My computer is 7-8 years old, and I plan on buying a new one.
What should I look for if I just plan on browsing the internet? What's the price for a good computer?
I'm looking at buying, not building, and I would like a desktop.
I know I don't want a laptop, because I had a laptop, and it stopped working after a few years because it overheated because I was on it all the time.
I like to watch stuff on YouTube and streaming services.
I don't play games on my PC much, and the games I have aren't that demanding (TF2, CS: GO, etc)

I actually just purchased a new Macbook 2 weeks ago for my Bday
To say i'm more than happy with this is an understatement. I had MacBook Pro 2012 and that shit was getting way slow. I got the MacBook Air 2020 and this shit is super fast. Like upgrading from PS4 to PS5. It has no fun so it doesn't get hot and I have had no problems with it since I been on it a lot and using it for work

I know I said I didn't want a laptop, but would a modern laptop be better than my 7-8 year old computer?
I mean, it would be better than nothing, right?

I have a MacBook from - I wanna say - 2014ish.
I use it for work now since I’m working from home full-time now, but I originally bought it strictly for word processing and internet browsing.
It wasn’t cheap, but since I’ve had it, I haven’t had a single issue with it. Still very fast and reliable.
An iMac would be more expensive than a MacBook, but the quality is the same and if you’d prefer a desktop to a laptop, that’s the way to go.

Just for browsing the internet? Well if that's all you wanna do then I suppose you could get yourself a chromebook. Which are budget laptops powered with the ChromeOS. Think of those netbooks that were popular 10 years ago that have since been replaced with Tablets and smartphones.
If it's a windows device your looking for and you have the cash, I'd probably look into the Dell XPS range. They've been getting good reviews.

Seems like total overkill for what you needed, but that’s a damn good computer for that price. You should have no problems getting 8-10 years out of that

Should be ok for what you want, don't know how well the on board graphics will cope with CS Go though.

I bought a new computer yesterday, but my computer's actually doing well right now, so I'm having second thoughts.
But lots of people buy new phones or computers they don't really need, right?

I bought a new computer yesterday, but my computer's actually doing well right now, so I'm having second thoughts. But lots of people buy new phones or computers they don't really need, right? I built a gaming pc with an i7-6700k and 980ti in 2016-2017 when they were top of the line and bought a 32 inch 1440p screen to go with it, and all I did was run some benchmarks and play about a half hour of the original Witcher from 2009. Turns out I enjoy building a PC wayyy more than I enjoy gaming on one. I'm a console guy. So yes, people do buy things they don't need all the time. At least my wife is using the monitor for work stuff now.

I figured, "is it really worth it to put in a new hard drive or an SSD in a 7-8 year old computer?".
