I once had a guy convinced at work everything was black and white till the 60s. Not just tv and movies. Like EVERYTHING! ..........................................EVEN CAVE PAINTINGS WERE IN COLOR!!!!!! How can anyone make that kind of mistake?

If the guy thought everything was once black and white, I don't think he knows much about cave paintings.

Like EVERYTHING! ..........................................EVEN CAVE PAINTINGS WERE IN COLOR!!!!!! How can anyone make that kind of mistake? Never doubt the stupidity of the common man. Wish I could remember who I stole that quote from. Think about it we are now in an era where most people have a device on them where they can easily look up anything in less than 5 minutes to find out the truth. But instead of doing that too many people just believe anything they are told. For example I got a few neighbors that believe one of the local grocery stores puts formaldihyde in the meat they sell. All cause one of the local "genius" posted this on FB 5 years ago. Never mind that if this was true you know the store would be shut down. Nope cause they read it they believe it is true. For another example on one of my YT channels I will post short vids of various things in my collection. Just recently I've had 5 people begging me to rip a vhs I posted about and post the rip on Youtube. I was nice told them I can't do that cause of copyright laws. Their replies are all some variantion of "Don't worry I won't tell Youtube." Thanks to smartphones it has become eternal September online now. Use to be you only had that happening each year when college started. Now it is every day.

the amount of hats in that era is scary, like everyone has a hat on pretty much at all times. My mom said that was proper men's attire. Her dad always wore a hat, as did other men at the time. The hat went away in the 1960s. A big part was JFK going without one. If you have a nice head of hair, why hide it?

I always wondered why in old pictures my grandfathers and great uncles always had hats on. "Back then you didn't leave your house without one." Then they explained how JFK was the first president to appear in public often without a hat. I rarely leave my house without a hat. But all my hats are various baseball caps.

I think trilby hats anyway, I'm not a haberdasher.

My dad was a kid in the 40s. His parents got divorced early on, so he lived with his mom. ("Above a tavern"; apparently everybody lived above a tavern in his stories.) On Saturday, his mom would give him a dollar so he could go downtown and stay out of her hair all day. Go to the movies for 25 cents, stay as long as you want. Popcorn for a nickel, soda 10 cents. Cowboy movies, cartoons, short films, newsreels. Once the "serious" film came around (the ones you see on TCM now), he'd go to the five-and-dime, load up on candy and comic books, grab a malt then come home.

It’s one of those time periods where I’d like to visit but never want to live there. Though I do have a fondness for old movies from that period.

Give Orson Welles a Blu-Ray disc just to mess with him.

He was born in the early 40s. Talks about how he would collect empty soda bottles Mon through Fri."If I could get enough for 2 bucks I would go see a double feature on Saturday. Stop at the corner store grab a stack of comics. Then go sit under a tree and read them while having a soda and a moon pie." In the late 80s when I was just a year away from being legal to drive, I could have 10 bucks. Have Mom drop me off at the mall. Go see 2 movies, was $2.50 a ticket if it was before 6pm. Grab a burger and a soda at the burger joint in the mall for $3. Then have 2 bucks leftover to spend in the arcade until Mom came to pick me up.

WOW I always joke about how people are getting dumber each year. But damn. That is a level of dumbness I didn't think actually existed outside of rural MS. Dude was walking around asking co workers if it was true with a serious look on his face instead of working for a half hour. They all knew it was me probably f***ING with him so they went along with it. He'd never seen "The Wizard of Oz"?

I'd be highly disappointed going back to that time and finding out all men didn't enter rooms singing, "Hello my baby, hello my honey, hello my ragtime gal..."
You know that and Hitler, Polio, etc.

I was a bit surprised when 2 summers ago I learned my youngest son had never seen it. I figured him and I had watched it at least once when he was a young kid. So I put on the DVD.He enjoyed it but being in his mid teens it didn't capture him like it might have if he had seen it at a young age.

They just air it anytime, now. Doesn't make it seem special anymore, IMO.

And get a bit pissed if she found out you didn't watch it.
