The Ramona books are really funny and still a lot of fun to re-read. RIP.

Sadly, a lot of my favorite childhood authors have passed on, not just Cleary, but also Roald Dahl, Dr. Seuss, Shel Silverstein, Barbara Park, at least Judy Blume and Louis Sachar are still alive.

She lived a long, fruitful life. Hopefully her books will continue to entertain children for decades to come.

Dear 2021, Please stop. Sincerely, PEE-S-T of FAN Something something years don't kill people/everyone dies all the time. Still, you can't spell 2021 without 2020 Won. Just sayin' ;-) Didn't Beverly have a birthday not too long ago? (If so, this will remind me of Olivia de Havilland)

This is a hard one on me. Ramona books were among the ones I ALWAYS read when I was in grade school.
Anyone remember the PBS live action version?
Ramona Forever indeed.

Dear 2021, Please stop. Sincerely, PEE-S-T of FAN She was 104. That's a long-lived life. My gram died at 101. We were happy for her to finally see my gramps again.

104 is nothing to sneeze at. I think when you make it that long, you should celebrate the great life lived that long as well as mourn their loss.
RIP

I remember seeing one episode of that and it didn't really do much for me, there was also a live action movie from the 2000's that also didn't make that much of an impact either. Oh well at least the books were fun for a light read or two.

Only book I ever read of hers was Dear Mr Henshaw which we read in 3rd and 4th grade. That was probably my favorite book I read in school that was not written by Louis Sacher.

RIP ma'am. I was waiting to see what Judy Blume - who idolized her - had to say, and to my absolute shock she said in her tribute that the 2 of them had never met. And the closest they ever got to meeting was when 1 of them got a bundle of the others' fan mail once. Which means they were NEVER close to meeting EVER.

That boggles my mind that Judy Blume has met me but not Beverly Cleary. (Judy lives local and came into Borders while I still worked there and wanted to sign all of the copies of her books we had in stock.)

Otis Spofford may have been one of her least well known books, but it was my favorite - and I read it so often as a kid that my mom eventually forbade me from reading it again because she thought he was a bad role model and having a bad influence on me.
(Yeah, I had one of those parents who didn't want me reading let alone watching anything where the 'message' wasn't adequately pro-social. Mom thought Beverly Cleary's protagonists were too rude and mouthy and didn't like any of her books, but Otis Spofford was the only one she forbade.)
