All that said, strapping up Big Lash was the smart idea. Because if Drew is still in the mix for the WWE title at Mania (as he should be), he is a far more dangerous threat storyline wise than Miz, who isn’t quite a joke in the canon.

Miz was like Bobby in that King of the Hill episode where he becomes the school mascot, then learns that the mascot gets a beating by the rival team and gets scared and runs away from the beating, embarrassing everyone. He then learns he's gotta just toughen up to take the beating. (Well OK I don't know if Miz necessarily learned that last part the same way as Bobby but still)

As someone who wasn’t a big fan during his initial big push back in the day, it was a pretty cool moment. The MVP partnership has really paid off big time, dude really just comes off as a major badass.
Gotta say though, the two bait and switches were dumb as hell. I tapped out for the night after they put that stupid clock up there for a third time. I was actually expecting some more shenanigans to stretch the thing out until Fastlane.

I feel like Backlund had more credibility than Miz had. At least Backlund could fight the world champ to some form of stalemate, even though his win was dubious. Just thinking about it, I genuinely can't think of another world champion WWE has presented as weak as they did with this Miz reign. Are we saying that Lashley & Drew didn’t look strong last night? Miz was never supposed to look strong. Mania is for giving the babyface the victorious moment. Drew’s moment last year was subdued. If Lashley spends the next 5 weeks destroying everything & Drew beats him at Mania, that’s the story they want to tell here. Miz as champion will be forgotten next week as he starts feuding with Bad Bunny again. Backlund had Bret Hart in the crossface chickenwing for 8 minutes when he won the belt while Owen tricked their mother into throwing in the towel on Bret. That match continued the best brother vs brother feud I’ve ever seen, and for his trouble, Backlund ended up getting squashed by Kevin Nash immediately after. They made Nash look like he was the baddest man on the planet letting him destroy the vicious heel Backlund. Lashley looks no more stronger, nor weaker, for beating Miz than those few weeks he spent beating up Matt Riddle. I don’t know what else to tell you.

So Lashley is the third Black WWE champ after Rock and Kofi. Was there a black World Heavyweight champ besides Booker?

I figured there was a strong possibilityof anon finish last night, too, but that changed after the 1st false start. I didn't think there was any chance of them postponing the match AND not doing the title switch on the same show.

Good job by Miz getting himself in memorable situations during his title reigns.

Glad they haven't overdone the chickenshit heel run on this occasion as I thought this might run well past WM and eventually stink the place out. This is the right decision, and he doesn't feel out of place at all. Good booking (for once!).

Yep, just looked it up. Still just 5 black champs in all that time. One could be generous and include Ezekiel Jackson winning the ECW title.

What's the point of Miz, whose current gimmick is that he sucks, and everyone knows he sucks, getting the belt as a go between, when the most direct route would be the most effective? Because I don’t think that’s supposed to be Miz’s gimmick. It’s more like Honky Tonk Man, where he’ll lose a fair fight against the babyface in the end, but can still get the heat after cheating, can squash a jobber and can beat down other wrestlers (the dude is obviously no monster, but he was booked to kill Cena for a few weeks prior to Mania 27) and pin them with a SCF. Honky was able to get Hogan to sell heavily for him, I recall. Now *Ellsworth*, that felt more like a character who is meant to be mismatched in every fight. Same with Enzo to a degree. You're talking abut an angle 10 years ago, he's nowhere near the credibility level he was back then. It's irrelevant to now. Like, Drew reacts to Miz being the champion as if it's inconceivable. They didn't even act so divisively to actual jobber Jinder Mahal getting a title shot. Plus the guy can't win on his own, and hasn't even been booked to be a legitimate threat to even the Lucha House Party. He's pretty much been a jobber, not even a jobber to the stars, he's basically been a jobber with mic time. No one gets any credibility from beating him anymore, and more than anything else he's presented as a guy who everyone actively treats as if is an insignificant bug. I'd be willing to put money on the fact they've never presented another world champion as being so weak.

The guy is made champion in the most dominant fashion possible and he isn't "no more stronger" then he was before he was champion
I don't get it

In hindsight, you might have been better off just giving the briefcase to Lashley last year and built him up for the Drew match at Mania then.
Otis looks like a complete dork now and Miz looks an incompetent buffoon who got lucky.
