Who is saying they are dead? On the rare occasion when NXT would beat AEW I'd occasionally post something along those lines, obviously tongue-in-cheek. Not trying to turn that into a strawman argument or anything; apologies if it came off that way. I'm just being ridiculous and hyperbolic because of work boredom.

Thunder Rosa vs Britt Baker in a Lights Out Match isn't a draw.
It will be in the future but when you start featuring the piss break division that couldn't get an entire tournament on the show, it's going to take a while for quantity of viewers to equal quality of matches, and it requires prominently featured matches like that one. I wasn't expecting anything above 800k.

It's St Patrick's Day. In spite of a pandemic, people aren't going to let that stop them being drunken idiots.

It was taped beforehand and airing on a Holiday, not to mention it's an increase from last weeks' rating. I'd call it a win.

Numbers were down across the board for everything...at the end of the day, it was St. Patrick's Day and a significant portion of potential viewers in "the demo" were out doing other things. I hope that all of the positive feedback the main event got carries over into next week. Yeah, and at the end of the day, it’s still in the Top 10 of the night on a holiday which isn’t something to sneeze at, especially with how much TNT’s been backing it. EDIT: I do think sometimes with ratings we ignore the wider picture of things and just see things right away. Like, there’s a reason Raw does well on Mondays; because there’s really nothing else on that day. I completely agree. RAW also does well on Mondays, because its been entrenched in that slot for nearly three decades, and people watch out of habit/nostalgia as much as out of enjoyment. Any attempt to compare RAW to Dynamite is an apples to oranges comparison...any similarity between the two shows begins and ends with the fact that they're both pro wrestling shows. People also tend to egregiously overemphasize the "casual fan" as the primary metric of success for a wrestling company when, in 2021, I'm not even entirely certain a "casual" wrestling fan exists. Wrestling is a niche form of entertainment, and if it's not something you actively enjoy, at least a little, there are a billion different other entertainment options available literally at your fingertips. AEW is healthy and sustainable as a company if it brings in 750K-900K viewers each week and continues to be Top 10 in the demo. As fans, I'm not sure we should even want much more than that - after all, pandering to non-fans trying to attract that white whale "casual" viewer at the expense of actual wrestling fans is one of the primary reasons WCW went under.

The women have been some of the top drawing matches the last few weeks, and I'm not including Jade and Velvet in the Shaq match I'm talking since the women's Tournament has started, so this isn't exactly a fruitful argument to have. Theyve basically been doing much better since they've been taken out of the same quarter spot, yeah it'll take time but I also don't think the girls are the reason this show didn't get a massive number. The girls are the reason people are really talking about this show period.

I have a feeling a combination of daylight savings time/holiday had a part to play in the lower ratings. Hell, I know quite a few people on here came in an hour late because of daylight savings.

Which, let's be honest, is the most Lizuka reason for missing part of a show. Besides possibly a Danganronpa re-play.

I've owned it for ages but my initial attempt to play it stalled out at the start of chapter 3. I'd been thinking about restarting it for awhile and Pyra & Mythra's announcement motivated me to do so. Presently in chapter 5 but mostly sidequesting.

I feel like one of the reasons I like FAN so much is I dont think any other place would start out as a ratings discussion and eventually hard pivot into Xenoblade Discussion, and it's all the better for it

Gotta also remember it was St Patty's day and a lot of areas in the US have eased restrictions on bars so that played a part too

I hope TNT executives dont blame it on the women division and never get 2 women matches on the show again.
Gut feeling is that viewership went downhill after Penta vs Cody.

That's a trend AEW's dealt with for awhile now, and NXT for that matter. Main Events seeing the highest viewership of a show these days is rare anymore. I hope by the end of the show the women's match saw a big uptick in viewers considering how crazy it got. We'll know tomorrow. That being said, it shouldn't turn TNT off considering all the press it got them online. People were talking about this match everywhere. If it didn't do something in the immediate, it did something for them in the aftermath, because people have done nothing but praise it, and say this could be where the women's division takes the next step.

I know people don't want to hear this but I think Khan's "mega, megastar" hype for the Christian signing and the pitiful ring explosion harmed AEW's credibility tremendously in the short-term. There were a lot of new eyeballs on them at Revolution sadly their two biggest hype jobs failed to deliver. Christian being a bad reveal is very subjective considering a lot of positive feedback has generated around him being in the company, and the people upset were a vocal minority pissed it wasn't John Cena or something. Also the ring explosion was still a single moment in a 4 hour PPV, it was dumb but still, how many botches and moments have happened in other companies and they've been fine? AEW can't expect to be perfect or everyone's just gonna stop watching them, that seems ridiculous. Plus the WWE have done things that are even stupider over the last couple of weeks and there hasn't been the same backlash; hell the last man standing match at the Royal Rumble was completely botched and the finish was an absolute joke and there wasn't any where near the doom and gloom posting.
