FWIW
In 2020 AEW averaged 808,000 in viewers and .29 in 18 to 49. That said since they've had wrestling without or limited crowd the average viewership dropped to 792,000 in 2020. Both numbers include 4 weeks when AEW didn't go head to head with NXT. If you take away those four weeks ratings. AEW averaged 775,000 viewers when going head to head vs NXT in Pandemic era wrestling.
So far in 2021 AEW is averaging 775,000 in viewership and .30 in 18 to 49. While overall viewership average is down 33,000 and down 17,000 for pandemic era wrestling Dynamites. That said these numbers are still on going. Few 800,000 or 900,000 viewed shows boost number right up to last year average. I know everyone wants AEW ratings number to grow.
But I'm not sure it's possible with these networks losing so many viewers year to year. Keep in mind TNT as a network lost 14 percent in viewers from 2018 to 2019 and another 12 percent from 2019 to 2020 and those numbers include dvr+7.
I know these old farts who have no clue how modern ratings are going. Talk about lack of growth in ratings for AEW and not gaining new viewers. But t.v. is much different today and it's much much much tougher for a show to actually gain audience. So at this point whatever 100,000 to 300,000 growth AEW gets from NXT moving. Should be enough and they just need to stay steady. Since if TNT down another 10 plus percent from last year and AEW ratings end up going up. It will be a positive for them.

I'm just wondering how you manage to lose viewers in Q5 when it typically rises from people looking for something to watch as shows end.

I'm just wondering how you manage to lose viewers in Q5 when it typically rises from people looking for something to watch as shows end. True but how people decide what to watch next is different these days. 10 to 20 years ago people would actually flip through top network channels. So if you had people who didn't watch wrestling. You put on a channel on and see some hot angle with NWO or Stone Cold or Rock. Or even something 10 years ago with Cena, Taker, Triple H, Punk etc. Which some non wrestling fan or person who might have watched it at some point. Would stay watching it and you could maybe gain viewers. These days not only do far less people have these cable channels(and there's many more channels to pick from). While the people who have it's very customized. With people having dvr or on-demand to find programming to watch next(that they might have missed). People also pick and choose what to watch next off listing guide that tells people what's on what channel. So they scroll down a guide and pick what they want to watch. If they don't watch wrestling or haven't in a long time. They are likely to pick something else to watch instead without putting on TNT and even giving AEW a shot. So in 2021 it's very hard to gain new viewers. You need to create a buzz on social media, tv news shows or cross promote and convince people to try your product. That is why TNT no longer wants surprise appearances on Dynamite and wants the guys announced ahead of time.

Too bad, just finished this week's show and it was really, really good.
Still, could be a result of the show the week before feeling kind of uneven and this week's card not immediately popping on paper for some people; positive word of mouth from this week should be a help for them.
Even so, numbers are a bit down of late, but it's certainly not a reason to get upset or overly worried.

“I believe they will make changes if they do not regain the women’s audience — I know they will because the idea right now is to regain that audience, but that has nothing to do with NXT not being there.”

Tony Khan if you're reading this I think as a woman what woman want is Krysten Ritter to stand by the stage having a smoke throughout the whole show

If it really has been the blood aspect then I assume they'll dial it back soon. Dax's blood job was accidental anyway.

Yeah, clearly putting the women in Teddy Long Smackdown tag matches ain't it, and the QT angle got negative interest despite his doing well before (possibly he was carried by Dustin in a ratings sense - Dustin is weirdly and enduringly popular). And once again NXT Women division beats AEWs, if we use the data as proof, people care more about Io than Shida. This isn't a fair comparison because let's face facts AEW's Women are typically booked in a middle point of the show throw-away segment (two if they are very lucky) as an afterthought. Overall, the Women's Division is the weak point of this company and, sadly, always has been.

AEW had a women's division that was a wasteland for half a year and is now starting to fill out its depth and find itself, NXT's Women have been the top draw of te company for over a year with some of the highest end talent in wrestling So yeah, it's unfair to compare, maybe in a year if AEW keeps up the momentum this year has set, it will be a bit fairer
