This no doubt runs the risk of sounding like edgelord contrarianism but here we go.
Finally watched Carlito's Way last night. It had been on my watchlist since my teens.
It just felt hollow to me. None of the characters felt especially well formed.
The soundtrack, the vibrant colors and a lot of the madcap action made it feel like a John Hughes movie.
Overall it just felt so corny. And the weird thing is that my favourite De Palma movies verge on B movie cheese (Raising Cain, Blow Out)
I'll have to rewatch Scarface again to see if it recasts my view on this one (it's easily been 20 years since I've seen it)
So, what's a movie that you hyped up for yourself too much?

I still rewatch Carlito’s Way and Scarface pretty often, but I’m a Pacino mark anyway. That and Heat, Dog Day, etc.
I guess for me, Pride of the Yankees is always built up as the quintessential baseball movie, but it’s just okay IMO. I saw it expecting to be blown away, and it was fine and I didn’t dislike it, but it wasn’t earth shattering good. Personally I enjoy The Natural way more.

Some of the recent Star Wars films. some are good, though feel as though they're a whole other franchise.

A lot of recent Pixar movies. Soul was the only one lately that really wowed me.

It took me about 10 years to finally sit down and watch Pulp Fiction, and I was underwhelmed. The famous opening sequence was great, but everything after that was pretty dull. And I like most of Tarantino's other films, so it isn't that.

Fantastic cast who all give great performances, but for whatever reason the movie just doesn't click for me.

Loads of old movies have been ripped off so often they disapoint when I finally see them. Blade Runner is the one that comes to mind.
Not everything though, Casablanca was still great.

I have never really liked Star Wars ROTJ.
It has all the weird things people would go on to dislike Lucas over.
George is very imaginative, but unless he is paired with a great director and really good editors, his movies are pretty disorganized.

Avatar comes to mind if we're including movies we saw when they first came out.
Might be an odd example but between reading a plot synopsis beforehand and years and years of horror movies and death metal lyrics, I didn't really find Salo all that shocking. Kinda silly more than anything else.

Which cut have you seen, because the original version that hasn’t been available since the early-1990’s is the good version. Everything since the 1997 special editions has gotten progressively worse to the point where even I can’t watch it

I didn't see the first two Spider-Man films in theaters and thus watched them on TV. After hearing rave reviews about how they set a new standard for superhero films, I saw them and they were... fine.
I mean they're competently made, acting is on point for the most part, and decent amount of the effects hold up fine. Yet they ended up being far more Silver Age corny than I expected and as solid as Tobey was Parker, I just found the combination of the writing and performance as Spider-Man himself to be a bit lacking. Maybe its because I was used to the snark of the 90s animated series and I generally thought Raimi's sensibilities fit in other projects as opposed to these, but while they're good movies, I just never saw them as the superhero masterpieces that so many others did.

I did not care for the Godfather. But really it's a good movie but I don't think it's in that greatest of all time talk.

Get Out
I found it boring. Nothing scary about it. Took itself too seriously for what is a goofy premise.
Nice forshadowing throughout and good casting though.
The Cabin in the Woods -- clever, but the fact they picked zombies as the main monster made the middle of the film boring. I get it, it was the point playing into cliches. But zombies are too cliche to be interesting as a cliche. The end with the monsters breaking free from the lab was awesome though.

I wish there was a montage or something to show the Basterds earning their reputation.

That's definitely a big part of it. I mean, we can accept that they're as feared as they are based on what we're given, but I'd love to see them doing their thing for a few more scenes.
