So did anybody else hear about this?
Apparently a long thought lost thirty year old Soviet TV movie adaptation of Lord of the Rings has been found and posted to YouTube. It is incredibly surreal and has the production values of an episode of HR Pufnstuf.

I'm guessing this is the same "quality" as the Soviet Hobbit adaptation from the 70s?

A pity that it looks as cheap as it does.
Mostly because given what Russo-Finnish studios were capable of doing with fairy tale / fantasy material (The Day The Earth Froze, The Magic Voyage Of Sinbad, The Sword And The Dragon, Jack Frost etc.), those studios could have made a decent Lord Of The Rings adaptation for the time being.
Though I guess that's the difference between doing something for TV and doing something for a theatrical release.

I love the bit where the fellowship sings "The Internationale" before setting off on the quest.

Have ya'll seen that Russian Lord of the Rings video game where Frodo wears a Tshirt that says "F#$# YOU" on it?
I'm not joking, at all.
Russian ANYTHING Lord of the Rings is a gold mine.

So if anybody is interested, YouTube is now offering English sub-titles for the videos.
