They should take “Abrams” out of the headlines to drum up some positive interest

This announcement feels like one of those " A movie is coming out in 2023, we have no story, actors or ideas. But dammit get hyped!"

Given the development hell all Trek film projects have been in since Beyond's release, I'll believe it when I see it.

I'll believe it when I see it alongside the movie that reunites Chris Hemsworth and Chris Pine's Kirks and Quentin Tarantino's Star f***ing Trek.

Given the development hell all Trek film projects have been in since Beyond's release, I'll believe it when I see it. Still disappoints me how Beyond was the final film there; I thought it was great. Maybe Star Trek Into Darkness sullied the reboot films for people (can't really blame them), but I dunno, Beyond was good.

Beyond was excellent, not only finally gave Pine decent material to work with but also really playing to Trek's strengths in terms of story. The problem was timing and marketing. Basically the gap between 09 and Into Darkness cost the franchise a lot of momentum and by the time Beyond came out, it was in the midst of both a revival of Star Wars and the MCU in full swing. A ST film with some action in it had far less novelty than it did 7 years before, and the casual audience (which was never consistently there for Trek films anyway) wasn't interested. To make matters worse the dubious execution of Into Darkness and the lousy marketing of Beyond (which Simon Pegg himself derided later) turned off much of the hardcore fans, many of them convinced it would be yet another schlocky set piece. By the time many of watched Beyond via home release and realized it was a solid movie, it was too late and Trek on film is likely seen as two risky by execs still chasing Marvel money.

I like Beyond too. The only thing that annoyed me about it, quite a bit too, was the ending with the 500000000 things flying around everywhere crap and shallow "epicness" that is done to death these days.

They should take “Abrams” out of the headlines to drum up some positive interest I can already picture it now: Kirk: Somehow... Khan has returned. Spock: Dark science. Cloning. Secrets only the Klingon's knew. Bones: Khan didn't die you stupid assholes. Kirk: Zip it Bones, we are sticking with this story so matter how much it stinks. Spock: It's only logical. Bones: I hate you guys.

Paramount provably decided that the world didn't need Spock calling somebody the n-word and he moved on.

Dusting this off because, according to Deadline, this thing might actually have a director; WandaVision’s Mark Shakman

Will believe it's happening when we have set photos or something. Though really in general I feel like the Star Trek IP is pretty horrifically overexposed right now.

No surprise. Lost its director to Fantastic Four and there's still no script.

So we went from "Star Trek 4 looking for Next Gen Reboot actors" to "Star Trek 4 stuck in development hell" real quickly.
