He got booed pretty badly on the PPV and I think people are seeing through the Nightmare Family concept.
I mean I don't have anything against QT Marshall, but he has been featured more on AEW TV than Christopher Daniels. That is just absurd. If you are picking a veteran to put over younger talent, why would you choose the guy with a fraction of the TV exposer?
Everyone also knows Cody is a booker, which is essentially putting him in the same spot Triple H and Double J were in the 2000's with TNA and The Reign of Terror.
They should just embrace heel Cody. He's really good at it, so just go with it

Daniels is a poor example since he's gonna be getting a tag title match soon with Kaz. But QT isn't a bad worker and him becoming this sorta rookie crusher vet who thinks he's so awesome because he's a trainer is a great role for him.
As much as a Heel Cody or at least a break for Cody woul be good, can we also STOP with comparing Cody to TNA Jarrett and Reign of Terror HHH? We already had one thread where we called this comparison stupid and unwarranted and now we're spinning around in circles. Stop trying to make it happen.

Honestly he's just lame as hell at this point. He kind of just drifts from feud to feud, never really doing anything of overall consequence and for some reason basically being a main-eventer who never interacts with other main-eventers. Turning heel and ditching the stupid no title shots thing would help him tremendously.
It doesn't really help that Cody's big strength is big deeply personal conflicts that climax in big, bloody brawls and the last one of those he really had was Brodie which was like six months ago and was overall a pretty rushed story. It's been awhile since he's been in his element.
Also get rid of the stupid choir. An entrance doesn't need two big attention-grabbing intros.

He absolutely f***ed himself by that stupid stipulation about the title match.
It's not that he needs the belt or that the belt is anything more than a prop, but the belt is a signifier of what you're aiming for. As his own father once told DDP: "If you don't want to be the champion, why are you here?"
If I'm supposed to buy the kayfabe, which is sort of the point of pro-wrestling, why would you ever care about a team that literally will never reach the superbowl because it's in their contract?
Otherwise, it's just Cody doing Memphis-style soap opera 'rasslin, which is good but needs to be dosed out.

I agree he should turn heel at some point. Now isn’t really the time to do it because I think if he did it now he’d be lost in the shuffle being the third or fourth ranked heel. I would like to see him take time off and come back as a heel down the line.
I also agree with the fact that he is NO WHERE CLOSE to being as bad as Triple H or Jeff Jarrett. I’m also seriously tired of that argument.

I really like Cody as a wrestler, but he's definitely overexposed.
It feels like he's inserted into everything.
Sting debuts? There's Cody. Mike Tyson shows up? Cody is involved. Shaq? Put him with Cody. The throne breaking thing. And don't get me started on the gender reveal pyro.
Then all of the gratuitous entrances, and the TNT title matches last year with the dramatic hugs at the end.
I know it sounds like I'm hating on the guy, but I really do like Cody, I just feel like everything with him has to overshadow everything else on the show.

Doesnt (Can't) go after title but will always have something major to do. I love me some memphis style nonsense. (My favorite show is impact) it feels like Cody has three things going on sometimes, all with some over the top drama. Yet other guys its a big storyline beat if their seen sitting in the crowd. Give other guys things to do and maybe you wouldn't have relay on Cody so much. Omega and Bucks are champions yet the same time you would never know they are EVPs.

I kind of wonder if the Nightmare Family might be part of it because the Nightmare Family might be the lamest f***ing stable to ever exist. It's a dumb name, they have basically nothing identifiable about them as a group, and I have no idea why on earth you're supposed to care about them at all.

When Cody finally goes full blown heel, it will involve him going back on his word, and he'll challenge for the world title. It's what heels do folks.

It doesn't help that he's leaned into subtle heeldom via his entrance at times and the Shaq feud was so dubiously done it was hard to even remember what they were even fighting about.
Its a shame because Cody was relatively well utilized in the first year or so of Dynamite, especially in his program with MJF. But ever since the Brodie Lee feud he just feels like a guy who's hypothetically important but not terribly interesting.

Ever since Cody lost the TNT title he hasn't really had a direction or defined character. It's like he just turns up and does whatever he wants each week.
Cody is still one of the best AEW has for telling a story in the ring, he just doesn't seem to know what story he wants to tell anymore.

Its a shame because Cody was relatively well utilized in the first year or so of Dynamite, especially in his program with MJF. I have such mixed opinions on that feud. The month or so leading up to their match was fantastic, match itself was pretty good, but there was also the about three solid months before that where nothing whatsoever happened, and it made Cody look like a complete chump that he's at no point tried any further at getting his revenge.

It's weird, I was really excited for a Team Taz vs Cody/Nightmare family feud. I thought they were gonna build that post Taz's attack on Cody. Had the chance to see the FTW Title be more than an ornament, revenge for Hook's betrayal of the Nightmare Factory, and some exciting matches like Starks vs Cody 2. Then the whole Shaq feud derailed that. The Shaq feud had a great ending, but took away what seemed like a really good gang warfare feud.

Maybe this is the answer to that other thread about what Team Taz should be doing next.

Cody was great until that neck tattoo. Right after Revolution, we hit the exhausted Covid tapings where the talent was spread thin and they taped a ton of content in one day. Then he had the TNT reign that was fun, but aimless until Brodie squashed him. He came back a month later to win it back to drop it to Darby, teased reigniting the MJF feud only to be derailed by Jade and later Shaq. And that was a slog to get through.
He seems to be back on track with Penta, but it's too early to tell.
