surgery. Sting pain or issues with this never got to that point.

Obviously you wonder how Sting's turnaround is at his age, yes, but at the same time I'm not expecting Sting to do a bunch of crazy shit that isn't in a cinematic. Sting should be able to take plenty of moves that don't even touch his back, including taking a lot of highspots while he's laying in the ring, etc. I think Multi-Man matches will be his bread and butter because he won't have to heavy lift, and luckily AEW specializes in them. We'll basically see what Sting has and can do in the coming months. Things he can safely seem to do is take a Powerbomb every now and again, which is more than some expected.

Sting in great physical shape for his age and better then say Lawler or Flair where 10 years ago. As for his neck we see Edge wrestling now with way way way worst neck issues then Sting ever had. So of Edge neck is ok enough to be wrestling. I dunno why it's that hard to think that Sting is now too. Yes Sting older but Edge neck issues out weigh the age difference big time. If Sting was 50 people would be more ok with it. But if he's clear from a top doctor to take certain bombs. Well then he's clear.

Sting(who's never has neck surgery) likely had better chance of getting clear to wrestle again then Edge could have. Yet Edge is wrestling matches now.

Can you source what you’re saying about how bad Edge’s neck currently is? He’s had surgeries to repair it and worked hard to rehab it. Him having multiple surgeries doesn’t necessarily mean it’s in worse shape. He wouldn’t be cleared by WWE if it was like an 80 year old wrestling.

I'd be equally concerned if someone in their thirties suffering from Sting's condition was taking powerbombs (according to multiple wrestlers one of the most dangerous routine moves in wrestling). While I love AEW they are not perfect. Need I remind people this is the same company that allowed Matt Hardy to wrestle after taking a sick botch and while he was out on his feet so I'm a bit skeptical of their medical staff (as I am of most wrestling companies).

That power bomb gave me a light heart attack. I think I actually said out loud don’t you do it Cage! If he’s doing stuff like this he’s def good to go health wise. Offense didn’t look super rusty either. Need him to hit slap the scorpion on somebody soon.

Wrestling doctors ain't worth shit I just hope Sting does what he wants and makes it out of this match with no injuries. No real desire to see him taking bumps Thats just it, He doing what he wants. Nobody held a gun to his head to sign with AEW in the first place. There are things he wanted to and that why he signed. The guy has millions in the bank or he should being he was a top player all his career in major wrestling companies for the last 30 years plus. The guy was never known to live a lavish live style like a Flair has. He here now because he wants to be and clearly wants to end his career on a better note. I'm not expecting to see the Sting of old but the guy always seem to take pre good care of himself. As lonbg he can do his man spots which outside the Scorpion Death Drop, are all non back bump moves. If he can take a powerbomb, even that move isn't out of the question but I sure limit how many times he does it.
