Bad, bad number. No other way to slice it, AEW should never be getting in the .2s for the demo. They have to figure out how to get their younger crowd back...and the easiest way is to start touring again. Will be curious to see the quarters broken down. The women have not drawn great historically. It was an amazing match last night but who knows. Maybe they can get a good bump next week due to word of mouth.
NXT continues to be a dead brand. They’re down in the demo from last year this week...and last year was a clip show.

I wouldn't read too much into this honestly. It was unproven commodities in the main event and the rest of the show had leaked. I think seeing how things shake out for them moving forward will be more interesting given how much the match has blown up in the aftermath of people seeing it.

The #6 for the night is pretty good, and I lean on thinking that the placement in the night is more important than the total numbers - after all, that placement has some relation to the overall context in a way that the raw number doesn't necessarily capture. Shame that the demo went down, thought.

It's not great by any means. The quarters will tell the story. RAW had weird hours because of Daylight Savings. If the show started out low and built, that would make sense and help them have some momentum for next week. Cable seemed down as a whole. If that becomes the average number, that will be a bad sign so hopefully it ends up being a one off. We'll also see in four weeks what going unopposed does for them.

It’s not doom worthy. But it is not good at all. AEW was pulling a .45 in the demo this winter. They’ve lost a lot of that audience, mostly female. And the loss of women viewership isn’t new to this week, it’s been a steady decline for weeks.
They need to jolt some life into the product.

I actually missed the first hour of AEW this week because of Daily Savings but I live in another country so I dont know if it would be common enough to affect

It's actually a little hard to compare this to the same time last year - it did much worse than this week's comparable show (which did 932,000 and 0.32), but it placed a lot higher in the actual rankings (that one was #20), and it did better in both viewers and the demo than the show the week before.

Numbers were down across the board for everything...at the end of the day, it was St. Patrick's Day and a significant portion of potential viewers in "the demo" were out doing other things.
I hope that all of the positive feedback the main event got carries over into next week.

The year over year comparisons are going to be skewed for a bit. For one, AEW is going to be unopposed soon. And two, we're also about to start comparing current shows to the Georgia tapings/early no crowd Daily's Place shows. Here is what they were doing in 18-49 (AEW on the right, NXT on the left). It wasn't until the fall that .32 became more of their average with the occasional spikes for big shows and occasional dips for nights with heavy competition (often from the news).

The NBA games seemed to do really high, and they were still #3 in the male demo. #6 overall is still solid.

I know people don't want to hear this but I think Khan's "mega, megastar" hype for the Christian signing and the pitiful ring explosion harmed AEW's credibility tremendously in the short-term. There were a lot of new eyeballs on them at Revolution sadly their two biggest hype jobs failed to deliver.

Yeah, the St. Patrick's Day thing probably did play a big part in it too, kind of forgot about that aspect honestly.

Here's how I see it, a few things went against AEW this week. The show was spoiled up to the main event, that always hurts a show, and it was also a Holiday where pandemic restrictions are finally lessening.
They were still 6th overall, and that main event had EVERYONE talking during and after the fact, and may bring a ton of interest to the product.
They almost did 200k more average viewers than what is supposed to be their competition, and they will be as said, unopposed and alone on Wednesday Nights soon as well. So the next few weeks are gonna be interesting to monitor, but things are gonna change soon.
I would not be shocked if the main event got close to a million viewers by the end.

Yeah, and at the end of the day, it’s still in the Top 10 of the night on a holiday which isn’t something to sneeze at, especially with how much TNT’s been backing it. EDIT: I do think sometimes with ratings we ignore the wider picture of things and just see things right away. Like, there’s a reason Raw does well on Mondays; because there’s really nothing else on that day.

There were a lot of new eyeballs on them at Revolution sadly their two biggest hype jobs failed to deliver. Christian being a bad reveal is very subjective considering a lot of positive feedback has generated around him being in the company, and the people upset were a vocal minority pissed it wasn't John Cena or something. Also the ring explosion was still a single moment in a 4 hour PPV, it was dumb but still, how many botches and moments have happened in other companies and they've been fine? AEW can't expect to be perfect or everyone's just gonna stop watching them, that seems ridiculous.
