I have never enjoyed a combo of announcers more. Maybe Jim Ross and Jim Cornette on WCW Saturday Night in 1989, but this is the happiest an announcing duo makes me ever. The jokes, the guests, Excaliber f'ing with Taz, Negative One messing with Excaliber. It's relaxed, it's funny, it's just one to two hours of wholesome entertainment. I hope this never ends.

Hands down my favorite commentary duo currently in wrestling. Which isn't a knock to the likes of Shiavone, but man they are perfect together.

It feels like two dudes shooting the shit together, while also knowing exactly what's going on. It's a much more relaxed approach that stands out because it's something you don't see in a lot of promotions.

I think my favorite moment was Excalibur on last week's Dark.
"Ya know Anthony, Taz used to work for Long Island Railroad a long time ago. But he left that job to pursue his dream!
Unfortunately that dream was to be a professional chef."

They make for very odd commentary, partly because Dark is, at this point, a very weird environment.
Taz in particular just sort of breaks every rule of commentary without compromising the integrity of the show. He alternates between extremely technical commentary that veers into coaching the greener wrestlers for when they watch their matches back; going on ridiculous tangents; gloating in character; and just plain saying the first thing that comes to his mind from random details.
Excalibur more or less keeps things on track, but the combination of exhaustion and playing off Taz leads him down very weird paths. The fact that Excalibur gets to basically always win the argument with Taz is what mostly makes it work.
It's also not the most new viewer friendly approach, but Dark is mostly booked with the expectation that only the hardcores are watching, anyway.

The weirdest comparison I can make, in regards to another commentary team, would be Dave Prazak and Sarah Shockey in Black Label Pro. Shockey, while being a fan, is clearly not the most well informed commentator in the business. However, Prazak mostly makes up for the two of them, and the fact that they're both joking around and having fun calling the show makes it a little bit more enjoyable overall.

It makes me so happy when they make each other like full on snort laugh.

Excalibur explaining to negative 1 to use the talkback button to berate Tony Khan during the main event this week was magical.

Excalibur explaining to negative 1 to use the talkback button to berate Tony Khan during the main event this week was magical. And then the Cherry on top "That's not Tony Khan talking to me, I just wanna let the people know"

I don't have much to add, but Taz was one of my favorite commentators during the Ruthless Agression era, then he just went downhill and fast near the end of his run and during that awful TNA run. I'm so glad to see him completely turn it around.

Excalibur is the best commentator anywhere right now. He's like a good version of Matt Striker, he's super well informed, super hyped to be there, he can slip his jokes in without taking away from the action AND his jokes actually land more often than they don't.

I just wish that just once Excalibur would drop the line "Excalibur and Taz here at the commentary booth shaped like a table."
