I feel like tonight was an emperor has no clothes moment for this angle. For all its length and bluster, there isn't a whole lot of substance outside of one guy holding all the belts forever and being really really cool/getting Jinder Mahal finishes. If it's all going somewhere like a big face win, it would've maybe been worth all of it. But now it's like "nope this is all there is to it. just misery." Yeah, we're passed the big face win... they've had multiple chances to get the big face wins... including the best story basically falling into their lap with Cody... but nope... Roman's gotta win... cause... ... he's Roman

Man, if the only reason they did this was so Roman could hold it for 1000 days then that's just hilariously lame and childish.

The whole "FINISH THE STORY" thing feels like you reading an awesome book and you can see the ending in your head, and then the main character's friends all die and he gets his arms cut off like three quarters in and he looks directly at the fourth wall and says "But the story isn't over yet, keep reading!"
Like why would I want to? Lol

They don't even have clever finishes anymore. The Drew/Sami/Cody finishes have sucked ass. If you're going to put Roman over, actually put him over. It's extending something for the sake of extending it.

I posted in the Triple H booking thread where he was quoted in the post show PC that the narrative is about finishing the story and that Cody's story is just beginning.
Here's the issue with that, throughout WWE's history, Wrestlemania is where a story of chase ends and the new story begins. WWE has spent most of their history making sure people realized that Mania was the most important date. So even if Cody's story does continue and he wins the title, it's unlikely you'll ever get the moment to crown him like you did today. Just like with Sami being insanely over, there won't be another moment where you could crown him like in Montreal. Doesn't mean there won't be a pop if/when the title change happens but you missed a chance at a truly special moment.

I’ve been saying this for years now. They turned Roman. People start accepting him. They’ve convinced people this is building to something. It’s not.
They wanted him to be the guy. He is. It’s not for anyone else. They got their stubborn way to make Roman feel like the man. He’s been the main event in WM for so long, and really has delivered 1/3 of the time?

Because it's supposed to be the END of the stories not the middle... AFter the Superbowl the losers don't get another game a month later to prove who actually wins! In fact, the next time the winner and loser meet it might be mentioned but it's completely unrelated to the Superbowl game. I'm also all for not saving things FOR mania as I think that's one of WWE's biggest problems recently. But the stories going into mania should end at Mania.

At least the Bloodline is cool. The OG HHH reign of terror had a lot of the same match shenanigans AND HHH would start every show with a boring 20 minute monologue about nothing before neverending heat.

I mean, it is leading to something; him becoming the longest reign champion of the modern era. Which’ll mean a lot, I’m sure, when he loses to highly popular and credible main eventer…*checks notes, looking up and down a list with most of the names scratched off*…Otis?

For me whatever coolness is killed by hitting the same 2.5 story beats for a guy who can barely be assed to show up once every three weeks despite holding both world titles. And OG Reign of Terror was like. 2/3rds the timeframe of this by the time it ended, and . And HHH actually lost matches. and had actual good matches(I cannot believe I'm defending the f***ing Reign of Terror what have I become *judas plays*)

WWE has missed a few times over the year of striking when the iron is hot because it would ruin Mania plans. Hell, I think the only reason people were fine with them not pivoting to Sami was because of Cody's story (which I personally thought was a mistake but that's another story) but... yeah they clearly built a perception around this being Cody's crowning moment... honestly to the point it was so over done I knew it wasn't happening because subtly has never been a strength for WWE.

I think it’s hard to quantify how bad this feels. Let me, without being dramatic, explain: I had friends over at my place for two nights of food and fun and WrestleMania. We ended night one buzzed but happy. At the end of night two, my friends headed out announcing they were done with the product until Roman lost - no more events or watches until after he dropped. So even though it’s not my fault, I’m sitting here depressed that something that started so well has ended so horribly.
That’s how bad it is, folks. One result turned we can’t wait to watch to we are not watching until there is a change.

Yeah this is an issue I've had with Mania for awhile. It's supposed to be the show where shit ends, and new beginnings happen... and for years now? It's not that, it feels like a giant stop gap where they're trying to force people to keep watching because "IT'S NOT OVER YET!"
Issue is, all it's resulted in is complete and total apathy to end your biggest show with the most eyes, and stats have shown, a lot of people do not tune in to see what's next, they tune into Mania because they want to see stuff END, and then it doesn't, and you give them a reason not to tune in.
People were legitimately watching tonight to see if Roman lost, and when he didn't, many people went "Well maybe see you next year, or maybe never again", you can't keep acting like WrestleMania is f***ing Elimination Chamber with more bells and whistles in terms of how you book the show. Night 1 was really well done, Night 2 felt like nothing got accomplished and more of the same is to be expected, especially in the main event scene
One step forward, ten steps back.

I'm starting to think the only way this ends is if the crowds turn on Roman again.

It's extending something for the sake of extending it. Roman and The Bloodline's match booking have officially become like peak Bullet Club and House of Torture energy Or Jinder's reign where every single ending was "The Singh Brothers interfere, faces beat them up, and immediately get hooked in The Colass and lose"

It’s kind of caught up in Roman being the worst case of it but Gunther and Bianca’s reigns continuing were also total bullshit and for the same reason. All the company cares about is how record-breaking everything is.
