The main event did have a very basic story - Edge is an idiot. Time and again he was more focused on taking Bryan out first. The finish came because he had both down and went to KO Bryan first, giving Reigns an unsurpassable route to the win. Reigns opponents tend to be distracted from the killer blow - Jey from love of his brother, Owens because hes easily distracted by interference, Bryan because Edge is focused more on him than the champ, Edge because hes not focused enough.
But at some point soon the opponent who remains 100% focused on Reigns turns up, and that's when his reign is screwed.

That’s just generally how wrestling storylines traditionally play out. Heels give a good fight, but they ultimately have to lose in the end. You run with the heels continually winning with no hope for the faces, you end up with a situation like The Authority, who never really suffered a true setback. Traditionally? Sure. In 2021, what % of the audience is completely devoted to wanting to see the heels lose and the faces win? The idea that this is Misery Mania, but that includes a decent chunk of matches where the person people wanted to win, won (Lashley, Rhea Ripley, not-Tamina, Sheamus, Roman). Who's miserable about it? I’d say the majority wanted Asuka to retain.

I don't know how much longer Asuka will be wrestling since she's turning 40 this year.

Hey, doesn't Big E have, like, 2 best mates in wrestling who know Jey Uso inside and out too? Food for thought.

I wanna see a pre-title match angle where Reigns’s challenger finds Jey alone and just whoops his ass.
