Both were just put up on HBO Max and it kind of got me comparing them in my head. I saw both in theaters and kind of have no idea which I prefer because I hated both of them and for pretty similar reasons.
In particular I'm kind of split on the subject of Green Lantern having a more unlikable protagonist but also actually having a climax (albeit a terrible one) instead of just the hero consistently winning a series of staring contests.

Even with a buddy playing Snooty Waiter #2 in Green Lantern I still had to vote for Ghost Rider.

Nic Cage as Ghost Rider can at least be unintentionally funny.

Funny story, I saw Ghost Rider, the Reno 911 movie (never liked the show but I needed to fill a hole in scheduling the other two), and The Number 23 all back-to-back. You know it's a profoundly shitty day at the movies when the best part of your triple feature is The Number 23 of all things.

Green Lantern doesn't have Nicolas Cage & Sam Elliott riding into battle to "Ghost Riders in the sky"
Nor does it have Peter Fonda as Mephisto
Advantage: Ghost Rider

Green Lantern doesn't have Nicolas Cage & Sam Elliott riding into battle to "Ghost Riders in the sky" I'm still so confused by that part. "I only have one use of this power left in me... so I'm going to use it on giving you a cool escort on the way to the final battle instead of using it in the battle itself."

"I only have one use of this power left in me... so I'm going to use it on giving you a cool escort on the way to the final battle instead of using it in the battle itself." Without using his power he never could have made it to the battle in time. So it was wasted either way. At least that way he could make sure Johnny didn't get lost or ambushed on the way.

Half of the Ghost Rider shots were heavy metal albums, so that. Buut Green Lantern had Christoph waltz so *shrug*

Ghost Rider easily... my biggest complaint with Ghost Rider is what they did to Blackheart...
where my biggest complaint with Green Lantern is it's 3 movies and literally nothing comes off as important because nothing has time to be important.

Expectations were higher for Green Lantern, WB were slap bang in the middle of the widely praised Nolan run on Batman and they were looking to launch their next major franchise. It would have made sense for WB/DC to bring their A-game, instead we got a reheated pitch for a Jack Black comedy with one of the comic's biggest villains turned into a snot monster.
With Ghost Rider, I'm not sure anyone expected it to be great, Marvel movies had been a mixed bag, much like the work of Cage himself. He wasn't a great choice for a lead, but he was going to ham it up and make the best of it.

My favorite bit of trivia is that in order to play the role of Ghost Rider, Nicolas Cage had to wear makeup covering a tattoo OF Ghost Rider!

Any love for Ghost Rider Spirit Of Vengeance? From the makers of CRANK and CRANK 2: HIGH VOLTAGE! Ridiculous fun! Hey, I'll always defend Spirit of Vengeance. I think it's the last comic book movie that was its own thing, not inspired or in some way influenced by the MCU formula.
