I kinda assumed he planned on having his new group attack the remaining Inner Circle member whether they turned on Jericho or not
If they didn't turn on Jericho, MJF still has the element of surprise on his side so his new faction could run out and beat them up (like what actually happened)
If the rest of the Inner Circle went along with beating up Jericho(/and Sammy?) they would STILL get beat up and then there's the added benefit of knowing they're probably not going to band together to get revenge since they already showed they were willing to turn on one another

One thing I’m wondering is what if rest of the Inner Circle turned on Jericho. Because I feel like even if they did, MJF would have stabbed them in the back too. Because one way of killing the whole group is having them turn on Jericho, thinking MJF is the new leader and then The Pinnacle lay waste to what’s left of the IC. Which would have killed the group. I think that was his plan. He was hoping on turning the whole IC against eachother and then weed out the members that sided with him with his own faction. But since the IC figured out what he was doing, he went straight to plan B.

Also, if MJF got anyone else in the Inner Circle to turn on Jericho, it kills them as a babyface faction in a feud with Pinacle. This is written the way it should be. Why would Hager or P n P turn on Jericho when he gave them a break in AEW and they had so many good times? If they did turn on Jericho, then they're an idiot who doesn't deserve to be cheered as a face. Where would the logic be in anyone in IC turning on Jericho?

Yeah, I think the Pinnacle was MJF's endgame all along, as well as turning on Chris Jericho. Any members of the IC he could get to his side would be an added bonus.
As for how it was these guys specifically? Well, Wardlow is already MJF's hired goon. But besides him, Shawn Spears is probably the guy who can be credited for that. Which is ironic since Spears is seen as the least of the new faction by a lot of fans. MJF and Spears became friends through their early Pandemic era gambling shenanigans. So when MJF comes calling with his idea, Spears is on board, who talks to Tully about it and through Tully, FTR come in.
Interesting note: Hangman Page could've been in this group if FTR and Tully didn't leave him high and dry. Makes me wonder if they were genuinely interested in recruiting him but MJF, seeing him as a potential threat to his shine, told them to dump him.

Meh.
He's a heel, he did heel shit.
This is wrestling. Heels do nonsensical shit all the time. It does often bother me, but this one doesn't. We all knew where this was going, and it went in a mildly different direction to what I expected, so it surpassed my expectations.
I'm willing to find out what the Pinnacle can do, but I think they're still trying to make Shawn 'fetch' Spears happen and I'm not sure it's going to happen

I'm still having trouble figuring out why people so much older than MJF want to be his goon henchmen. They got hired.

In 1985 were people like "I don't understand the Four Horsemen"

In 1985 were people like "I don't understand the Four Horsemen" Or even "I don't understand Evolution" considering HHH was arguably an even bigger egomaniac at that stage of his career than MJF is currently. Heels always think they're above getting turned on and think that becoming a worldbeating faction will be their golden ticket

I'm still having trouble figuring out why people so much older than MJF want to be his goon henchmen. This group is composed of "old school" wrestlers who have always loved the idea of MJF and think he'll bring in tons of money. Also a guy like Tully had always ridden the coat tails of more successful wrestlers.

The more I think about it the more I'm kind of figuring this whole thing has been AEW's, "Set this up for when it looks like we can start setting up Blood & Guts," plan and having to wait as long as they have has just made it a lot more convoluted than it probably was when they started planning it out.

It'll make more sense when it ties into Randy Orton's latest plan to win the Royal Rumble, wait for his current rival to win a world title, and then challenge them at Wrestlemania and say it was his plan all along.

It's amazing how he went through that twice. The Bray one was even dumber though, given it relied on him not just giving the shot to Bray immediately, Bray winning the belt, Orton announcing he was vacating his title shot, and then for no real reason going, "But no actually," and saying he wanted it back which Shane played along with instead of going, "Dude, no, you wasted everyone's time, f*** off," like any real world boss would in that situation.

Don’t forget that before any of this went down MJF said “maybe I’ll start my own group” then a few weeks later ended up doing Inner Circle stuff. This is real long term booking.
