Penta in the motorized scooter wheelchair will never not get a laugh out of me but also it is f***ing great because Penta is suppose to be this upper eschelon badass but here he is at literally his lowest point both mentally and physically this is the character growth I love and wrestling nowadays needs to learn from....Penta does not need to be wrestling every week or even be live in the arena to be invested in the next chapter of his story where as other companies are afraid to leave their big stars off for more than a week but LU here took Penta away for basically an entire month , this is having faith in the rest of your roster and letting everyone else get shine.

Poor Angelico a man almost literally made of glass.

But yea this is one of those very match heavy episodes which is cool to have because it changes things up a bit episode to episode but like you said just because it was much more about the matches here did not take away that LU doin what they do leave you with plenty of story even even if it was a singular moment and that end vingette was more than enough to satiate.

The cage match is more than worth this episode though IMO absoloutley f***ing stellar IMO topping the Cuerno cage match which was incredible. And this match shows specifically what I say alot that the versions of these guys in LU are the best versions and this one specifically showing Cage off in a way no other company understands for some reason , he is just an absoloute beast with a cool as hell aura (that kendo stick moment *chefs kiss*)

What I loved about the cage match besides the obvious is how it showed that Mundo and Taya had plan after plan after plan to try and counter Cage , they did not simply get informed of the match in the vingette and come into this with just one plan but numerous and I thought that was so great as a heel pairing and shows their genius.

And also how Taya could have used the door to get in all the plunder but she instead threw it over into the cage thus not opening the door for Cage to get out , it is wonderfully played into Cage's resiliance having to overcome Taya and Mundo's Wil-E coyote level schemes.

Jack Evans is a damn treasure this is all.

We start this episode above Dario’s office.



How curious.
Is he hiding something up there? Is he paranoid that there’s something up there that shouldn’t be? Is he checking out possible escape routes? Does he think he’s being bugged? Is it focused purely in the roof or will we see him investigating other places? Whatever the reason for the odd behaviour, he gets a pleasant interruption in the form of Catrina.

There’s a suspiciously upbeat mood as the two have a friendly debate on which one of their monsters almost destroyed the other. The mood is brought down slightly when Catrina threatens Dario if he doesn’t give Mil his rematch for the title.

After a round of “my totem is better than your totem”, Dario says that Mil is getting his rematch next week. To prove how little fear that Dario and Matanza have, it can be Mil’s match: Grave Consequences. Yay! (The 'Yay!' Was mine, not Catrina or Dario’s )

Catrina accepts the match after acknowledging Dario’s bravery. But wait, there’s more! Dario wants to raise the stakes even higher… why have one coffin when you can have four? Graver Consequences!
I feel like it’s not completely ridiculous that my immediate thought is that you have to dismember your opponent and put a part in each coffin to win.

Once Catrina leaves, Dario glances back up at the ceiling.

Into the Temple where Vamp introduces his partner in crime, Striker, and tonights band, Bang Data.
Striker informs us that tonight, every match is for an Aztec Medallion.

How?



How does he make it worse every time?

Medallion #4: Marty “The Moth” Martinez vs The Mack

Mack not playing around tonight and goes right after Marty.

Poor Melissa. After Marty gets back in the match, he takes his t-shirt off and chucks it straight into her face.

It’s tricky to get a proper heel reaction from a LU type crowd these days, but Marty plays his part so well that it looks easy for him.



They’ve not put a name to the face, but that’s the second time they’ve shown that guy as a main focus of a shot.

Mack hits a stunner, which causes Marty to pop back up and go into his staggered animation, so Mack hits another stunner, this time from a fireman’s carry. That’s enough for the win. Mack gets the Medallion, which he bites. It’s unclear whether he was checking to see if it was real gold or if he thought there was chocolate in it.

Nice enough little match, I’m a fan of both these guys.

Catrina in the locker room talking to Cuerno.
She says that next week Mil will regain his LU title, but this time it won’t be Cuerno who is entrusted with the Gift of the Gods. It will be her Disciple, Siniestro de la Muerte.

Cuerno says no. Tonight, her disciple is his prey. If Mil does get the title back, Cuerno won’t make the same mistake he made before. He will take the title from Mil and Mil’s carcass will be the most prized possession in his trophy room.

Welp, there goes Catrina’s good mood.

Somebody actually knocks on Dario’s door instead of just barging in!
Dario invites Sexy Star to come in and sit down. He admits that they’ve not always gotten along, but he does respect her.

Star is being quite withdrawn here: head down, hugging herself, quiet.
Dario knows that something bad happened to her because he sees the change in her eyes, it’s not the first time that he’s seen that look.

He grabs his security blanket bull bullanket and opens up a bit to Sexy Star. He saw the look many years ago, reflected in a mirror. His mother was an evil bitch, she did cruel things to him and his brother, they were captives to her sick and twisted desires.
This gets a slight nod and the tiniest of smiles from Star when Dario asks if it sounds familiar.

The only way to stop their mother from torturing them was when they stood up and said, “No more.”. Whatever Mariposa did to her, tonight Star says, “No more.” He’s giving her the chance to win a medallion and to make Mariposa pay.
Star utters her first word since she entered, “Yes.” When asked if she’d like that.

It will be a “No mas” match, first to say it loses. Before she leaves, Dario lets Star in on a secret. When she wins and Mariposa says “no mas.” Star shouldn’t stop. The only way to get that look out of her eyes is to put the same look into the eyes of Mariposa.

Well, look at what knocking gets you

Like a lot of stuff on LU, I feel like there’s multiple levels of stuff going on here. Maybe Dario did treat Star a little better just because she knocked. Maybe he does feel a certain connection with her and does see the suffering in her eyes. That doesn’t mean that he didn’t give the talk in order to make sure that he got a proper fight or to protect his investment. The “secret” he told her? Maybe it’s true, or at least his truth, but we also know that he loves violence and this would lead to more of it.

Aztec Medallion #5: Siniestro De La Muerte w/Catrina vs King Cuerno

Aggressive start by Cuerno, and he remains firmly in control for several minutes.
Catrina has let it go long enough and, as Cuerno goes for the Arrow, she jumps up on the apron and smacks him in the head with the rock.

Siniestro doesn’t let the opportunity go to waste:



That is enough to keep Cuerno down for the three, Siniestro claims the medallion!

Maybe Catrina will be back in a good mood now?

Cuerno does… not get the lick of death, he gets another shot with the rock instead.

From the sublime to the ridiculous



I was just thinking that Famous B hadn’t made an appearance in a while, but here comes the man himself.

B informs Sagrada that he’s got him the biggest match of the century! Not only that, his opponent has already got an Aztec Medallion and has agreed to put it up for grabs!

What a great guy B is. He really is going to help Sagrada to become famous. It probably won’t be anybody who won their medallion tonight, so let’s see who this mystery opponent might be… oh. Oh no. I see where this is going.

Over to Dario’s office where the streak for people who knock before entering stops at one.

Chavo barges in and asks why he doesn’t have a match for a medallion?

Dario doesn’t sugarcoat his answer. He simply doesn’t think Chavo deserves one. When he gave Chavo the opportunity of a lifetime to compete for the LU title? Chavo repaid him by getting hurt. He’s been in Aztec Warfare and lost… twice. He’s done giving opportunities to Chavo.

Chavo makes it sound like he’s going to do something to seize the opportunity as he storms out.

A perfect situation for Dario; there’s no way for him to lose here. Either Chavo gets involved with the wrong person and gets taken out, or he does something attention grabbing.

Melissa Santos is just about to introduce the first participant in the next match, when she is halted by somebody famous.



He promotes his hotline number, which is also on his tie, and hands out a business card to a nearby lady before getting on with the job of introducing his newest client.

Mascarita Sagrada is now hailing from Little Hollywood and is also joined by the beautiful (and sparkly) Brenda.

Mascarita Sagrada vs Cage

Yup. Sagrada does some praying and last-minute push ups as the machine walks to the ring.

This one doesn’t last long. After making sure to put the blame on Famous B for this happening, Cage finishes the match with an F5…



Actually, lets upgrade that to an F7 or so.

In a fine example of ‘don’t be nice to anybody’, as Cage is checking on Mascarita (along with B checking on his client and Brenda checking on her little marshmallow), Chavo sneaks in and steals his medallion.

Once Cage realises that B is being literal when he tells him ‘You got robbed.”, he chases an escaping Chavo.
As B and Brenda help Sagrada away, B tells his client that he’ll get him next time.

Medallion #6: No Mas Match – Mariposa vs Sexy Star

AKA an I quit match.

No Marty or Mack, at least not at the start of this one. I’m sure we won’t see Mack unless Marty shows up.

This brutal, vicious, match between these two starts with some wrestling. The opening minute doesn’t fill me with confidence about the quality of this one, but I’m willing to give it some time (good decision - future Gecko).

It does appear to be building up a bit after a couple of minutes, I’m guessing there was a cut in there somewhere.

Good job from Star. She was going for a Boston crab and lost her grip on one of the legs but, instead of trying to awkwardly grab it again, she just went with a single leg version.

A sudden bunch of chairs appear and are used by Mariposa. Only now is It starting to get that feeling that this match was needed due to the issues between the two.

Star puts a chair between Mariposa’s legs and smacks it with another one. That Shelly Martinez TNA quote is probably what Mariposa is thinking here.

Mariposa drags Star to the top of the steps, wraps her up with her legs and then starts ripping at the mask.



They continue to fight along the upper level of the Temple. There’s a worrying amount of climbable looking items in the background.



Mariposa climbs onto the guard rail, Star pushes her off but only onto the roof of the mystery room.
Star’s not done, she climbs up further, heading towards the lighting rigs and stuff. Looks like this one is turning into a scaffold match.

Star ends up hanging off of the catwalk up there. She has a deathgrip on the rail and Mariposa and the ref are both holding her as well, but that could have gone very wrong.
Star is bleeding from the face, but manages to create a bit of separation from her opponent to give her the chance to climb down to the relatively safe roof of the mystery room again.



He really is one creepy f***er.

Star looks shocked and then afraid. Marty scrapes her face along the metal barrier, then swings it into her head.Mack finally shows up to take Marty out of the equation as the two in the match continue their battle.

Star is covered in blood. I don’t mean her face is covered, it’s on her face, chest, arms, legs, back…

Ha, a Duke Droese reference when the bins come into play.

They eventually fight their way back into the ring



Star looks to be in trouble as Mariposa gets her in a cloverleaf type submission, but when asked what she says, she gives an emphatic, “f*** YOOOUUUUU!”
Poor ref, don’t know what he did to deserve that

Star ends up jumping on Mariposa’s back and locking in a choke. Despite Mariposa trying to smush Star in the corner, she hangs on and Mariposa ends up in the middle of the ring and starts to fade…



While in the background, Vamp is cheerleading and Marty has returned.

After the initial attack, Marty holds Star and enjoys the moment, this proves to be a mistake as Star ducks his next punch and Mack has finally caught up.
Mack takes out Marty again, Star catches Mariposa in an armbar and, after resisting for as long as she can, the moth lady screams “No mas!”

Star looks to be taking Dario’s advice as she holds onto the armbar after the win. She does release it after a little while, but only to shove the ref out of the way and immediately go back to it. She holds it for another minute before releasing and throwing Mariposa out of the ring. Mack is there to help her up and present her prize of an Aztec Medallion to her.

Wow, that one was a whole hell of a lot better than the opening of it suggested. Credit to them both, they put the work in. It may not have started like it, but it certainly got to the point where it felt like each would do whatever it took to win.
I wasn’t expecting all the blood from Star. Don't know why, they've shown that the women are treated the same as the men.
Going way up into the lighting fixtures was a nice new thing to introduce, but I’m sure that it won’t become a common occurrence.

- Looking forward to Grave Consequences but I doubt it’ll top the first one, that is probably my favourite LU match that I’ve seen.
- I was thinking everybody was getting different colours for their Medallion bags, but it was only Mack who got a different colour.
- I’m liking Brenda, she seems to have caught onto things very quickly going by her performance this episode.
- Famous B had a Mascarita picture on the back of his jacket. I hope if he gets more clients, he ends up like Jimmy Hart where he has a custom one for each person.
- I’m guessing the last medallion is decided in some sort of big multi person match.

One of the best episodes of the whole season and without a doubt , universally agreed upon by far Sexy Stars best match.

But first Dario getting the best view in the house..I mean office.

Again paying compliment to LU and their details I love that everytime the office gets broke in some way you always see the ongoing construction in some way...the window when it got broken the first time the next week it was borded up and here after monsters fell through his roof he is here making sure that the unsavory boyle heighrs construction workers did their job....rumor has it paid in coke but rumors.

And this scene is a nice contrast to Dario at the end of season 1 hell the entirety of season 1 where Catina was spooking him and where he fled away from the temple once Catrina and crew took power , now he is full of confidence and no fear of Catrina like he used to have.

And I like that Catrina immediately accepted without even informing Mil , it is this fun back and forth power play....Dario shows no fear and even give Mil his signature match and so Catrina can't hesitate in accepting or else that hesitency would only further embolden Dario , it is so perfectly played like a little chess match that contrasts to the previous interactions.

I love the set up to this match it comes right the f*** out of nowhere , like the story is there but there is no week prior set up announcement to this match and really it was the smart thing to do because if they had set it up prior everyone would have been like...ewww a sexy star match and not tuned in for it so setting it up about half way through the episode kind of forced everyones hand to keep watching lol , atleast from my pov this was them being aware of how sexy star matches were viewed and set it in a way the viewer had to keep watching.

And the office scene between Dario and Sexy was sooooo f***ing good from both Sexy and Dario here with her very lightly knocking on his door , every thing she does is to show how scared she is and it is never sacrificed or forgotten perfect direction , Dario is walking that fine line of is he being genuine or is there something else at play....he definetly wants to endulge in his sick obsession with violence but also makes you question whether he really did have sympathy for sexy it is this wonderful character play where you can't be quite sure what Dario's true intentions are other than he wants violence manipulated sexy's emotions to push her as far as he wanted.

But also maybe he see's the oppurtunity to use Sexy to take out a powerful tribe.

And it is also Dario kind of dealing with his own past issues through her , wonderful multilayered scene here.

It is a world of difference in how he spoke to Catrina and this scene Sexy , have we ever said how gawd damn great Dario is because he is fan f***ing tastic that every scene he has even in the same episode is so wildly different no interaction with him is ever the same character to character you immediately see how he feels about everyone that confronts him.

This is an episode to completely for one time to pay absoloutle major compliments to sexy star hell this story is a huge compliment to her and quite frankly everyone in this story...you got the creepy bastards , a developed friendship between which further builds Mack up as a top shelf babyface , he may not have played a major role but it was important enough.

And again this is one of those episodes where the midcard gets to shine...no Penta , no Puma , No Fenix , Matanza etc and it shows in the absoloute quality of the show that it did not suffer from those talents not being on...hey other companies yall can learn a thing or two here in that it is alright to let main players step aside for a bit.

And Sexy Star gets one of LU's most iconic moments f*** YOU!!! , f*** YOU MARIPOSA!!!! and the pop it gets is just wow.

And yes Marty only continues to up the creepy but he is go f***ing good at it...almost too good for better or worse.

Him throwing his shirt in Melissa's face ewwwwww hope she burned that dress after getting moth sweat on it and then after Mack dives onto he throws his own jacket onto Marty tit for tat.

LU on the ball again I love that they did not leave the Cuerno thread hanging and that he learned from his previous alliance with this...beautiful...sultry...sexy....I mean...evil totallly evil...lustful....the thing I w.....WHAT? I MEAN.

But too bad the night doesn't end so well for him having to get beat by Mariachi Loco Catrina's super putty , poor Cuerno the brides maid but never the bride now as far as the GOTG goes....if only he bothered to just cash it in when he had it instead of asking.....Hunters great at killing horrible at negotiations.

And speaking of great things (see I can transition to learned it via rosetta stone) back to the LU gym and Mascarita out here lifting the weight of a small car lol this gag to me will never get old.

BRENDA IS HERE FOR HER LITTLE MARSHMALLOW! lol I gawd damn adore this woman so much and what a genius move to mic her up.

Poor Macarita this agent client relationship is starting out painfully..luckly for him it was short...f*** I mean ugh (starts sweating nerves) uhhhhh damn it.

Hell even Famous B out here talking about THE BIGGEST match of the century no one can help themselves lol.

"PLEASE DON'T KILL HIM" chant might be one of my favourite chants ever lol

But I like how this match served multiple purposes though and fed into the Chavo vingette LU weaving stories in and out perfectly as they do and furthers the characters in the process....Chavios desperation , Famous B's monkey paw ability of being able to get his clients oppurtunities but they are oppurtunties that put his client at impossible odds to win.

Hey look Chavito is here living up to his name sake of being a total shithead but Dario burying the f*** outta him never gets old and goes back to what I said about how Dario's interactions with everyone are never the same with anyone , even though Chavo has a prestegious family lineage Dario has has nothing but contempt for him.

And to circle this all the way back to the main event just complete round of applause for both women who absoloutley f***ing killed it..bled absoloute f***ing buckets , damn here gets killed by almost being thrown off the scafold and the iconic f*** YOU MARIPOSA! this is completely peak sexy star.

And Mariposa is no slouch because she helped lead sexy star not verball but kind of gentley pushing her to the spots she was suppose to be in and just doin what she was suppose to and made sexy star look the best she ever has so not just heaping praise to sexy but both women more than deserve their flowers for this one.

And next week we only go further up this sick bloody violent hill.

S02E16 – Graver Consequences

Dario is having a trip away from the Temple and is late for his meeting in a fancy club with… Delgado?! It’s not going to be that simple, but Dario being the mystery boss would solve some problems for him.

Dario is here to hand over a stack of cash. Makes sense that Dario has some connection to somebody with power, how else would he keep his underground fight club (where people mysteriously disappear) going? Delgado says that his employer will be pleased, but then stops Dario as he tries to leave and insists that he doesn’t rush off and stays for a drink.

Delgado brings up the fact that the police are investigating Dario and the Temple itself, and thinks that they’ve probably already got somebody on the inside (nah, doubt it). Dario gets reminded that the Temple is very important to Delgado’s employer and, when his Descension is complete, he’s going to come by personally to see it. Dario is looking nervous about this news.

Wonder if this is more gods as men (turning up in 1,000 years)/ancient tribes stuff. We’re at least getting another person on the same level as Mil and Matanza. The ‘descension’ comment is interesting since normally you’d think it would be ‘ascension’ with some sort of demon climbing out of hell, where this suggests an angelic entity of some sort. One might say... a fallen angel?

Oh, wait, was Dario taking this too literally and that is why he was checking his ceiling?

It’s interesting to see how much of Dario’s confidence and power comes from the Temple. Here, he wanted away from this meeting as quickly as possible. It was also very clear that he wasn’t the one in control and guiding where the meeting was going – he didn’t even get to choose his own drink.

Striker welcomes us, informs us about the two title matches and an Aztec medallion up for grabs tonight. No time to even introduce the Lucha band, we’ve got wrestling to do:

Aztec Medallion #7: Mr Cisco vs Cortez Castro vs Joey Ryan

Interesting matchup.

Even the ref is looking disgusted at Joey oiling himself.

Striker says the Gift of the Gods title match will be next week. (I'm sure Cage will just let Chavo compete in his place)

Not a huge surprise that Cortez and Cisco work together at the start, I’m sure that partnership will dissolve when one of them tries to actually win the match. We don’t even have to wait until then, Joey rolls out and the Crew go at each other.

Oh, wow, a sudden sneaky win for Joey Ryan. He jumps back in the ring when the other two are busy, bumps into them which gets rid of Cisco and rolls up Cortez to claim the last medallion.

Of course it had to be Cortez that Joey pinned, just another way he can show the captain that he’s doing a better job.

That’s… quite an image

As Mil is preparing for his match later on, Catrina approaches to tell him that she’s been waiting for this moment for 197 years. She’s looking good for her age… but can you imagine how boring that wait must have been.

She says that that is a long time to spend as a prisoner of darkness (ooh, is… no… wait…. yes… if…. No… no, I’m just going to wait to come up with a theory), but Mil spent only days in his mausoleum of stone and rubble.
Catrina was the one to guide him to safety.



He spent weeks roaming the underworld, until she freed him from death’s grip and made him more powerful than ever. Locking him in the coffin and then bringing him back was all part of her plan. Before Mil closes the lid on the coffin, she wants him to watch her lick the face of Matanza, lick the face of a god, and make them immortal.

Oh, so the licking does actually have an effect and she is stealing a little bit of people’s… power? Life?

After Mil and Catrina make their exit, it’s revealed that Cuerno was hiding behind the shrine and obviously heard everything. He sets his sights on his new prey.

Trios Championship: Ivelisse & Son of Havoc vs Dragon Azteca Jr, Prince Puma, & Rey Mysterio Jr (c)

Another Trios match for the duo of Ivelisse and Havoc, but Striker reveals that Dario has given them a new partner to replace the injured Angelico…



Rey needs to start wearing a big question mark on his head during their entrance to fit in with the team.

Bit of an awkward moment for Ivelisse as she twists her leg getting up fancily. The gallant dragon backs off and lets her tag out.

Fun spot where Rey and Havoc both go for a kick and grab the other guy’s leg then have to negotiate releasing the legs at the same time.

When Mundo tags himself in, Puma also gets tagged and the pace picks right up due to the history between these two.

When Puma gets sent to the outside, Taya starts putting the boots to him, only for Ivelisse to come and drag her off of him. That’s not the way this team does stuff, especially since Dragon backed off when Ivelisse tweaked her knee earlier.



That’s not a tag!

Later on in the match, Mundo is getting frustrated at not getting tagged in, and Taya is getting vocal about it on the outside.

Ivelisse prevents the 619 by grabbing Rey’s ankle, that’s a little unexpected. As Rey and Ivelisse are discussing it, Mundo tries a springboard kick on Rey but hits Ivelisse instead.

Dragon takes out Mundo on the outside, which leaves Havoc to fight this thing on his own. He doesn’t last too long and falls to a 619/630 combo.

Taya (and Mundo) and Ivelisse are arguing on the outside as the champs celebrate on the inside. When they leave, Ivelisse goes to check on Havoc, but Taya follows her and attacks.

Lucha Underground Championship – Graver Consequences: Mil Muertes w/Catrina vs ‘The Monster’ Matanza Cueto(C) w/Dario Cueto

Here we go for round 2. Round 2 of the monster mash (subtitle: Mash Harder), and round 2 of Grave Consequences: Graver Consequences



The theatrics are back and I now know what I want my funeral to look like, including having a guy on stilts for no clear reason.

The coffins look like they’ve all got a big skull on them but also slightly different designs.
Zero commentary during this whole ceremony. Remember when that was a thing? Just letting the moment sell itself.

To start the match, we just basically continue what happened last time; nothing fancy, just hard-hitting stuff.

The first casualty of the match is one of the coffin lids as Mil is thrown out over the top and lands on top of it, putting a huge dent in it.

Catrina has learned from last time and uses a chair on Matanza this go round. I mean, it doesn’t work, but at least she tried something different.

All those coffins are getting conveniently lined up.



Powerbomb by Matanza onto one of the coffins and then, oh, we’re dismantling the ring… or at least undoing the bottom rope.

Not as spectacular as last time, but probably still pretty effective:



That’s at least two of the four coffins that you’re probably going to struggle to open now.

Mil drags a coffin (with a lid that doesn’t fit anymore) into the ring (that bottom rope being loose is handy) and tries to set it up in the corner. Dario is watching on and looking concerned, his judgement goes out the window again and he grabs Mil’s ankle. This goes as well as you would expect for El Jefe.



Luckily, Matanza has recovered enough to save his brother.

Mil finishes loosening the bottom rope and salvages the hooked metal part of the turnbuckle, but Matanza wrestles it away from him and Mil is the one who takes it in the head (followed by a very obvious blade job).

Matanza rips open the mask of Mil to give him an opening for more shots with the hook. Hey, Mil’s bleeding, wonder when that happened?

After his dreams of being a pirate with a hook were crushed, Mil goes searching for buried treasure instead and finds a toolbox under the ring. Inside the treasure toolbox, he finds.... a glove!

Since Striker is having trouble deciding what the glove is, I’m saying it looks like a glove off a shark diving chainmail suit. That’s different. I’ve seen all sorts used for protective gear in wrestling, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen any actual armour.

Mil puts the glove to good use until Matanza hits a low blow. Matanza then throws the coffin lid out of the ring so that we’ve got an open coffin sitting in the middle of the ring… nope, the coffin follows the lid.

Ok, they’re both outside next to the single untouched coffin. Don’t screw that one up, it’s the only one that will let you end the match.

It took all this time, but somebody finally (sort of) goes in a coffin. The lid won’t close as Mil still has at least one limb hanging out of it.

AAAAAH! Mil uses his armoured hand to punch through the lid of the coffin and grab Matanza!


He grabs the monster by the throat and smashes his face down onto the lid.

As Matanza grabs the best of the rest of the coffins, Mil grabs the ring bell.

Dario is trying to get Matanza back into this fight with the key, but Catrina is hovering close by as well.
My money is 100% on Catrina in a fight between those two.

Catrina takes him down with a single slap! Matanza takes out Catrina with a chair shot to the back!

Matanza has the rock! (he’s probably going to melt it down and make a gold chain out of it) This is looking very bad for Mil, who is on the other side of the ring setting stuff up and hasn’t noticed any of this. Matanza puts the rock in one of the coffins, and then, under instruction from Dario, he grabs Catrina and puts her in the same coffin. Mil finally notices what’s going on at this point.

After diving on the monster and beating him down for a bit, Mil succeeds in getting an intact coffin into the ring, this one has a black lining. Mil gets his opponent into the coffin, but then it’s a test of strength for Matanza as he holds the lid open while Mil leans on it to try and close it.

Matanza fights his way out of the coffin and powerbombs Mil onto it. Mil fights back but gets caught by Matanza with Wrath of the Gods, right into the coffin. Matanza pulls the upper half of his body out of the coffin and closes the lid to retain the title!

Dario grabs the belt and the mic to do the announcement of the winner. He then opens the coffin containing Catrina… but it’s empty!

The faces of death come to collect the coffin with Mil in it. Wonder if he gets to come back in a bit, even more powerful again?



Oh, wait! I completely forgot about him! Look who is helping to take the coffin away:



We’re getting a Mil-skin rug very soon.

It was very good fun and obviously a much different match from the first, but I still prefer the original more.

Delgado is waiting somewhere as a car pulls up. He asks the driver how ‘his’ mood is. I guess this is the mysterious employer.

Delgado gets in the limo and passes over the money that he received from Dario, all 50k of it. Delgado recounts his meeting with Dario, how he told him to prepare the temple, and that he is starting to believe that his brother is the most powerful being on earth, but Delgado told him that mystery boss was.



Well, there’s not a lot to go on there. It’s a guy, he has at least one hand, presumably a mouth to put the cigar in, which is probably part of a face of some type.

Post Episode & General Thoughts/Questions

- I don’t know exactly when it was that I stopped calling them Goons and started thinking of them as The Crew. Between this and DOD not being around, I’m going to have to find a new group of goons to mock.

- Siniestro is in the gotg match, but Catrina is apparently vanished. Looks like he'll have to try and do stuff on his own.

- This looks like it might be the end of the Ivelisse/Angelico/Havoc team, at least for a while. Yeah, why not give them a chance to do something different and change things up a bit.
- Wonder what else Cuerno got up to, he couldn’t have just been there to gloat at the end.
- This does seem like a new chapter episode where things change around a bit.

One of my absoloute favourite vingettes to kick off any episode is right here and clearly inspired by the amazing tracking shot from Goodfellas.



Scenes like this are both why no one and they keep trying , but no one can replicate LU because and I have said this before...wrestling has people that may know how to use a camera but the folk from LU know how to shoot a gawd damn show and this is one of those scenes that show not only that off but the strength of the writing and while it is not too long the acting here between two very strong actors is just.



And we get so much from this scene.

We learn that Dario and Delgado are underlings to someone much more powerful.

That for as powerful as he is Matanza is not someone that even they fear and the mystery person is above even Matanza.

That Dario is further down on the totem poll here than initially thought...not only is he doing the bidding of the mystery man but he is even below Delgado.

That the temple itself is not just some building but it also has a purpose to this ongoing plot

Delgado is a whiskey guy.

Soooo f***ing good and I love that this episode is basically a mini concurrent movie through the entire episode.

But the walls are now starting to close in on Dario even if he does have bis brother by his side...Catrina and Mil , his own inner circle with Delgado and Mystery person , the cops and their investigation and while it is all quiet on the western front right now....Vamp is still over there at the commentary table and that is no doubt like the damaclease sword hanging over his head.

And I love that even though all these stories have Dario at the centre of it that he isn't taking up copious ammounts of screen time but each story feeds into another and other characters everyone is getting their shine from everything spawning off of what Dario is finding himself involved in.

Like Cuerno's involvement....Catrina pretty much f***ed him over at the start of the season and then f***ed him over again last week but benefited off of Dario and Catrina's dick waving fest with each other that allowed him to be a hunter of his word and take Mil's rotten carcase. Absoloutley masterful LU , one angle and story is always feeding into another in some way whether it be intentional or not , again look at the Chavo situation Darios pays no interest so he gets involved with Cage and the Medallion but also played into Famous B and Mascarita with him getting his client oppurtunities , one story leads to another that pushes along another set of characters indirectly.

But as far as the matches only a 2 match episode but but more than worth it though both fun and wild matches.

Ive was a stand out in the trios match and this is the first time Taya got to square off with another female in the temple so neat first for this match , Mundo is full on heel douche mode and it is amazing...dood is out here in full on radioactive neon pink for f*** sakes lol.

Poor Dario in the main event that bump he takes after Mil grabs him was a bit scary because he wasn't suppose to bump like that and kind of got his bell rung on that bump.

And yea that blade job was not good but this one falls on Matanza because if you notice he rips the scalp of the mask which basically nullifies the blade job that was suppose to happen when he you are suppose to rip from the eye hole so yea this one falls on Matanza sadly luckly it is the only iffy moment on an otherwise just insane hoss murder brawl.

And clearly neither Mil or Matanza value their spines (no proof they have any by the way just held together by evil) with the ammount of chokeslams on actual caskets they took during this match.



One of the absoloutley wildest coolest f***ing moments ever , you want a horror movie moment there you gawd damn go and only in LU do you find a chainmail , shark proof glove in a tool box in LU lol.

Apparently two the coffins were gimmicked like this just incase because Chris Roach wanted to ensure they were gonna do that spot but it still Mil having to punch through metal regardless , one of my absoloutley favourite spots and character moments ever.

And props to Catrina and Dario taking the bumps in this match going into the end there and Matanza did not hold back on that chairshot to Catrina she takes another just flush and sells it beautifully.

And then we get to Mil spending quite a bit of time getting the last coffin into the ring which was edited...it got caught on the ropes , Mil got gassed trying to get it into the ring etc the unedited version of this match from the taping is approx 10min longer.

All in all a more than solid effort IMO and while it may not achieve the heights of the first one (that is pretty damn impossible) it turns into its own thing and I love it.

And then we get our first cliffhanger again with Cuerno taking Mils rotten corpse away.

And then that cliffhanger leads into an even bigger post credits cliffhanger and I am gonna keep this one very short....you will NEVER figure out who this is BUT it is extremely easy to spoil and you thought the bull drove you insane oh no my reptilien friend THIS is what is gonna drive you up the wall and I am so lookin forward to all the guesses.

The employer is just a host body waiting for an entity to 'descend' from a higher plane of existence and take him over. That is what's going on with that. We already know this is an option thanks to Matanza's story.

There are going to end up being 7 super-powered god-people running around the temple, each with their own handler/manager/guide, one for each of the seven ancient tribes.

1 - Mil Muertes & Catrina
2 - Matanza & Dario Cueto
3 - Employer & maybe Delgado?

The next most obvious choice would be Penta and Vamp. As for the remaining 3, there's a few options currently, but none that are a sure thing.

2: "Ok. I guess I don't want to go through the withdrawal again.

1: "Right. So we all swear to keep quiet and not remind Gecko that he was going to take a mid-season break in the hopes that he forgets."

I don't know who has been feeling more ill this week: me or my computer.

S02E17 – Crime and Punishment

Going by the title, I’d guess we’re getting some Cortez/Joey Ryan (and everything associated with that deal) shenanigans here. Maybe Joey wins the GotG?
Chavo might also be the punishment part of the title.

Last time
- Dario met with Delgado, handed over some cash and was informed that the employer will be visiting the temple
- Joey Ryan beat Cisco and Cortez for the last Aztec Medallion
- Cuerno was stalking Catrina and Mil
- Havoc and Ivelisse were forced to team with Mundo for their unsuccessful trios title challenge
- Taya attacked Ivelisse after the match
- Matanza defeated Mil Muertes in Graver Consequences
- Catrina disappeared after being put in a coffin
- Cuerno helped to take Mil’s coffin away (to be recycled into a trophy)
- Delgado met with his mysterious employer

Recaps of:

Into Dario’s office where he is interrupted in the middle of moving money around by Cage.
Dario ‘innocently’ asks if he’s excited about tonight, then when Cage says that Chavo stole his medallion and is hiding it from him, Dario tells him that he better hurry and get it back since he’s about to kick the show off with the Medallion ceremony.

Once Chavo puts the Medallion in the Gift of the Gods belt he’ll be in the match. Dario sees how this is going to go and just invites Cage to join him in the ring.

Out to the ring we go…

What am I missing here? Dario took the mic from Melissa and she just walked away without even looking at him… oh, it’s a Cage related thing, right. She’s pissed at him for not sorting out the Chavo situation.

Dario goes into his spiel about the Gift of the Gods as Cage paces. He invites all the medallion holders to come and place their medallion in the belt.

Texano is first out, he places his medallion without incident (Dario tells him, “Well done.”).
Joey Ryan is next, Dario says he has a sixth sense for fashion (does that mean it’s dead?). At least Joey is keeping the Medallion in his jacket pocket and not… oh, he licked it.
Siniestro eventually gets identified by Dario. He gets a “spooky!” from Dario.
Aerostar is on time, Dario welcomes him to earth.
Mack wanders in in his normal street clothes.
Sexy Star is the penultimate one. She’s looking much happier since defeating Mariposa.

One more to go… Chavo makes his entrance, holding a chair as well as the stolen medallion. Dario invites them to fight it out as he gets out the way.

The chair doesn’t help Chavo as Cage muscles him into the corner and beats him down before grabbing the medallion bag. I say bag since it’s a Guerrero, the medallion’s probably not in there… Nope, it’s a giant washer. Cage turns around in time to get a few chair shots from Chavo.

Chavo picks up the actual medallion, which was attached to the chair, and places it in the belt. Cage hits Chavo with a discus clothesline, but the deal is done: Chavo is in, Cage is out.

Argenis vs Daga vs Kobra Moon vs Mascarita Sagrada w/ Famous B & Brenda

Melissa gets stopped by Famous B before she even finishes introducing Kobra Moon.



Melissa doesn’t have a hotline.

Whatever Famous B is doing, it’s working as Sagrada clears the ring. It doesn’t last long though as Kobra just has her way with him for a few minutes.
Daga gets back in the ring, grab Kobra by the hair and she tries to lick him. (Kobra Moon vs Catrina in some sort of licking match? Please?).

That’s the second strangest game of Twister that I’ve seen this week.

Ooh, that looked nasty. Argenis threw Sagrada using a diva match style move where you grab the opponent by the hair/head/mask and spin them around and they go twirling away, but Sagrada landed face first on the bottom rope.

Kobra hits a driver on Sagrada but doesn’t go for the pin as Daga gets back in the ring. I guess she does have a thing for him as she sits in the corner and lets Daga get the win.
Daga is too confused to celebrate his win as he watches Kobra grope herself.

B and Brenda are in to check on Sa… no, Brenda, wait until you’re in private for that! She opens his legs and crawls up between them… careful not to squash his marshmallows!

In the LU locker-room we see almost an action movie montage of Killshot getting ready.



Marty… salutes Killshot before going on to say that he heard that they had a match tonight. He tries some more military based mockery of Killshot:



This does not go well as Killshot shows off his hand-to-hand skills and it ends with Marty flat on his back.
As Killshot does his own finger guns and says ‘Bang!”, Marty is his normal, unhinged self just lying on the floor laughing.

El Conjunto Nueva Ola finally get recognition as tonight’s tunes as Marty makes his way to the ring.

Marty ‘The Moth’ Martinez vs Killshot

Melissa Santos is on high alert and does not get hit by Marty’s thrown shirt this time.

Striker gets into listing past military gimmicks in wrestling and Vamp’s contribution is Major Gunns.

Going by the laughter, Marty is enjoying himself during this match.

Vamp still brings up the fact that he’s still taking his meds.

Nice exploder by Marty into the corner. He’s still taking time to mock Killshot, which does give Killshot a chance to get back into the match.

I don’t know, I’m not really feeling this one.

Ooh, DVD on the apron by Killshot. They both roll back in the ring at 9, I genuinely thought we were getting a double countout there.

Marty gets caught when he tries attacking Killshot in the corner one too many times



The blood doesn’t do anything to make him less creepy.

Killshot carries Marty to the middle of the ring and then plants him to pick up the win.
Marty has finally stopped laughing.

That one really only came alive after the near count out, shame that part of the match was so short.

Marty is pissed and goes after Killshot. He uses the ringpost and barriers on the outside of the ring in his assault. He then grabs Killshot’s dogtags and, as Killshot crawls across the ring towards him, hits a curbstomp from the ropes.

Gift of the Gods: Texano vs Joey Ryan vs The Mack vs Siniestro de la Muerte vs Aerostar vs Sexy Star vs Chavo Guerrero Jr

Bit of a different look for Texano tonight.



I’m going with Mack to win it.

Texano goes straight after Chavo when the bell rings.

Chavo and Joey team up for a very short time until Star, Sexy and Mack take them out. Mack reluctantly trades some moves with an insistent Star. Texano runs interference before the two friends actually get into any moves that might hurt each other.

Texano tries a running knee against Aerostar in the corner and, when he misses, dramatically launches himself over the top.



Ha, cannonball coffindrop by Aerostar to the outside, that’s just ridiculous.

Everybody has a go at diving out the ring, apart from Joey who gets his turn taken by Sexy Star. Striker has a nice explanation where he puts it down to ego; when one of them does it, the other have to show that they can do it better.

I swear Texano gets bigger every time I see him.

Lots of pin attempts getting broken up, and people switching in and out all the time.

Chavo’s unpopularity finally catches up with him



Chavo takes a bunch of moves from everybody except Joey. I’ll wonder when they’ll realise that it’s not elimination and they can’t just pin him to get rid of him?

Ah, here comes Cage. I’ve been conditioned to expect a swerve here where Cage and Chavo are actually working together.
Oh, I was only being half serious there, but Cage attacks everybody!

Joey tries to sneak a pin on the downed Chavo while Cage is busy destroying everyone else but runs out of time and ends up eating a screwdriver.

Striker is still expecting Cage to now go after Chavo, but the Machine pulls Guerrero on top of Joey instead.

Sudden thought: Maybe Cage isn’t working with Chavo, maybe he’s got a match with him next week and was making sure he’d have a shot at the gotg?

Yeah, Chavo and Cage aren’t looking like best buddies. Cage congratulates Chavo and lets everybody know that Chavo is defending the title against Cage next week.

Where’s my Penta? Here he is! Lurking in the post credits scene with Vampiro.

Vamp tells Penta that the monster broke him in two… and now he must break Penta again to make him strong.

Oh, and while this is being said, Penta is strung up in a torture/medical device and getting hit by Vamp with a stick.



“Only the weak cry in pain.” Vamp looks determined to beat the weakness out of Penta. “Only the weak show their suffering.”

Vamp tells Penta that you have to overcome the voices in your head. That Ian thought he could control him with the pills, he was wrong.

All the pain, the injuries, everything that you think controls you is nothing compared to what he did to you.

I like how this whole bit could be Vamp talking to Penta about what Matanza did to him or Vamp talking to himself about what Ian did to Vamp.

Vamp switches out his stick for a barbed-wire covered baseball bat. We end the episode as he swings it at Penta’s head.

Post Episode & General Thoughts/Questions

- ‘Whoever puts a medallion in the belt gets in the match’ makes more sense than a ‘whoever signs the contract gets the match’ situation.

- Siniestro feels a little lost at the minute. If Catrina isn't back very soon, he's going to need something to focus on.

- I see chavo losing the match next week since I can envision Cage vs Matanza easier than Chavo vs Matanza.

- I suppose if Vamp causes enough pain for Penta, the counter will tick over and reset to zero.

I don't know if it was just because I wasn't feeling at my best (and maybe not giving it 100% attention) for this episode or what, but it felt a little... average. It still had the story elements, but it was missing that special something to set it apart.

Since it looks like I'm not taking a mid-season break, I'll have Wrestlemania weekend off instead.

Remember what I said after what was it ep 14 or whatever from the monster mash on through graver consequences that you were gonna get some of the best episodes of the season , so it was to expected you run that hard for 4 episodes you need to cool down and who else but Chavito do you bring in for the lesser episodes lol and still rings true now that Blue Demon has f***ed off and retired to Miami.

But I did enjoy the running thread through the episode of that cat and mouse game and showed that Cage isn't a complete meat head and now he has an even easier path to the GOTG because now he only has to beat 1 guy instead of 6 others.

Poor Mascarita can't catch a damn break like being back in highschool...or pre-school was there much a difference for him? just pondering lol.

Hi Chris Roach's weird creative choice of giving Vamp a sex dungeon lol always makes me laugh to see Pentagon at his absoloute lowest being strapped up in what looks like a sex swing and really begs the question of what else Vamp is putting Pentagon through there is your horror thought for the night.

And I can finally touch on something I have been teasing specifically about Killshot but I cannot remember if it this match or a future match between them but ima say it now.

Up untill this point and if you did not notice if here you will soon enough if you pay attention to how different Killshots match here came across to you compared to all his previous ones is because (again idk if it this one specifically) but his matches with Marty are the first time he has gotten to call his own matches because before this feud it was everyone else calling the match so to appreciate Killshots growth even more know that not only when he started here it was his first time working a Televised wrestling show , it was his first time working under a mask and he had to work through the language barrier with alot of luchadors he was working with and it was all his opponents calling his matches untill this point , so yea there is a much stronger appreciation for his work knowing all of that to this point and you really see the shift beginning now.

Marty is just f***ing great nothing else to say about that dood but love the moment his head smacks the ground and how they show you his brain got a little rattled and he didn't simply just lay there no selling...of course he f***ing nuts and enjoyed it lol.

Rapey Kobra Moon is quite the direction lol.

But yea not much else to say about this episode as it was a cool down but again like I said LU still gives you story progressions though so you never leave an episode without atleast something to keep biting on as they say.

But I will say we ramp back up next episode though so this isn't like a multi cool down and we have some absoloute bangers left before we hit Ultima Lucha.

And that reminds me now that we are basically in the end game of the season , remember only 26 episodes this season.

Gotta start teasing out season 3 aka my favourite and IMO the absoloute best season of Lucha Underground and I cannot f***ing wait.

2 of the top 5 matches in the entirety of LU happen in season 3 and this both from fans and talent.

2 of the previously regarded best matches in LU are dethroned.

and 1 of those takes the mantle from the original Grave Consequences as the best match in LU history.

After a not completely planned break, we're heading back to the Temple and the insanity contained within.

S02E18 – Enter The Mundo

Last time
- Cage fails to prevent Chavo stealing his place in the Gift of the Gods match
- Kobra Moon allows Daga to win a 4-way match that she’s a part of and makes it very, very clear she’s interested in him
- Killshot defeats Marty but Marty beats him up after and takes his dogtags
- Chavo wins Gotg thanks to Cage who then informs him that he’s defending the gotg against Cage next week
- Vamp continues his rehabilitation of Penta.

Starting off with Pentagon and Vampiro.

Penta is back on his feet and moving around freely. Vamp stops him as he goes to leave and asks where he is going. Penta says that he’s ready, but Vamp disagrees.



That’s a very different look from how he appears on commentary. They are really separating the two personalities.

Penta challenges Vamp to stop him from leaving and Vamp obliges. He doesn’t quite break Penta’s arm, but you get the feeling he could have pretty easily if he wanted to. He warns Penta to never question him again.
Vamp reiterates that Penta isn’t ready to face the monster (because he’s not done a training montage).. not yet.

Into the Temple we go…

Voodoo Glow Skulls are a fantastic band (I formed this opinion solely on the name).

Commentary mentions that tonight there are two title matches. Vamp covers the first one, Chavo defending GOTG against Cage and then hands over to Striker for the next. As Striker talks about the Trios title match, Vamp is on his phone. He passes it over to Striker and it turns out to be a very important call about becoming famous.

Joey Ryan vs Mascarita Sagrada w/Famous B & Brenda

Melissa Santos introduces Joey, but then is handed a business card in exchange for the mic by Famous B (from the commercials!) who takes over the job of announcing for his client. He does not get to finish his intro as Joey attacks Sagrada.

Joey offers his lollypop to Brenda who rightfully gags at the thought. Famous B takes the opportunity to hand him a business card, you know, just in case. The distraction allows Sagrada to get back into the match.

Joey shows off his strength by… not being able to press Sagrada over his head and, after a short break to recover from the effort, settles for a bodyslam instead.

Sagrada avoids a few shots from Joey and picks him up in a fireman’s carry with ease. Moonsault gets the… no! Ah, they got me with that one.

B gets up on the apron (to give the ref a card) as Sagrada crawls over to get some advice from master tactician, Brenda.



With the ref still distracted, Sagrada kicks Joey “Balls of Steel” Ryan between the legs and only ends up hurting his own foot. Sagrada almost sneaks a win with a rollup, before Joey finishes things with a tornado DDT.

Thought: Sagrada is losing all these matches on purpose just so he can have Brenda check on and console him after.

Taya is in a hall of mirrors admiring herself in a skimpy outfit before switching to a fancy dress and beating up some masked goons.

The message throughout this vignette is about how great and perfect she is. She ends up leaving in a flashy car with Mundo, and the on screen text lets us know that perfection has arrived.
No complaints there, I had the message that she’s the perfect woman in my head well before the end.

Over we go to Cuerno’s Cabin. He says that Muertes sat on the throne like he was king of the jungle for too long and forgot that it was Cuerno’s jungle that he inhabited.



So, he chose not to go with the ‘make a rug’ option and went with the ‘Han Solo in carbonite hanging on the wall’ option instead.
Cuerno gloats a bit more before leaving. We end with a close up on Muertes’ face and didn’t get the jump scare of him opening his eyes.

I don’t know what I was expecting (maybe just his mask?) but it wasn’t Cuerno actually turning another person into a trophy to display.

Gift of The Gods Championship: Chavo Guerrero (c) vs Cage

Vamp brings up Chavo coming to the ring first as champ and how he chose to do it, and maybe it’s part of his strategy. Little details like that are great.

As you would expect, Cage has the advantage when he can use his strength, Chavo takes it when he can speed things up and use his sneakiness.

Don’t think I’ve seen that variation on the monkey flip done before



It’s pretty impressive.

The Alabama Slam must be a terrible move to take. It's either gonna hurt or it'll get done so slowly and softly that it'll look terrible.

Chavo hits the frog splash with no hesitation when he gets the chance, it gets a very close two count.

Chavo then goes for the three amigos. He hits the first two, but Cage blocks the third, switches Chavo from a suplex to a powerbomb position mid-air, hits a buckle bomb and then the screwdriver to pick up the win, New GOTG Champ: Cage!

Cage gets on the mic immediately and calls out Matanza for his title match next week!
Well, at least he didn’t rip this title in two.

In the LU Locker room, Taya is leading two guys around and telling them that they’re going to love Johnny’s big surprise.

It turns out the two guys are Jack Evans and PJ Black and the surprise is an unconscious Fenix. Mundo makes his presence known and informs them that he’s their new partner.

I don't need to say any more on this segment except, AIR GUITARS!!!!

Into Dario’s office, where Dario isn’t….

Joey is rifling through Dario’s desk and tells Cortez that this is his chance since Dario and his hot ninja aren’t here.
Cortez decides he might as well help look for evidence against Dario since it's already happening (Surely this wouldn’t be admissible evidence?).

Joey finds a drawer full of cash, clear evidence that Dario is… a successful businessman?
Cortez points out that it doesn’t prove anything, and Joey says it proves that he's getting a bonus and just takes a wad. It’s not quite clear, but I suspect that one of these two will turn out to not be a very good cop.

The lights in the office get switched on and the two intruders are caught by… Cisco. Unsurprisingly, he doesn’t buy the lost contact lens story. He’s pissed that they’re robbing El Jefe and didn’t invite him. He’s so mad that he’s going to go tell Dario.

Joey pulls out his gun! (That’s not a euphemism, it was his actual gun), Cortez restrains Cisco and is forced to arrest Mr Cisco Francisco Garza. Cicso looks upset and it’s probably not about him getting arrested (for what?) but because of who is doing it.

That… could have gone better for them. Either Cisco has to vanish now, or Cortez and Joey will be made to disappear.

Trios Championship: Jack Evans, PJ Black, & Johnny Mundo w/Taya vs Rey Mysterio, Prince Puma, & El Dragon Azteca Jr

This could be a very flippy match.

Evans has gone from somebody who was just another name to me before LU to somebody I really enjoy.



Ooh, Evans came off the top to break up a pin but it looked awkward, like he might have slipped and then he was trying to not put weight on his leg when he was thrown out.

Puma throws Dragon onto Mundo for the DDT, but Mundo blocks it and uses Dragon as a weapon of his own.



Rey ends up on Mundo’s shoulders, they fall over the top to the outside and Rey remains up on Mundo’s shoulders somehow.

Top rope hurricanrana from Evans on Puma into a Puma rana on Black in the ring. Not quite as smooth as they probably wanted, but still very nice.

I realise that I’ve not said anything about the actual quality of the matches tonight, so I’ll do it now: Yeah, they were good.

The 619/630 combo looks like it was going to get the win for the champs, but Mundo pulled the ref out before he hit three. While the ref is down, the heels start some serious cheating. Low blow and Taya interference against Rey outside, Poke to the eyes and a low blow for Puma from Black inside.

And just to complete the set:



The Dragon eggs get scrambled despite the attempted super jump avoiding action. And Taya is enjoying it.

Puma takes some double team moves, another low blow and the End of the World, but it is still not enough for the three when a new ref makes it to the ring.

Puma backflips out of a top rope German suplex and makes the tag to Dragon. It only takes a few seconds of seeing what Dragon is doing before Taya tries getting in the ring with a chair. Turns out she was just distracting the ref so that Evans could sneak in with another chair to break up the pin.

Rey gets cut off and can not make the save, therefore: New Trios Champs: Johnny Mundo, Jack Evans, & PJ Black!

Whoo. Great match, I was back and forth on who was going to win it.

We end the show with The new champs celebrating (yes, a belt was played as a guitar)

- Who could have guessed Famous B would end up at this point where he's getting great reactions based on how he was used when he first showed up?
- No Dario this time. Understandable though since even Joey wouldn’t be stupid enough to search his office if he was anywhere about. Or would he?
- The undercover angle is moving along, starting to have serious consequences. Be interesting to see how the Cisco situation is handled or if he does actually just disappear.

Voodoo Glow Skulls are awful. I formed this opinion based on the fact that they appear on 5 out of 10 of the Punk-O-Rama compilation albums, and don't have one decent song in the bunch. It was kind of cool seeing a band I'd heard of in Lucha Underground, though.

Jack Evans is literally a video game character but it is not because of his rag doll selling of everything but that he takes every single chance to taunt as much as possible to use his super meter.

And gawd damn Johnny take it easy on Marty yanking him out of the ring the man like he bumped on his face ouch.

That Puma kick out after all the low blows and the end of the world had me biting on that one thinking it was it great false finish.

Johnny and Crew (Not them) taking dick kick city literally but if you gonna cheat do it as much as possible it is the Johnny Mundo way.

Striker taking the 423 phone call was an amazing little touch that furthers B's gimmick as both desperate and advantageous to make anyone famous and is just another to the list of amazing little things LU pays attention to and does to further a story or character and Striker and Vamp playing it completely straight makes it all the better.

Joey going so far as to hit a tornado DDT on mascarita will never not be one of the more ridiculous things ever lol.

That Taya vingette was so well done because the hall of mirrors is fits in with exactly who not only who she is but who Johnny sees as well...themselves no imperfections , no flaws and I love how this is set at a Lucha prom really fits in with Taya and Johnny feeling like young immature highschool love but these two being the most priveleged and flaunting it in everyones face and the really nice touch is they had Taya driving the car when they drove off.

And the Lucha prom is just another little part to expanding this world that to repeat myself that nothing in wrestling could replicate without literally trying to be LU because look how much this world has expanded just through vingettes this season....the afformentioned Lucha prom , the mental institution to open the season , the police precinct , Martys home etc , it is an amazingly ever expanding world that feels so much more alive than pretty much any other wrestling show.

And speaking of cabins....WE GET CASUAL CUERNO! seriously I want that shirt and how cool is Cuerno just in general from his cadence when he speaks to just the things he says dude is legit...Santos Escobar might be cool but he will never be Cuerno cool. Him propping up Mil's corpse as a trophy display is juat added amazement and the detail that Cuerno stitched up his mask (instead of just doing the lazy thing and giving him suddenly a fresh mask because the audience would not care) is such a perfect attention to detail and story and more credit to the creative heads in LU they just get how important these small details are because if informs the audience the people creating this show care.

The Pentagon and Vamp is a great little furthering of the pairing but showing you the cracks are really starting to open up with Pentagon becoming just a little disobedient.

Cage Vs Chavo was a fine match nothing really much to say about it other than Chavo getting his ass handed to him is always satisfying.

But next episode is another super over looked match and argueably is both Cages best and most underrated match in LU.

Poor Mr Cisco he just wanted to rob Dario with his buddy and how bad does it make officer Reyes look that Joey took the initiative (albeit for obvious selfish reasons) to actually do police work and was the only one to bring his gun and badge with him lol Cortez forever living up his goon status.

And I look forward to that Voodoo Glow Skull mascot haunting Gecko for the remainder of their stay lol bug eyes an all lol

I have the rest of season two downloaded, and my computer is limping along nicely with only minor issues, so we should be good far at least the rest of this season.

S02E19 – Judgement Day

Last time
- More Penta preparation

- Cage beats Chavo to claim the GOTG, announces he’s cashing it in

- Mundo forcibly replaces Fenix to team with PJ Black and Jack Evans. They win the Trios titles.

Into the Temple where the nightmare-inducing, bug-eyed monstrosity is still hanging around behind the Voodo Glow Skulls.

Striker runs down what we’ve got going on tonight. As well as the already known Cage vs Matanza match, Rey, Dragon Azteca, and Puma are getting a rematch for the trios titles.

Son of Havoc vs Daga

Yep, I said the other week that it might be that Team Havoc are going to go their separate ways for now and it looks like it’s happening since Havoc is out here by himself.

Daga’s look is very plain. There’s nothing that makes him stand out just from looking at him.

Havoc still coming up with fun stuff



Daga ducked out the way of the kick, so Havoc swung himself back into the ring and took another shot at it, which connected.

Daga tells the ref to count faster and Striker comments that we’re finally seeing a bit of personality from him.

“You can get knocked down seven times, as long as you get up eight.” Is it me or does that not work out? Unless of course, you start on the floor.

You might be able to tell at this point that I’ve not got a whole lot to say about this match.

Oh, here’s something of interest:



Kobra Moon… with a snakeskin jacket. Well doesn’t that just scream cannibalistic serial killer? (to be fair, some snakes are cannibals). Well, that and the insane smile.

Kobra is just cheering on Daga, she hasn’t played any part in the match... yet. She might get jealous of the guy that Daga ended up sitting on in the front row though.

When they’re back in the ring, she finally makes a move as Havoc goes up top. She grabs his leg, doesn’t even care that the ref is right there, and even though she’s kicked off pretty quick, it’s enough for Daga to take advantage. Kind of.

Things go back to how they were before the interference as Havoc blocks a superplex attempt and hits the shooting star press for the win.



What a great shot, the camera followed him all the way down.

Kobra Moon slithers in to the ring to console Daga. She coils herself around him and he still wants no part of it. He grabs her by the hair and also pushes her and finally manages to separate himself. Kobra does not look put off by the obvious rejection at all.

Into the Lucha gym where we find Rey beating up a defenceless bag.

He’s interrupted by Dragon Azteca who doesn’t bother greeting him, he just goes straight to the fact that he’s found the cell where Dario keeps Matanza. He’s tired of waiting and he’s going to destroy the monster, himself.
A disagreement occurs as Rey thinks Dragon should not be focused on getting revenge and instead be thinking about getting the Trios titles back. Dragon’s side is that Rey hadn’t spoken to Dragon Snr in years and wouldn’t know what he wanted.

It doesn’t quite get physical between them, partly due to the appearance of Puma. There’s also tension between Rey and Puma as Rey tells him to get out since the thing between him and Dragon doesn’t concern Puma. Puma, who has now taken up growling, says it does concern him since they are his partners and they’ve got a match to get to.

So, the Rey/Dragon thing is the light side version of the Penta/Vampiro thing. Very similar master/pupil set up and they’ve got the same target. All it’s missing is a third person on the dark side to play the part of Puma.

Trios Championship: El Dragon Azteca Jr, Prince Puma, Rey Mysterio Jr vs PJ Black, Jack Evans, Johnny Mundo(c) w/Taya



Thought they were wearing fez’s at first.

The ref is unappreciative of his gift from Black of his sunglasses.

This one starts off as fast as you would expect. It slows down when Rey gets hit with a low blow when the ref is distracted.

Mundo and Evans are just wrestling while wearing their sunglasses. This team’s already got a new feeling about it, full of fun and energy.

Rey finally gets the tag out to Puma and shortly after we move into the part of the match where everybody gets to show off their jumping abilities. Jack builds up his turn a little as he tells us we’re about to see the greatest thing we’ve ever seen in our lives…



Yeah, that was pretty good.

Puma throws Jack back in the ring and tries for the 630. Mundo and Black pull him out of the way and then tell him to go up top himself. Jack Evans hits a 630 of his own! I was not expecting that; it’s one thing to steal your opponent’s move, it’s another thing when that is the move that you’re stealing.
Puma does manage to kick out.

Taya up on the apron and being distracting gives Mundo the chance for the signature move of this team: a low blow. While Dragon is writhing on the ground, Puma and Rey are shouting at the ref. Puma actually gets in the ring to confront Mundo, but it appears that he cools down enough to head back to the apron. Before he gets out the ring, Mundo antagonises him some more, so Puma turns round and kicks him low right in front of the ref.

DQ win for the champs!
Puma has gone from a peacemaker to adding a third side to this team’s issues.

Lots going on after the match, everybody is in the ring shouting. Mundo is back on his feet and gloating to Puma about the win. Puma tries a superkick but smacks Taya in the face instead!

The champs leave victorious as Rey tries to calm down Puma unsuccessfully and he ends up walking away on his own.

El Dragon Azteca ignored Rey’s advice and has gone to see Matanza.

Before he gets a chance to do anything, he is halted by Black Lotus, who is apparently on guard for Matanza this week instead of Dario.

He asks why she’s protecting the one who killed her parents. Her answer is that he didn’t kill her parents, Dragon Azteca did.
Dragon refuses to believe her and tries to hit her. She… easily restrains him and holds him as he looks at Matanza while she tells him that ‘sometimes the truth hurts!”, and throws him away.

Dragon retreats with a last comment of, ‘you know it’s not true.’

She better hope that she picked the right truth to believe otherwise she killed a guy for nothing, on top of helping out somebody who definitely has killed (and maybe eaten) several people... and her parents, of course.

Lucha Underground Championship: Cage vs ‘The Monster’ Matanza Cueto (c) w/Dario Cueto

Time for Cage to exchange his Gift of the Gods for a title match.

I was wondering a little if Dario would be here, since he’s not been around a whole lot recently.



Going by his wrist tape, Matanza had a pre-match snack just before he came out.

Starting off with traditional big man strength stuff, punches and shoulder blocks. This isn’t helping either of them gain an advantage, so Cage busts out the lucha moves! Wheelbarrow into an armdrag, headscissors to send Matanza outside and then a flip over the top! Wow!

I love when you get something completely unexpected like this. It’s similar to when Big Show and Kane just started chain-wrestling out of nowhere.

Matanza is down and is in a bit of trouble.

Moonsault from the top to the outside! There’s going to be too many things to gif here, just go watch it yourself. Still on the outside, Cage gets Matanza up with ease for a powerbomb into the barriers. The Machine then pulls up some of the ringside mats as Dario looks on with concern.

Matanza gets back into it by banging the back of Cage’s head on the metal barrier repeatedly. He follows up with a bunch of gutwrench suplexes and finishes with a German.

We get back in the ring (after Dario orders Matanza to do so), things don’t get more pleasant for Cage as Matanza starts choking him before just pummelling him.

This match is maintaining a much quicker pace than I thought it might. I was thinking that while it might start fast, it’d soon slow down, but they’ve kept things going along pretty swiftly.

Things do eventually slow down a bit. After several double clotheslines, they are both kicked while kicking the other.

10 Slightly nasty looking German by Cage
20 Matanza is back on his feet instantly
30 Matanza hits a German Suplex
40 Cage is back on his (probably vein-covered) feet

50 goto 10

A few more rounds of that and they both end up on the mat, exhausted.

They both start going for the big hits now, Cage is first to land one with a discus clothesline. It only gets a two. He keeps the momentum with the suplex while on the ropes and a pretty nice elbow:



Still not enough!

I don’t think Cage is winning here, but he’s making me believe that he might.

OOH! Cage countered a powerslam into an inside cradle and I suddenly changed my mind about him not winning for those few seconds. They got me good with that one.

The Machine performs a kick combo, takes time to bask in the appreciation of the crowd and that is his downfall. He gets caught in the Wrath of the Gods and that is enough for Matanza to retain his title.

Well, what a pleasant surprise that was. Much, much better than I was expecting. They had all the parts there for a good big man match, but then threw in a bunch of unexpected Lucha stuff and had it make sense for the match. Cage couldn’t just overpower his opponent like usual, so he brings out a load of new stuff that neither Matanza nor Dario could have predicted or prepared a counter for.

We end with Matanza and Dario showing the Temple their victorious champion.

- It’s good that Daga has the Kobra Moon thing going on, it's the most interesting thing about him so far.
- Interesting to see who’s up next for Matanza. They’ve got a few options for people who want revenge, or they could go with somebody new if they’re not ready for any of them yet. I guess that’s what we’re finding out next time.
- Late, late addition: Oh, Judgement Day. As in Terminator 2: Judgement Day, because Cage is a machine.
