I had the same thoughts, but a couple of those nearfalls made me forget that at start believing. Any time a match can get me like that, I’ll call it a win.

I feel like Kenny has been doing some great character work as a dude who's losing it and becoming unhinged so I could at least see the possibility that he could slip and lose a match like this.

Like, we had a conversation about the best main event in Dynamite history and I feel this helps start the conversation about the best opener in Dynamite history because that match is up there.

It’s this one and THAT Nick Jackson/Rey Fenix match in some order at the top IMO

I feel like people forgot Sydal had that absolute banger with Cage on Dynamite a bit back where people were like "That was Cage's best match since coming here". They also put him in a major Dynamite matche with Kingston too which was great.

Dude's a swiss army knife, no clue if he's full ALL ELITE yet but he damn well should be. It's crazy how long he's been around but how he seems to only get better with age. I hope Mike Sydal also continues to show his stuff, I like that he's getting a chance after how rough things were for his early career with the bad injury Spyral BKNY gave him in CZW. Dude looks in tremendous form now.

I think Kenny's ability to make a nearfall as near as it could imaginably be is one of his unsung talents. I still remember that G1 final against Goto; when Goto hit Shouten-Kai and went for the pinfall I was like "No, that can't be the end", and within milliseconds saw Red Shoes' hand start coming down for the third count, almost literally yelled "HOLY SHIT GOTO'S GOT IT", and then nearly crumpled to the floor in shock when Kenny got his shoulder up.

Like, the guy is really good.

It’s a shame his own personal demons caught up with him multiple times because Sydal really is a tremendous talent. Who knows how long this current run will last but I’m glad it’s happening
