This is the (pun intended?) biggest signing AEW has had. Big Show is probably one of the top 10 most recognizable wrestlers in the world, and has crossover appeal that very few other pro wrestlers do. This signing is the first one where it doesn't feel like AEW just poached someone who was actively clamoring to leave WWE, and it really goes a long way toward establishing that AEW is moving rapidly toward being on equal footing with WWE. Most of the guys who have "jumped" before this are guys who felt like they "fit" better into AEW's product (Moxley, FTR, etc...) Big Show is decidedly not that. He's a sports entertainer through and through.
I am really excited to see what a rejuvenated Big Show with more creative freedom can bring to the table for AEW. Yeah, he's been a Local Man for well over a decade, but he's still, on balance, at least a Top 3 big man in the history of wrestling. It's going to be great to see him in my favorite company.

It's interesting that they're outright announcing that he's here to do commentary on a new Youtube show. Seems like an interesting way to put eyes on a show that'll mostly be populated by the likes of Baron Black, KiLynn King, the Infantry, and Alex Gracia. It's also a decent way to head off any expectation that he's here for big matches except maybe a one-off now and again.

I didn't know he did so much Special Olympics and Make-A-Wish charity work. Seems like a legit nice guy.

Well, okay. My first thought on seeing the thread title was just some amusingly-named jobber or something, not the real deal.
... Admittedly I can't claim to be all that interested in what becomes of it.

Not sure what Show has left in the tank as a wrestler, but his institutional knowledge as a big man will be hugely important for folks like Wardlow, Luchasaurus, etc. His experience along with Sting, Jake Roberts, Tully, Arn, Taz, etc. all focused on helping the young talent is awesome for the future of AEW and the business.

I didn't know he did so much Special Olympics and Make-A-Wish charity work. Seems like a legit nice guy. Every interview he done being more himself he came off as a nice guy and funny. Watching him on stuff like the Major brother Wrestling figs Youtube a while back. He seemed so cool. Honestly didn't expect to wake up to see that he jumped. I felt he was about to finish up his career and retire. Be in the WWE HOF in the next couple of years. Yet here we are.

for all the people saying how glad show got signed.. "wasn't he called the local man here for years? Being fair that was much less on him as a talent and more on them consistently being absolutely awful at booking him. He's a guy made to be a lovable face and they kept booking him as a buzzkill heel.

He’s just going to re-sign with WWE, next week.

It's attention grabbing, and I'm sure he'll be valuable as a mentor for the younger talent, but the amount of talent they already have to showcase makes him feel superfluous as an onscreen talent.
Dark had like, 40 people featured last night and a ton of multi-person matches featuring some future stars. Sacrificing their screen time for the sake of a guy who's well past his prime and honestly was never that great in the first place feels like a mistake.

for all the people saying how glad show got signed.. "wasn't he called the local man here for years? I'm glad he got signed because it's good he gets what he wants and it's less of him on my TV lol. Anytime he's in AEW I'm not interested. Like, Meltzer just said on Twitter that dude is also gonna wrestle. When I tell you that made me say "aight, what anime am I gonna catch up on" after reading that I'm not lying lol. I'm glad he's making that money and I'm glad I get to see him less. That's a W for me.

But they won't be sacrificing those guys for the sake of Show. He's coming in as a commentator. Of course He's gonna wrestle, but I see no way that he's gonna be full time. Even if he is, it'll be more of a Billy Gunn spot than a Moxley spot.

Commentary or a backstage role?
Great.
Actually wrestling in 2021 or beyond?
Horrible idea that would literally make me change the channel and have less faith in AEW as a company.

Given where the name The Big Show came from, they should name him Ultra Sizeable Arrangement.
