Even Sting vs Abyss was better than Sting vs HHH.

Sting v Triple H is one of the biggest contrasts I've ever seen between live and online fans. I know someone who was there who says it was the most hype match of the night and the crowd loved it then he checked his phone after the match/show and saw that everyone else hated it.
The NWO/DX thing made no sense but I'd probably have popped if I was there too.

Lies! Lies and propaganda!
I honestly have no beef with someone preferring the HHH vs Sting match since we’re allowed to have our own opinions and all that.
But...
f*** HHH vs Sting. It’s the match that turned me off to WWE for a long time. I don’t care that Sting wanted to lose. It was his big WrestleMania debut and Sting played second fiddle to Authority vs Rock and Ronda Rousey...you know, the monster match they had to plant the seeds for and it NEVER HAPPENED. Also...this has nothing to do with WWE vs WCW but OH MY GOD it’s DX vs the NWO!!!!! Monday Night Wars ya’ll!!!!!!!

Man, I remember being so excited for that match. Sting was one of my all time favorites as a kid. And when he went to WWE I was legit excited. Then the build up was so wonky. Remember when they did the promo package for him with a voice that didn’t sound like him? Then the match happened. And as a match, I don’t think it was THAT bad. Sting could still go. But it was one those matches where if they just let him win, people wouldn’t have hated it so much. But since Triple H won, it soured me so much. So right off the bat AEW has treated Sting better than anything WWE did for him.

It would have been one thing if the Authority saw HHH as being weak and turned on him but that’s not what happened. They just kept rolling along. It’d be like Sting shaking Hogan’s hand at Starrcade after their match. Neither man showed any remorse for the bullshit they’d been doing.

I thought it was a very cool looking match.
What a great place AEW is for Sting to end his career working with the younger wrestlers in very WCW-esque show!

Late to this but f*** Sting vs HHH. One of the worst matches in wrestling history. I could write a book about it, but what an insult to wrestling history, and what a master... selfish match, finish, and call by JBL. Garbage. This Street Fight match was a 100 times better. Ron Garvin versus Greg Valentine was a 100 times better then Sting vs. HHH.

But the match itself was very good and fun, Sting wanted to lose and they had to sledgehammer him to do it (kept him strong for if he did wrestle again). I think it was about as good of a one-on-one match you were going to get out of Sting at that point in his career. The Street Fight at Revolution was good too and given his age, is probably the best Way to present Sting going forward.

The biggest problem with the match was the entire story building up to it was that Sting had come to stop the corrupt Authority, and then the actual match the story suddenly changed to WWF/DX vs WCW/NWO out of nowhere, then Triple H cheated to win, Sting shook his hand, and the Authority continued to be corrupt and evil and Sting just didn’t care anymore I guess.
It made absolutely no sense and threw away the entire story for the sake of nostalgia pops. It’s one of the biggest symptoms of WWE’s obsession with “moments” hurting their product I can think of.
