I don’t know if I’m remembering correct, but I thought house shows were one of those things AEW was against. I thought they were focused on being strictly tv where everything is canon, even if it happens in another company.

I don't think they're against them, it just wasn't in their business model initially. Because of the pandemic, they've been doing other things. Now that the pandemic might be breaking, they're going to have a show during Mania weekend (3 hours away). My guess is to get people some work, see how it works out, and maybe experiment with Monday tapings? This could lead to a live Elevation show on Monday, with Dark being taped for the next day. I think taping Elevation and Dark until 4am on Wednesdays is probably starting to wear thin. Who knows. With lots of fans visiting Florida, might be a good chance to experiment.
When things get back to "normal", I don't think they'll be doing regular house shows, but they might. They have more than enough talent to put together a house show tour for Fridays, Saturdays. Not everyone would do it, but like Colt Cabana, Thunder Rosa and Janella putting together a show under the AEW name? I could see that easily.

Yeah there normal business model was not to have house shows. They wanted to have a lighter schedule compared to the WWE's and less wear and tear on the bodies of the wrestlers. I think the talent was given the option to work indies if they choice too. I believe the WWE is going to get rid of house shows when they hit the road again because there wasn't much money being made anymore. I think a lot of is has to do that people now they won't see anything special like a title change or anything that matters to is used for TV programing later to build a feud.

I think given the change in the whole landscape of wrestling thanks to COVID, I'm all for them experimenting and seeing what works. I also think they mentioned doing some house shows at some point before while overseas in Europe since it wouldn't make sense to go over for just one event. I'm definitely excited for the fans that get to see it. They have a great roster for some house show shenanigans with the Dark Order, Orange Cassidy, and Jurassic Express. Plus imagine something like FTR facing a team like Top Flight with a ton of time.

I thought it was a weird thing to announce, but I don't know their behind the scenes plans and stuff. This could be leading to something, or just a random one off. We will see I guess.

I assume this is just a one off to try and capitalize on the fact about 20,000 wrestling fans are going to be coming to Florida for that weekend.
They're about 3 hours apart but Im pretty sure AEW could get about 3000 of that group if they wanted. Just an extra gate.

Basically every company is running out of Florida, and plenty of people would be interested in going to AEW over the weekend.

To be fair, This isnt their first untelevised event. They did one or two house show during the jericho cruise. Their not agaisnt house show, they just dont want to end up like WWE and have their rosters wrestle 3 or 4 different time a week.

I'm guessing Darby vs Matt is happening at that show.

Seems like an excuse to have some fun.

They want as much ring time as possible to keep their body bump ready.

I wonder if they're doing a test taping for that new TNT show for later this year. If AEW goes back on the road for Dynamite, maybe having a residency at Jacksonville where they can tape the other TNT show and Elevation over a couple of days a month would help their production schedule.

I should not be more excited about GCW Spring Break. Khan seems pretty self aware. Get after it, bruh.

Having seen some of the Jericho Cruise exclusive matches, this card sounds like it will be a blast, especially if Jurassic Express get to cut loose. Marko busting out his super-heavyweight offense is something you'd never see on TV, but it works in the laid back house show environment.

This is an untelevised event where AEW's just gonna have fun and cut loose. All three of these matches are fun and should deliver fine with more to come.

I would love if they put this on Youtube either during or after the fact, but if it's just something that exists within its own bubble like the Cruise Matches and no records/standings matter then it is what it is, definitely shaping up to be fun though!

Yeah, to me, house shows were always great because the cards were like PPV cards with all the titles on the line and top feuds featured. Maybe that’s just being in the NY market that the cards were always stacked, but I assumed that’s how it was around the horn most of the time.
